What do we want in a City Councilman?
We want someone who shows up. Listens. Considers all sides of an issue. Takes action.
In his short time acting as our District 3 Councilman, Justin Jones has shown up consistently at Garfield Heights Historic district events, neighborhood meetings, get-togethers, and even trash walks to clean up our streets. He has listened. Please give him time to consider and take action on issues affecting our neighborhood. Issues are complicated and can't be solved overnight or even in a few months. The most important thing to me right now is that Justin is present and listening.
Thank you for your consideration.

Dear Mayor, Vice Mayor, and City Councilmembers:
I am a Pasadena native and resident of District 3.
I strongly support the reappointment of Councilmember Justin Jones to the Pasadena City Council as the representative for District
3. I believe that constituent services and being accessible to constituents are among the most important parts of a councilmember's job. With respect to that most important measure, Councilmember Jones has quickly shown a commitment to constituent service. I have seen Justin at numerous events since his appointment. These events have included a district 3 community meeting; a meeting with representatives from District 3's neighborhood associations; several Garfield Heights Neighborhood Association events; district events held at multiple parks; and an NAACP community event with the new City Manager and new Rose Bowl Stadium General Manager. At each of these events, I have observed Justin interact with numerous District 3 residents and stay until everyone has had a chance to speak to him and ask any questions or express any concerns he or she may have. Additionally, I watched a seminar via Zoom on doing business with the city of Pasadena that Justin arranged. I have been extremely impressed with how Councilperson Jones has served his district so far.
As I look to the future of District 3 and our entire city, I hope that District 3 will continue to be led by a councilperson committed to serving his constituents and who has the requisite skills and experience to handle the challenges our city will face in the future. His engineering background is well suited to addressing environmental challenges related to water and power. His fluency with numbers makes him well suited for budget related issues. His congenial nature enables him to work well with his colleagues.
I urge you to reappoint Councilmember Justin Jones and allow him to continue his admirable service to District 3 and our entire city.
Sincerely,
Danny Parker

Dear Councilmember Williams,
The Pasadena Management Association (PMA) represents over 450 top, middle, and professional City employees across all departments, proudly providing the Pasadena community with vital programs and services on a daily basis. PMA representatives had the pleasure of meeting with District 3 Councilmember Justin Jones recently. Based on that dialogue, there was mutual agreement that fairness, equity, and empowerment in the City workforce were essential to building a stronger Pasadena. We feel this alignment will support the goals and objectives of PMA very well. In that same vein, we also believe Councilmember Jones will provide the support and leadership necessary to advance the goals of both District 3, and the City as a whole.
So, as you listen and consider candidates to fill the upcoming term in District 3, PMA would like to offer its support for Councilmember Jones and recommend his reappointment to this seat. We are confident he will succeed.
Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,

Members of the Pasadena City Council
Pasadena City Hall

Dear Mayor Gordo and Pasadena City Council Members:
I am a 26-year resident of District 3 and a lifelong Pasadena resident. While I am not outwardly involved with City public policy issues on a day-to-day basis, I do closely watch what is going on in our cherished City and I participate from the background. By way of my interests and profession, issues that I stay closest to include housing, land use, economic & human capital development, and youth sports.
District 3 (and the entire City) was stunned by the unexpected passing of John Kennedy this past July. I am still in disbelief over his passing - John is irreplaceable and he was a "champion" for D3. But for the sake and advancement of the City, we must move forward hence the reason I penned this letter.
For the record, I want to express my strong support for the current District 3 City Councilmember, Justin Jones. Justin has brought professionalism, focus, and passion to the D3 Seat in a short period of time as he is a "quick study." Moreover, I see Justin evolving into an effective advocate for issues that affect District 3 and the City overall. I have watched the Council meetings and I have closely observed Justin - he listens, and he understands collaboration. He has what it takes to partake in decisions that shape public policies in municipal government. Justin is deserving of the pending opportunity.
Another issue I want to address is the process by which a Councilperson is selected in situations like this. I am aware there has been criticism of the process used to select Mr. Jones. I know this process very well as I was a participant in it back in 2012, when I completed the term of then-City Councilman Chris Holden. As you all know, Chris was elected to represent our 41s* Assembly District, a seat in which he still occupies. At that time, my selection and appointment were uneventful, and it worked out fine. Here in 2022, however, there are those in the Community that question that process because they did not get their way in terms of their desired candidate. There are even folks outside the community that criticized the process - I dismiss them without much consideration. The statement from some that more people in the community supported another candidate over Mr. Jones is false. How can this be proven? The fact is it cannot. More important, it does not matter as the process does not call for who is perceived to be the most popular or the most supported. The City Charter requires the City Council fill this vacancy. District 3 voters can decide the Seat through the voting process in 2024. But for now, l urge the reappointment of Mr. Justin Jones for the remaining term into 2024.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,

