MEMORANDUM
TO: Pasadena City Council Public Safety Committee
FROM: Chair, Raúl Ibáñez; Community Police Oversight Commission RE: Recommendation to Public Safety Committee; Appointment of Community Based Seats of Community Police Oversight Commission
DATE: 06/08/2022
On behalf of the Community Police Oversight Commission, I, Chair, Raúl Ibáñez recommend that the Pasadena City Council Public Safety Committee reappoint all Community Based Organization Commissioners to a second term. All commissioners feel that our current Community Based Organization Commissioners are invaluable contributors to our body, our current work, and losing them now would be a terrible blow to the Commission.

Please let us know if you have any questions.

Thank you,
Chair Raúl Ibañez
Community Police Oversight Commission

Dear Public Safety Committee Members:

My name is Tina Williams, I applied for the Community Police Oversight Commission's nonprofit representative position. After speaking with a friend about the Commission and was informed that all three of the former nonprofit representatives were reapplying for their previously held positions. I was under the impression that they had to take a one-year leave before they could reapply.

All three representatives are highly qualified, and I believe they will do an excellent job representing the nonprofit community; therefore I withdraw my application for consideration.

Hello Everyone,
I am sorry I could not Zoom in to be with you for the Police Commission Interview, but I am down in Orange County taking my mom to a doctors appointment.

Am guessing the two questions you might have are:

Why do you want to be on the commission and what can you bring to the table.

I have lived in District 4 for close to 25 years. In that time I have seen many changes in our city and I would like to be a part of the ongoing changes and help provide input.

What I can bring to the table is being a former officer with the Santa Monica Police Department and thus provide perspective from an officers point of view and also as a long time home owner in Pasadena. Over the years, I have had several interactions with our police department and usually stay informed on police activity/crime in our city.

I am considered to be a very fair & level headed individual who is well educated & has a good sense of humor.

If you have questions you would like to address I am listing my email & phone number.

All the best,
Kim

I'm writing to express my support for the reappointment of the current Community-based Organization members of the Police Oversight Commission. I'm also very pleased to see that the Community-based Commissioner terms are being extended to 3 years from now on. One year is too short and should not have been the term limit in the first place.

With regard to the application from Ms. Santell, while I appreciate her willingness to contribute, I'm not sure the perspective of a police officer is something that's missing. We have an entire police department from whom we can obtain an officer's perspective. I believe the whole point of the Oversight Commission is to ensure a voice and perspective from the community, which is not directly connected to law enforcement.

Thank you for your time.

Sincerely,
Colin Bogart
