My name is Rev Everett Bell. I am writing in support of the appointment of Mr. Justin Jones for City Council

3. I am the Pastor Bethel AME church in Monrovia. Although Mr. Jones is a member of a "sister" church, he has continued to be supportive of Bethel. Over the past six years, I have found him to be a studious, caring, conscientious man of character.

I am of the opinion that the great city of Pasadena would benefit profoundly from his support and leadership.

Please consider and appoint Mr. Justin Jones.

Cc: Suzuki, Takako <[email protected]>, Jomsky, Mark < [email protected]> Dear City Manager and Councilmembers,
I would like to support both Justin Jones and Brandon Lamar for City Council District 3. As the owner of My Zero Waste Store, I attended the late Councilmember Kennedy's Turkey Giveaway and gave away refillable laundry detergent and dish soap to community members in need. Councilmember Kennedy was very focused on civic duties. We were also discussing a neighborhood clean-up in his district and currently we are planning a tree planting in District 3 with a $1k grant from the California Clean Air Day Grant. I really see both Justin and Brandon maintaining this community focus and community engagement.. Brandon has always been involved with volunteering in the community and Justin has volunteered for the City on advisory groups and both are aware of community issues and have ideas on resolutions. I think both candidates would represent the community's needs and would benefit the constituents of District 3 and neighboring communities. Furthermore, comments from Reverend Smith have shown that he has little interest or knowledge of community issues and antiquated and onerous thoughts about religion.

I urge you to elect either Brandon or Justin. Please also take the Clean Air Day Pledge and do something good for the environment this Oct 5. https://www.cleanairday.org/pledge/ Mark, please distribute to anyone I missed.

SIncerely,

Dear City Clerk
I fully support the appointment of Justin L. Jones to fill the vacancy of the Pasadena City Council District 3 seat. Justin has indicated a deep understanding of municipal government and the issues facing District 3 and the City of Pasadena, including but not limited to affordable housing, public safety, employment and small business opportunities, traffic safety, quality of life, and water. As a licensed civil engineer and a dedicated public servant, he has professionally managed million-dollar projects and has dedicated a significant portion of his career to water quality and safety. He is versatile and has an adept knowledge of the environment, which is key to the prosperity of the City of Pasadena and our planet.

Justin has successfully demonstrated his ability to engage with the community within and extending beyond his former role as the chair of the Human Relations Commission and his current chairmanship the Environmental Advisory Commission. He is collaborative, innovative, enthusiastic, and accessible. He has exhibited kindness, integrity, and professionalism in all his interactions.

Justin's professional experience, personal connection to the City of Pasadena, and understanding of City and County ordinances, government, finance, budgeting etc. makes him the best candidate for the diverse Council District 3. Do not click links or open attachments unless you know the content is safe. Report phish using the Phish Alert Button. Learn more....

Dear Honorable Mayor Victor Gordo and Members of the City Council, In considering the replacement for our remarkable council member John Kennedy, the City Council needs to consider 2 key integrally linked questions:
• What does District 3 need?
• What does Pasadena need?
When viewed through that perspective, one applicant emerges as the clear choice: Justin Jones.

Justin Jones' roots are deep in the community. He's a native Pasadenan and attended Pasadena schools. He was a star on the football team at Pasadena High School. He served on the Human Relations Commission and became its chairman.

Now he is the chairman of the Environmental Advisory Commission.

Professionally, Justin Jones has very strong credentials. He's a principal engineer with an impressive background in energy and water policy and programs. He has planned and managed important public works programs worth millions.

As a 50+ year resident of District 3, I know that our representative needs to have a deep commitment to social justice and the needs of all residents. We need a representative who understands the forces that shape our diverse community and brings us together to improve our neighborhoods and our quality of life. Justin has proven his ability to do that by his involvement in many community issues and his service on two key city commissions.