RE: PLEASE REAPPOINT JUSTIN L. JONES TO THE PASADENA CITY COUNCIL Dear Mayor, Vice Mayor, and City Council Members:
As a longtime resident of District 3, I urge you to renew the appointment of Justin L. Jones to the Pasadena City Council as the representative for community. Since his initial appointment, Justin Jones has proven the wisdom of your selection. I've seen him at numerous events in the community and have admired his listening ability and caring spirit. I was not surprised because / was aware of his service on the Human Relations Commission and on the Environmental Advisory Commission. He exercised quiet but determined leadership there, as evidenced by his election as chairman of both commissions:
I am confident that Justin Jones will continue to exercise leadership for social justice and equal opportunity, which is so important for District 3 and all Pasadena. I am also very concerned by the challenges facing Pasadena and our region in the fields of water and energy policy. I am encouraged by the recent selections of Stacie Takeguchi and Sidney Jackson for the key positions at Pasadena Water and Power. I have great hopes that they will bring new focus and innovation to that Department, and Justin Jones has the background and commitment in those fields to provide informed support for the changes that are necessary to address climate change, declining water resources, and the transition to non-carbon energy sources.
Justin Jones knows District 3, and he knows Pasadena. He also has experience in working in a collaborative manner in important roles in municipal politics and regional government. I am confident that these qualities will serve us and all Pasadena residents well. He is a listener, but he is a doer as well.
Councilmember Jones has demonstrated his dedication, personal connection to the City of Pasadena, and understanding of City and County ordinances, government, finance, budgeting etc.
He is highly respected throughout Pasadena and has made an excellent start in these few months.
I urge you to reappoint Councilmember Justin L. Jones.
Thank you for your service and consideration.

Dear Mr. Jomsky,
Please forward the following letter to the Council.
Dear Mayor Gordo,
I would like to recommend that the City Council appoint Justin Jones to represent the 3rd district for the next two years.
I am a Pasadena property owner and Pasadena business owner. I'm also the current acting chair of the Environmental Advisory Commission. I've worked with Mr. Jones as colleagues on the commission. The city of Pasadena is facing some serious water issues including the strong possibility of Raymond Basin depletion that will negatively impact Pasadena's water supply. There is also the JPL contamination, the rebuilding of the Sunset Reservoir and the implementation of the Water Sytems and Resource Plan.
As an engineering professional, working for the Metropolitan Water District, Mr. Jones is uniquely qualified to serve the 3rd district as the Council grapples with existential water issues. I feel very strongly that the Council needs to have someone in the 3rd district seat who has Mr. Jones expertise with regard to water.
Having grown up in Pasadena Mr. Jones is also in a position to know the community well. He has been of service sitting on another city commision before I had the pleasure of meeting him. I am confident that Mr. Jones will serve the 3rd district well.
Please appoint Mr. Jones to the next two year term.
Sincerely yours,

