Dear MSC members,
I am a member of PASADENA 100, a coalition of community organizations devoted to 100% carbon-jfree energy in Pasadena by 2030. With reference to agenda item 2, we ask that the MS C recognize that the relationship of distribution solar energy generation (DER) to utility scale generation is widely disputed. There are different points of view about how to calculate DER's actual cost and benefits and currently this topic is the subject of a nationwide debate. The PWP memo represents only one point of view.
In fact, many experts see DER as an essential part of any serious strategy to arrive at 100% carbon- free energy. The League of Women Voters offered a webinar that partially addresses this subject last month where we heard from Sacramento Municipal Utility, LADWP and PWP. SMUD and LADWP strategies include strong DER components. All City Council members were invited. A video is available here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=30eFJMlxIaY We offer to provide resources on DER and its costs and benefits as part of an overall strategy for 100% carbon-free energy for Pasadena. We only had 3-days notice of this presentation because we saw it on the MSC agenda, but will be able to provide a response by the next MSC.
