For the past 9 years I have been running my own afterschool and summer camp with predominantly African American and Hispanic kids and teens. I have invested in the lives of all my families to advocate in all areas that their voices be amplified and heard.

Being an executive member of the NAACP Pasadena has given me a wealth of knowledge of our black and brown community and how we can empower and be an asset where needed in the community. I am on the Finance, Ruby McKnight Williams committee and Co- Chair of our Business Stimulus Fund and Social Media.

As a Co-Chair and POP (Pasadena Organizing Progress) Board member I have learnt many sides of our politica asadena landscape and being on a team of people who value the equity and justice of everyone in our cit especially those voices that are predominantly sidelined and silenced. 28 of 47
I have invested in relationships with our Pasadena Police Chief and command staff to engage in conversations that are uncomfortable but necessary for both the community and police though series of community dialogues. and thrive for one another.

My scope of work and organizing is with diversity of families, community members and my kids every day and all the challenges it brings and the joy of solutions through listening and communicating.

11. How would you add value to the Community Police Oversight Commission? Being on the commission this past year I have learnt how important the community aspect and voice of the NAACP seat that I am in is very important. The value of a different lenses from this seat of creating safe spaces for the community to be heard and engaged.

So my hope of bringing value of being a bridge builder and understanding that different points of views are not wrong but the solution is in the intentionality of the dialogue, here we may find the solution if we respect and keep communicating will still be the way forward.

12. What do you see as the objectives and goals of the Community Police Oversight Commission? 1: I think the work plan that we have started is a major foundation to the work we will build on. Being on the various Ad Hoc committees for the following:

Training for the commission the Police Department
Resources for victims and the cost of Trauma
Mental Health Best practices and Wellness Review
Independent Police Auditor Interviews (Goal achieved)
Plus the other Ad Hoc committees work will be valuable to benchmark goals that we have set as the work will never end but the progress will be seen in our recommendations and training that occur, proving that we are meeting our objectives and goals in a timely manner and being incorporated into the culture and language of ou 2: Bringing a diverse group of people to the table to learn the policies and procedures to enable us to articulate clearly all processes, issues and complaints that arise speak with clarity to all in our community. 3: Learn through curriculums and live trainings what we do not know of police life, culture and story. With community history, racial and cultural history that have brought bias on both sides 4: Policies that have intrenched the police system to date and to learn how the voices of the community can now have a process in the accountability and as much transparency as the law allows in police misconduct. 5: Start to put together a structure for complaints and critical incidents that allows all the above to be seen and understood in real time for full community understanding and legal process and policy to be followed through. 6: Have an Independent Auditor to walk alongside the commission to advocate for the truth and process to be followed and bring all the above pieces together as a teg of 4 not us against the police but an accountability process that is just and fair on both sides of the fence until we do not need a fence and can all sit at a table and wrestle through challenges
A main goal is to bring the respect, trust and as much as possible erase the mis communication that has hindered understanding

13. How would you help achieve these objectives and goals? As stated above by staying consistent with our work plan working and learning from our IPA and understanding that when the next critical incident happens we are able to work as a team and show full transparency to the community and articulate our next steps clearly and work with all we are learning with our Police Department that recommendations and policies are working well into the culture and training.

By bringing all my experiences, community and cultural engagement to the table to learn and learn some more with the tools we are provided and if required get more tools so that we are fully equipped not to fail but to succeed not for the first police oversight commission in Pasadena but for every resident and traveler in our community.

10. Describe your relevant life experience, professional training, and/or education in the following areas: Police Activity/Law Enforcement/Criminal Justice System; Social Justice; Mental Health; and Anti-Bias Curriculum/Studies and/or Working with Diverse Populations:

I currently serve on the Pasadena Community Police Oversight Commission and serve as Vice Chair for our inaugural year.

I also currently work at Planned Parenthood Pasadena & San Gabriel Valley, a local health care provider which serves underserved community members.

When I started my career in the non-profit sector more than 19 years ago at the National Conference for Community and Justice (NCCJ), I was grounded in a philosophy and methodology focused on fighting racism, bigotry and bias through education, training and conflict resolution. Throughout my career, it has been incredibly important to weave my knowledge and experience in anti-bias education and training into all aspects of my social justice advocacy. While at All Saints Church, I had the opportunity to center my multiculturalism education through VISIONS, Inc.

