Michelle Garrett, Assistant to the City Manager, provided introductory comments, and along with Ricky Pickens, Gang Interventionist, presented a Powerpoint presentation on the item, and responded to questions.

Councilmember Madison thanked the presenters for their work and the data that was included in the presentation, and asked them to continue to think of ways of how to measure the success of these efforts.

Councilmember Hampton thanked the presenters for their work and requested that more information be included in the data involving prevention of potential gang retaliation. In response to Councilmember Hampton's inquiry regarding the effectiveness of participants receiving monetary incentives while transitioning to work, Mr. Pickens confirmed that such support, in the form of stipends, has benefits for those transitioning to a new lifestyle, but should not be the main motivation.

Mayor Gordo spoke in support of Councilmember Hampton's idea, stating that such an incentive-based approach should be pursued, asking Mr.

Pickens to work with staff to discuss priorities and possible resources.

Mayor Gordo proposed providing training, along with the opportunity for future full time positions with City programs such as the MASH (Municipal Assistance, Solutions, and Hiring) program and the ROSE (Realizing Opportunities through Summer Employment) internship program.
