Dear Council members,
Please do not select Lucious Smith to sit for District 3 on the City Council. His exclusionary views and bible thumping do not belong in our government. Not only does he not represent the diversity of our district, he insults it.
I don't envy your position in having to choose between Mr. Lamar and Mr. Jones, both apparently worthy candidates who care about the real issues and can better represent District 3, honoring Mr. Kennedy's legacy.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Petrea Burchard Sandel

Questions or John Kennedy Replacement
I tried to email this to [email protected] and it was blocked, please forward to the City Council to ask candidates for John Kennedy's replacement.
Per your request from District 3 email notice, here are some questions for the proposed replacements of John Kennedy representing District 3.
1.District Three elected John Kennedy who was very clear on his stance on rent control. He believed that rent control was best delivered subsidized and not mandated for Mom and Pop landlords. What are your views on rent control in the city of Pasadena? How are they the same or different from John Kennedy's views?
2.John Kennedy got along with all members of the community in District 3 including all races., ethiiicities, income levels. He gave out his cell phone number when he met new neighbors. How do you plan to bridge the gap to the new members of the community who are moving in now?
3. John Kennedy held frequent in-person and Zoom meetings in District 3 to discuss issues with the police, city staff and the city manager. When there was a shooting in Robinson Park he responded with meeting with the community. What are your plans to keep in contact with the issues and community in District 3?
4.Susanna Porras has been John Kennedy's field rep for many years and knows the ins and out of the city in Spanish and English. She is extremely popular in the community. Do you plan to keep her on as your field rep? If not why?
5.Last but not least—somehow John managed give away Turkeys for those in need for Thanksgiving and hams for Christmas? Will you continue with the tradition? You don't need to mention my name when asking the question—it's more important to me that District 3 issues and responses are kept in the same traditions 1 that John started. He will be surely missed.
Please acknowledge receipt.
Thank you,