In the more than eleven years that I have been working within the Pasadena community, I have been very active with a variety of local social justice efforts such as: campaigning to increase the minimum wage; supporting efforts to protect undocumented immigrants; joining initiatives to garner more affordable housing in the city; fighting for an increase to access to free and affordable healthcare; working to educate the public on gun safety and gun violence prevention; and advocating for the needs of the unhoused in our community, just to name a few.

In 2013, I began my journey in understanding the challenges of law enforcement and its relationship to the people they are entrusted to protect and serve. I have met with many residents of Pasadena over the years, listened to the stories of those who had negative encounters with our police department. I have also met with Pasadena police officers and learned about their experiences out in the field. I have been privileged to attend many workshops and conferences on policing and police/community oversight provided by organizations such as the ACLU, LMU Law School, and the National Association for Civilian Oversight in Law Enforcement (NACOLE). I am also an avid reader of books, news articles, and essays on the issues of policing and community/police relations. All of these experiences has positively impacted my participation in the Coalition for Increased Civilian Oversight of Pasadena Police (CICOPP), as well as my membership on the Pasadena Police Chief's Advisory Committee.

Having earned an undergraduate degree in Psychology, I have a particular interest in mental health. I was proud to have served on the Pasadena Mental Health Advisory Committee, and then to have served on the board of our local Chapter of NAMI. I have extensive knowledge of our local mental health service providers. Additionally, I have received training in trauma informed care.

Finally, I have a deep passion and commitment for improving the lives of our community members and for making our neighborhoods more safe and healthy for all, not just some. I have dedicated my entire career to social change movements and given twenty years of my time and skills to fighting just causes, always working with and for diverse populations. I see the movement of our time as the fight for racial justice and racial equity, acknowledging how white supremacy impacts all areas of our social lives and government operations - from the economy, education, housing, public safety and law enforcement.

11. How would you add value to the Community Police Oversight Commission? I would like to continue my service on the Commission because I have the ability to work well with others and work across differences. I understand that as we work together, there will be times when we have disagreements and that we can work through them to achieve common ground and greater understanding. I can help bridge the divide that exists in our community as it relates to perceptions and opinions of the police department because I am willing to have uncomfortable conversations, hold tensions, and work through the challenges to find ways to create mutual respect and appreciation. I am not afraid to speak truth to power and will always remain committed to pushing each of us in positions of public trust to do better by our community.

I will continue to add value to the Commission because I understand that Black, Indigenous, Persons of Color have experienced the brunt of police brutality and abuse in our nation and that there are unfortunate stories of this in our own city that must be redressed. This is not just a matter of history - we have current concerns that harken our attention.

I will continue to add value to the Commission because I have a demonstrated history of working on police reform in Pasadena. I am constantly trying to make our police department better while also aiming to improve our police/community relations. I am devoted to the efforts to ensure that our law enforcement officials never again unjustly abuse or kill Black and Brown community members.

I will continue add value to the Commission because I am Latina, first generation American, and fluent in Spanish. I understand the unique experience of growing up in an immigrant family and maintaining my Colombian culture and traditions while incorporating American culture. I have lived experiences with being a member of marginalized communities and I know how to navigate communicating and working in these communities, as well as with communities with power.

12. What do you see as the objectives and goals of the Community Police Oversight Commission? The goal of Community Police Oversight Commission is to work with the public, City officials, and Independent Police Auditor to increase mutual trust and respect between the police department and community through transparency and accountability. With the oversight provided by the Commission, the Pasadena Police Department will become a more fair, just and valued community partner in serving our residents and guests, and a model of 21 century leadership to other law enforcement agencies across the nation.

13. How would you help achieve these objectives and goals? I will help the Commission achieve the goals and objectives by dedicating my time and skills to the work ahead. I will whole-heartedly show up for the work not only when we have meetings, but every day. I will remain committed to expanding my knowledge policing matters, listening to the community, and effectively communicating with PPD officials.

I will help the Commission create a strategic plan of action that allows it to undertake actions that are feasible and impactful.
