Among the matters to be discussed in today's closed-door session is pending litigation regarding the city's rent control ordinance. As members of Pasadena's community, we are very concerned over the presence of Council Member Rivas who would attend these closed-door sessions. Council Member Rivas openly supported the underlying ballot measure and has been very vocal about her position on rent control and her support for it. Since Council Member Rivas signed the argument in support of Measure H with her title as Council Member; we must question her ability to be impartial due to her ongoing active campaigning of the measure and consistent support of the ballot measure. We object to her participation in these discussions.
We respectfully request that Council Member Rivas recuse herself from these deliberations or that she be excluded from involvement in these discussions.