RE: LETTER OF SUPPORT TO REAPPOINT JUSTIN L. JONES TO THE PASADENA CITY COUNCIL Dear Mayor, Vice Mayor, and City Council Members:
I submitted the letter pasted below on September 21, 2022 in support of Justin Jones appointment to Pasadena City Council. Not much has changed since then, so I fully support the reappointment of him to the Pasadena City Council as the representative for District 3. In his 10-11 weeks on Council, Justin has exhibited an understanding of municipal government and the issues facing District 3 and the City of Pasadena. For example, he initiated valuable conversations about defining Pasadena's Conceal to Carry Weapon Permit requirements, as well as committing to local hiring. Moreover, he appears to hold an open mind on issues pertaining to the environment and energy, as befits a former Chair of the Environmental Advisory Commission in this era of climate change.
I urge you to reappoint Councilman Justin L. Jones.
Thank you for your time and consideration.

RE: SUPPORT FOR JUSTIN L. JONES FOR APPOINTMENT TO THE
PASADENA CITY COUNCIL
Dear Mayor, Vice Mayor, and City Council Members:
I support the appointment of Justin L. Jones to fill the vacancy of the Pasadena City Council District 3 seat.
I don't know any of the candidates well, but I have had conversations with all three of them (one conversation occurred via Zoom). All three are satisfactory candidates in my view, but my preference is for Mr. Jones. And I believe that's because, like myself, he's a professional engineer. Engineers are problem-solving individuals, and heavens knows Pasadena has its share of problems. He knows how to analyze, and because of that engineering background his analysis skills might yield different perspectives or outlooks about a concern, relative to how other Council Members will address the problem with their particular backgrounds. I'm not saying one is better than the other - just different and therefore more diverse. which opens up the solution-space for civic problem solving.
Engineers, however, tend to be asocial as a group, and somewhat introverted. Mr. Jones defies that categorization as he's very involved in his community, as I've quickly learned. He's collaborative and communicates well, as demonstrated by his ability to engage with the community as the chair of the Human Relations Commission, with his chairmanship of the Environmental Advisory Commission, and with his community advocacy. And by dint of his upbringing and his current residency in District 3, he understands day- to-day issues facing all its residents, including but not limited to affordable housing, public-safety, employment, and small business opportunities.
Justin is a unique combination of a clear thinking analyst combined with a compassionate, environmentally- aware humanist. A terrific combination for a public servant.
I urge you to appoint Justin L Jones as the next council person for District 3.
Thank you for your time and consideration.

Dear Councilmembers,
Please allow Justin Jones to continue representing District 3 for the duration of this term. If another election was held today, we believe he would have overwhelming support from voters.
Councilman Jones has done a remarkable job of stepping up and into the position, addressing the concerns of our neighborhood from the start.
Appointing anyone else would be a disservice to the residents of our district.

RE: LETTER OF SUPPORT TO REAPPOINT JUSTIN L. JONES TO THE
PASADENA CITY COUNCIL
Dear Mayor, Vice Mayor, and City Council Members:
I fully support the reappointment of Councilmember Justin L. Jones to the Pasadena City Council as the representative for District 3. Justin has exhibited his deep understanding of municipal government and the issues facing District 3 and the City of Pasadena in his current role as the sitting councilmember. He has demonstrated advocacy for issues that affect District 3 residents and the City of Pasadena. As someone who was born and raised in the city of Pasadena, I have experienced many different people in council. Justin L. Jones has initiated rich conversations around the community demonstrating his want for change.
As a member of the community, I first hand have experience the down falls of living in poverty, low-income housing projects, drugs and violence. I have experienced what those things have done to our families. This community is still suffering and needs someone who truly cares and wants to see change. I believe Justin L. Jones understands the role he will be taking and is passionate about seeking change. He has facilitated conversations and established spaces with individuals, leaders, and stakeholders in the district to listen to their concerns. He has continued to be collaborative, enthusiastic, and accessible. He has exhibited kindness, integrity, and professionalism in all his interactions. I strongly believe this is exactly what this community needs.
Councilmember Jones's dedication, personal connection to the City of Pasadena, and understanding of City and County ordinances, government, finance, budgeting etc. makes him the best candidate for the diverse Council District 3. I myself am a business owner. I know the dedication it takes. I also am a strong advocate for change. I see he is highly respected across the City of Pasadena and has done so much to elevate the district in these few months.
I urge you to reappoint Councilmember Justin L. Jones.
Thank you for your time and consideration.

