He, whose word cannot be broken,
Form'd thee for His c,wn abode.

Who can faint while such a river
Ever flows their thirst to assuage?
Grace, which, like- the Lord, the Giver,
Never fails from age to age. On the Rock of Ages founded, What can shake thy ~ure repose?
With salvation's walls surrounded,
Thou may'st smile at all thy foes.

Savior, if of Zion's city
I, through grace, a member am,
Let the world deride or pity,
I will glory in Thy Narnz.

See the streams of living waters
Springing from eternal love.

Well supply thy sons and daughters,
And all fear of want remove.

All his boasted pomp and show;

DO-IT-YOURSELF
Church Members
Build New Organ
By Biffie Trowbridge
THE POSS~ILITY' of ac
qulrinl' a new organ tar their
church seemed a task of glp.n•
tic proportion• when the 125-
member congreraUon of Mt.

OUve Lutheran Church of
Pasadena met to d11c:UA it
Jaat spring.

Today that conire,at1on la
probably the proudest any
where. It not only hu a fine
new orran but each member
has the sense of accompU.h•
ment which comes from work•
Ing together and achlevlnc
much more than they dared
hope.
• The new 22-rank Artlsan
orran was built piece by piece
and wire by wire, by memben
of the coneregatlon them•
selves. Its special echo effect.a
and stereophonic units were
also installed by the rnemben.
* RAISING the money to
purchase the orran klta from
Artisan Organ Company of
Altadena wasn't easy but the
eongreeatlon subscribed IO en•
thusJuUcally that there wa1
enough money left over to buy
an 18-note chime to go with It.

Norman Sauppe, lay ch&lr
man ot the project, volun
teered his home and 30 men
and women, •l'e• 15 to 16.
came In the eventnca and on
weekends to build the com•
ponent parta 1rom the klta.

Construction began on May H
on the tone cenerators and
changers, and ampllflers. In
three weeks this phase wu
completed and work moved t•
the churc:h at 1118 N, Allen
Ave.

Sauppe says the1 all had so
much fun and were aG Inter•
ested fn the conatructJon that
they were disappointed when
the kite were all uaembled.

He and another eledrlclan
.trom the conerega tlon demon•
atrated the art of aolderfnc
the wl.reJI and aasembly and
nearly everyone tried hi• hand
at It.

The new or1an wu auem
bled 1n the coMOle of the old
5-rank orpn, ualnc the or1ct·
n.al keyboanu, couplera, ped&ll
and speaker•. The old oraan
wu dwnantled on July 1 &.tter
the choir had receued for the
awnmer. Testing and wiring of
the eon.sole was done 1n the
choir loft and completed on
Aue. 17,
* THE REV. M A R T I N
ZAGEL. putor, says that the
project was the moat satls1y-
1n&' and lnterest1n1 experience
of h1a a years In the ministry.

He added that It waa ao .fuci.
natlnr that he apent a 1ood
deal of time watcbinc the ••
aembly and even did aome of
the wlrloc.

Sauppe pointed out that an
or1an of the quality they now
have would cost approximately
$7,000 but by usembllnc It
themselves the coat ran only
to about $2.400. The instru•
ment baa 230 electronic tube1,
178 tone ceneratora, 22 •peak•
Inc stops and 22 speakers In
tour tone cabinets, and a !our
channel aound system.

A dedication service and re,
cltal 1a belnc held this after
noon at 3 p.m. Gordon Mc
Millan, well-known orpnlst,
will be guest musician. George

Church bell donated by owner of an orange grove. Bell was used to call workers. Per Rev. Horn who was told the story by a man who lived in the area and had wrung the bell.

Church piano was purchased by Mount Olive for the purpose of supporting Pasadena Conservatory of Music. Rev. Hom said Ruth Congdon was involved in this process. I was told by the Steinway tuner that the piano was older than the church. We should attempt to find out how old piano is and where it was manufactured. Some info11nation such as serial number must be in/on the instrument.

I was told by Rev. Horn that the Coast Guard Auxiliary did in fad meet at Mt. Olive for decades. A member of Mt. Olive and the Coat Guard Auxiliary started the process. I will be contacting the Coast Guard to see if they have any records of these meetings.