Justin Jones, however, has unique qualifications that set him apart. His technical background and skills make him qualified to understand and provide leadership to the Council and to Pasadena on two enormous challenges that now face us: energy and water. He knows the vital importance of these issues and that they will be key to Pasadena's future resiliency and prosperity.

I urge you to honor District 3 by selecting this promising young leader Justin Jones to be the representative of District 3.

Sincerely,
Tim Brick

I am writing to voice my wholehearted support for Justin Jones for District 3 Councilperson. As a resident owner in the Playhouse Village area of District 3, I have read up on the backgrounds and experience of all three current candidates. To me, Justin Jones is the clear choice to build on the work of Councilman John Kennedy.

His experience in particular gives me confidence in endorsing him to represent our vibrant and growing community. While I respect the other candidates, I don't feel that they are as well qualified for this particular position as Mr. Jones.

I have to add in addition, that as a member of the LGBTQ+ community, I particularly would not feel well represented by Lucious W. Smith. While I understand his sincerely held beliefs regarding homosexuality, I don't think they are representative of the majority of Pasadenans or the residents of District 3 and I would have serious concens about how he would represent our interests when related issues arise.

I thank you for your consideration of this endorsement of Mr. Jones.

Sincerely,
Michael Massei

Dear Mayor, Vice Mayor and City Council Members:

I live and own property in District 3 and I heartily endorse Justin Jones to fill the vacancy in District 3. Justin has has demonstrated an understanding of the issues facing Pasadena including affordable housing, public safety, employment/small business opportunities, traffic safety, quality of life, and especially water as a Civil Engineer. He chairs the Environmental Advisory Commission and the environment is a huge issue for everyone in the City. He would hit the ground running due to his professional background and understanding of City ordinances, functioning, budget, etc. Further, he has demonstrated an interest in the entire District — in particular, the Playhouse Village — which is a fast growing section of the City. It was clear in the recent redistricting task force meetings that the downtown urban core is important to the City's future and it is vital that we address this urban growth.

Justin is young and enthusiastic. He was mentored by John Kennedy. He would bring so many positive attributes and needed knowledge to the Council. He would be the best possible candidate for this diverse district and bring youth and vitality in addition to his clear understanding of environmental issues. His plans to listen as much as lead is also vital to the success of our community.

Please appoint Justin as our next Council Person for District 3.

Dear City Council,
Please appoint Justin Jones to fill the City Council District 3 vacancy left by the regrettable passing of John Kennedy.

I reviewed articles published in Pasadena Now, and the correspondence posted with the City Council agenda. While both Jones and Lamar appear to be worthy candidates, I am more impressed by Jones' resume than Lamar's showing in the recent election, and prefer Jones as my choice. I concur with many commenters that Smith's well-documented views regarding the role of women in society, and the dignity and worth of our LGBT citizens, along with his "clarification" of those views, are disqualifying for the Pasadena City Council.

Thank you,
John Miles

CITY OF PASADENA
RE: LETTER OF SUPPORT FOR JUSTIN L. JONES FOR APPOINTMENT TO THE

PASADENA CITY COUNCIL
Dear Mayor, Vice Mayor, and City Council Members:

I write to you to extend full support for the appointment of my husband, Justin L. Jones, to fill the vacancy of the Pasadena City Council District 3 seat.

I have had the pleasure of personally knowing Justin as closely as anyone could, and I can proudly attest that my husband is the right choice for this position. He is humble, intelligent, rational, kind, collaborative, trustworthy, and the epitome of integrity. He understands municipal government and has a wealth of experience in municipal governance, budgeting, and operations. Although, I am sure you will receive multiple correspondences highlighting my husband's experience, I will speak to his character.

Justin is dedicated and loyal to the City of Pasadena. He has continuously demonstrated and attests to his love of Pasadena. He participated in city programs and internships from elementary school and throughout college. After graduating college, he returned home to fully nurture and establish his roots in Pasadena. Being a native of Pasadena has allowed him years of relationship development and a deep understanding of the challenges experienced by all who live and work in this great city.