To Mayor Victor Gordo and all City Council Members:
I'm a resident of District 3, located in Old Pasadena, and would like to request that you continue supporting Justin Jones in his position of representing District 3. Since his appointment as the interim District 3 Representative, he has reached out to residents and business owners here in Old Pasadena. I find this refreshing and particularly since this is the only other person, who was running for this District, obviously other than John Kennedy, who has asked the question of what is happening in Old Pasadena, what are our concerns, and how can he help us in the future.
Justin is aware that District 3 extends both above and below the freeway and his interest in eping abreast of what is going on here is very welcome. There is a large residenti pulation here along with the businesses of Old Pasadena that need this representation and and my husband, Gene, look forward to working with Justin in the future.
Thank you for your consideration in the permanent selection of Justin Jones for our representative for District 3.

Dear Mayor Gordo, Vice Mayor Wilson, and City Council Members:
I am a property owner and resident in District 3 and I heartily endorse Justin Jones to fill John Kennedy's seat in District
3. Justin has many qualifications and has indicated an understanding of the issues facing Pasadena including affordable housing, public safety, employment/small business opportunities, traffic safety, quality of life, downtown urban development, and especially water quality and availability through his profession as a Civil Engineer. He chairs the Environmental Advisory Commission and the environment is a huge issue for everyone in the City.
Justin hit the ground running and has demonstrated a clear understanding of City ordinances, functioning, budget, and issues facing Pasadena.
He has demonstrated an interest in the entire District - in particular, the Playhouse Village - which is a large and growing urban center in our City. In fact, Justin is the only candidate to solicit support and to ask what our issues are in Playhouse Village. His opponents said Council didn't listen to the people, but Justin is the only candidate who has listened to us!
Further, Justin is young and enthusiastic. He wants to serve! He was mentored by John Kennedy and John told him to think big. He continues to demonstrate he is the best possible candidate for this diverse district and brings youth and vitality as well as a huge understanding of environmental issues. He has shown that he intends to listen as much as lead, and this quality is vital to the success of our large and diverse District 3.
Please reppoint Justin as our next Council Member for District 3 so he can continue the important work he's already begin.
Sincerely,

Dear Pasadena City Council:
I was at 2 "Meet & Greets" this past weekend for Justin Jones, along with numerous other District 3 residents, and all of us are so impressed with Justin as our new council member; i.e., he is not easy to forget in that his demeanor is noteworthy & distinguished, he is very well spoken and has incredibly good manners, is also well-informed about our District and the work needed to involve many more residents, and he is a more than suitable replacement for our beloved John Kennedy, whom we all still miss.
I have lived on Sunset Ave since 1985, and am very, very familiar with the provincial mindset of many of our neighbors in District 3, and Justin seems to be very familiar with the 'culture' as well, some of which I consider is attributed to the lack of our terrific annual BBQ which stopped occurring during COVID, so we are all now looking forward again to our August BBQ night in 2023.
In effect, 1 am really impressed with Justin as our representative. He also did quite a good job a couple weeks ago hosting the meeting in "Renaissance Plaza" re: the recent shooting incident in our District and not far from my neighborhood. The meeting itself was really good and a number of us discussed much of it at the meet & greet we were at this weekend.
Thank-you for your work, time, and attention to this matter.
Sincerely,
Angela Di Mauro
