Dear Pasadena City Council,
My name is Elise Preston Mallory, and I am an active volunteer within the City of Pasadena. I am writing because I support Justin Jones to be appointed to the Council Seat formerly held by Councilmember John Kennedy. I worked with John a lot to serve our community, and recognize the need to have someone step into place that can hit the ground running.

Justin Jones is that person! He is experienced, energetic and has a long commitment to serving the City of Pasadena as an employee of the City and currently as the Chair of the Pasadena Environmental Advisory Commission. Prior to this role, he served on the Pasadena Human Relations Commission as the District 3 Commissioner for 5 years (he showed leadership as he chaired this commission for 2 years).

Justin is a native of Pasadena and a proud product of PUSD. Being a licensed professional civil engineer who currently works for LA County Public Works, he is a knowledgeable in issues involving City/ Government Management. He has great relationships with city staff, and a vast network to lean on. He has shown his commitment to the city and has earned this appointment. I am respectfully requesting that you appoint Justin Jones to fill the open seat left by the untimely passing ofCouncilmemberJohn Kennedy.

Best,
Elise Preston Mallory

Dear Mayor, Vice Mayor and City Council Members:

You asked for comments from residents of District 3 to help guide your decision in appointing John Kennedy's replacement. I live and own property in District 3, and I heartily endorse Justin Jones to fill the vacancy in District 3. Justin has many qualifications and has indicated an understanding of the issues facing Pasadena including affordable housing, public safety, employment/small business opportunities, traffic safety, quality of life, and especially water as a Civil Engineer. He chairs the Environmental Advisory Commission, and the environment is a huge issue for everyone in the City. He would hit the ground running due to his professional background and understanding of City ordinances, functioning, budget, etc. Further, he has demonstrated an interest in the entire District — in particular, the Playhouse Village — which is a fast growing urban village in the City. It was clear in the recent redistricting task force meetings that the downtown urban core is important to the City's future and it is vital that we address this urban community.

Further, Justin is young and enthusiastic. He just wants to serve! He was mentored by John Kennedy, and John told him to think big. He would be the best possible candidate for this diverse district and will bring youth and vitality as well as a huge understanding of environmental issues. With his professional background, he can add much to this council. His plans to listen as much as lead is also vital to the success of our community.

Please appoint Justin as our next Council Member for District 3.

Sincerely,
Margie Lindbeck

Pasadena Mayor and City Council

Greetings:

I am a resident of District 3 and am writing in support of the candidacy of Justin Jones to fill the seat left vacant by the untimely death of John Kennedy.

I have been impressed by the intelligence and demeanor ofJustin Jones, and believe he is qualified to bring together the, perhaps sometimes, disparate interests of a district that covers several different neighborhoods and business areas.

He was educated in Pasadena's public schools, and understands the challenges faced by them in a city known for excellent quality private schools. His relative youth is a positive factor in this regard, and in his ability to relate to young people as well as older. He was able to use his Pasadena education as a stepping stone to a college engineering degree and that is something to show other young people in encouraging them to obtain higher education as well. He believes in helping individuals prosper and sees education as the equalizer it can be.

He is personable and listens when people talk to him. His engineering degree is evidence of his ability and determination, and he has used his analytic ability to come up with (and listen to) new ideas. He's a graduate of Pasadena's Neighborhood Leadership Institute, and it shows.

He has shown his commitment to Pasadena with his service on the Human Relations and Environmental Advisory Commissions.

I think it is in the best interest of the Council, and the city, to appoint Justin Jones and encourage his continued interest in solving the problems we face. We need people like him who can understand the complexity of issues, such as drought and water shortages, and can analyze potential solutions, and convey the information to the voters so that it can be understood.

Thank you for your consideration.
1 Sincerely,

RE: SUPPORT FOR JUSTIN L. JONES FOR APPOINTMENT TO THE

PASADENA CITY COUNCIL
Dear Mayor, Vice Mayor, and City Council Members:

I support the appointment of Justin L. Jones to fill the vacancy of the Pasadena City Council District 3 seat.

I don't know any of the candidates well, but I have had conversations with all three of them (one conversation occurred via Zoom). All three are satisfactory candidates in my view, but my preference is for Mr. Jones. And I believe that's because, like myself, he's a professional engineer. Engineers are problem-solving individuals, and heavens knows Pasadena has its share of problems. He knows how to analyze, and because of that engineering background his analysis skills might yield different perspectives or outlooks about a concern, relative to how other Council Members will address the problem with their particular backgrounds. I'm not saying one is better than the other — just different and therefore more diverse. which opens up the solution-space for civic problem solving.

Engineers, however, tend to be asocial as a group, and somewhat introverted. Mr. Jones defies that categorization as he's very involved in his community, as I've quickly learned.

He's collaborative and communicates well, as demonstrated by his ability to engage with the community as the chair of the Human Relations Commission, with his chairmanship of the Environmental Advisory Commission, and with his community advocacy. And by dint of his upbringing and his current residency in District 3, he understands day-to-day issues facing all its residents, including but not limited to affordable housing, public-safety, employment, and small business opportunities.

Justin is a unique combination of a clear thinking analyst combined with a compassionate, environmentally-aware humanist. A terrific combination for a public servant.

I urge you to appoint Justin L Jones as the next council person for District 3.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,