Justin is passionate about serving and ensuring equity for all people. Justin has demonstrated this as a licensed civil engineer. He continues to mentor and uplift young civil engineers to ensure they flourish in the field. Outside his professional career, he has successfully tutored math to students in Pasadena. It is no secret and unfortunate that students' math scores dropped during the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. During this time, Justin used his skillset to provide additional one-to-one help for students.

Justin always lends his assistance and expertise whenever he can and has done so repeatedly for the City of Pasadena as an intern, commissioner, and advisory committee member.

I believe the most important characteristic of any representative in municipal government is the ability to be transparent, collaborative, accessible, and demonstrates a deep love for the people they represent. In this circumstance, the individual chosen must also be experienced in municipal government, familiar with City staff, and versed in the various issues affecting the City of Pasadena.

Justin can and will meet these needs, given the opportunity.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,
Vitalya Roo.

Dear Mayor, Vice Mayor, and City Council Members:

Justin is highly respected across the City of Pasadena and can hit the ground running given the opportunity.

I urge you to appoint Justin L Jones as the next council person for District 3.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,
Karl Percell I|

To the Pasadena City Council:

I am writing to recommend Justin Jones to fill the open District 3 City Council seat.

I first met Justin about 12 years ago when he worked as my Summer Rose Intern at Pasadena Water and Power. He immediately distinguished himself from all previous interns in his maturity and genuine eagerness to learn about ALL aspects of utility operations. Justin had already decided he would major in civil engineering at college that fall, so of course he was thrilled to meet the engineers on the floor below. But he also took every opportunity to learn from colleagues in other fields, boldly asking questions of customer service staff and top management alike.

As my intern in Marketing Communications, Justin was just as hungry to learn the nuts and bolts of communicating with the public about utility initiatives. The first day on the job, he marveled at the dozens of communication projects I had in play at that moment. And then he asked an insightful question that I'll never forget: "But how do you decide what to do first?" He saw -- maybe better than I did -- that the job was much more than the product. There are competing demands and competing priorities that need to be negotiated before all else. It started a long conversation that / learned from as much as he did.

I gave Justin several writing assignments that summer, and being earnest and diligent, he would ask many questions before getting to the task. He was gracious and grateful for my edits, without an ounce of defensiveness. To me that gratul or my dis signified that Justin was gifted with a growth mindset that would serve him well in his career and in life.

I've crossed paths with Justin numerous times over the years since I left the Department. What has struck me in every encounter is that Justin -- having matured into an adult, a homeowner, a husband, a professional civil engineer, a City Commissioner - has maintained the same bold curiosity, temperance and humility that he demonstrated years ago at PWP. We've talked about issues that trouble the city and the country. When he asks for my opinion, he's not seeking out what to think or affirmation of his own opinion. The engineer in Justin is clearly gathering data points to get a clear picture of all competing factors that must be puzzled together.

If you appoint Justin Jones to the District 3 Council seat, I can assure you he will come to the position without an agenda.

His loyalty is to problem solving and building strong consensus around what will work best and for the long haul. He will ask the right questions of staff and constituents. He will seek out their wisdom and competing viewpoints. He will build bridges in our community.

Sincerely,
Erica Rolufs
District 3 Resident

Hi, All.

I was having technical issues and could not comment to the City Council tonight, so I would like to send my comments via email.

Thanks in advance for your time to read comment below.

Best,
Calum
Good evening. My name is Calum Chisholm and I am a resident of District 3 and a business owner on District 7.

I run a fuel cell and energy research laboratory on Chester Avenue, near Caltech where I earned my PhD.

You have three very fine candidates for the District 3 seat.

Like many in the city, I am paying attention to the city's planning documents and capital projects concerning energy and water security, the environment and housing.

I urge you to appoint a candidate who has experience in weighing the complexities and competing demands of such issues.

I recommend Justin Jones, who is a civil engineer.

In my conversations with Justin I appreciate his incisive questions on complex issues and his willingness to consider different points of view.

Thank you,
Calum Chisholm
