Dear Mayor Gordo and Members of the Pasadena City Council, As Executive Director of Pasadena Audubon, I am reaching out to ask that you please support a 100% Carbon Free Power by 2030 goal championed by the Pasadena 100 coalition, and unanimously supported by the Pasadena Unified School District Board of Directors, Pasadena City College Board of Trustees, and Pasadena Environmental Advisory Commission. Pasadena Audubon is an active participant on this coalition.
You may wonder what connection there is between birds and clean, carbon-free power. Put simply, climate change represents the biggest current threat to bird populations. A quickly changing climate interferes with ecological relationships, for example, changing the moment when insect populations rise in the Arctic, where many of our local birds migrate to breed. If the insects are not present when the birds arrive en masse, they will not be able to feed their young. It is incumbent upon us to do all we can to limit these potentially catastrophic effects which will ripple through the natural world exacerbating the biodiversity loss crisis that we are already witnessing.
Only clean, carbon-free power will guarantee Pasadena does its part to address the climate emergency. Per the most recent public data, Pasadena remains almost 50% powered by coal, the dirtiest fossil fuel. Statewide the average is 3%. As a result of our use of so much dirty power Pasadena produces more than double the GHG emissions per kilowatt hour than the rest of the state.
I urge you to join our neighbors in Sierra Madre, South Pasadena, and elsewhere in adopting a goal of 100% Carbon Free Power by 2030, the goal championed by the Pasadena 100 coalition.
With appreciation for your service to the Pasadena community.
Lois Brunet

Am writing in support of A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PASADENA, CALIFORNIA DECLARING A CLIMATE EMERGENCY AND SETTING A GOAL TO SOURCE 100% OF PASADENA'S ELECTRICITY FROM CARBON FREE SOURCES BY 2030"
Approval of this resolution by the City Council will be an important step in creating the direction and momentum for electricity from carbon free sources. Pasadena is well situated to tap these sources including wind, geothermal, local building and commercial solar. All of which will continue to be cost effective sources for electricity.

Hello,
I have been a Pasadena resident of District 7 for nearly 25 years and write to express my support of Agenda Item #5 slated for tonight's City Council meeting. As we are experiencing a global climate emergency, Pasadena must take the lead in proactively addressing this issue by moving away from its use of fossil fuels and striving for 100% clean energy significantly sooner than the current target date of 2045.
As such, I wholeheartedly support and encourage the City Council to vote yes on Agenda Item #5, the adoption of a Resolution requiring PWP to source 100% carbon-free electricity by 2030.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at Thank you for your consideration,
Patricia Barajas Tavera

Dear Mayor and City Council Members,
This is William Pan, and I am 13 years old. I go to school in Pasadena at Polytechnic School, and I really care about the planet and acknowledge the harmful effects of fossil fuels. However, the energy coming from PWP (Pasadena Water and Power) that is used to power my school isn't 100% renewable.
I acknowledge and thank you for your efforts to transition to renewable energy as fast as possible, but we need carbon- free/renewable energy by 2030.
Thank you for your time and consideration, and hope we can have carbon-free energy as soon as possible, hopefully by 2030!

Dear Mayor and City Councilmembers,
My name is Sona and I am thirteen years old. I live and go to school in Pasadena. I care about our planet and fossil fuels being burned when I turn on the lights, use appliances, or even take a shower. It may not affect you right now, but my world and future will be affected by the greenhouse gasses contaminating our atmosphere every single time I need to use energy. Although you have already made great changes, we need the Pasadena City Council to encourage PWP to transition to 100% renewable energy by 2030.
Thank you for your time and consideration.

First, I would like to thank you so much for your efforts to move to renewable energy as soon as possible.

Dear Mayor and City Council members,
My name is Ella Bilu and I am a student at Westridge School. I am also a Pasadena resident who lives in District 4. Last October, I attended a rally outside of Pasadena City Hall urging our city to promote the Carbon-free Energy by 2030 Resolution. Today, on January 30th, that resolution may finally be approved at the city council meeting. It is important to me that the city I live in engages in clean energy, not energy that is powered by coal and contributes to the rising levels of fossil fuels. Our air in Los Angeles is already polluted enough. Last year, a study found that Los Angeles had the most polluted air out of 2,400 cities a part of the study. Pasadena, like many other cities in the Los Angeles county area, can be a part of the change to make our city's air cleaner. Climate change is a pressing issue that has the potential to have a catastrophic effect on my generation. By utilizing clean energy, Pasadena can do its part to protect future generations from an uninhabitable Earth. I thank you for considering this resolution and hope that you see its value. Let's protect our planet.
All the best,
Ella Bilu

Members of the City Council,
There is simply no other way to put it. We are in a climate crisis. The actions that we take now will determine the fate of our species.
Before you, you have the ability to take meaningful action. To acknowledge the crisis that we are in and to take one of the actions necessary to preserve our future.
My name is Sam Berndt, and I stand in solidarity with PASADENA 100, a coalition of 23 Pasadena-based organizations aiming to make Pasadena source 100% of its electricity from carbon free sources by 2030.
We stand in solidarity with Pasadena Unified School District Board of Education, with the Associated Students of Pasadena City College, with the Pasadena City College Board of Trustees, with the Environmental Advisory Commission, with the League of Women Voters Pasadena Area, with NAACP Pasadena, with the Sierra Club of California, with the Scientists, Young Adults, and Physicians of Pasadena, and with the 1300 Pasadena Residents who signed postcards in support of this goal.
We are standing here before you because this is our moment.
For we stand today in a city, noted for knowledge and science, with a sense of urgency and righteousness, in an hour of unity and of opportunity. This is our moment
We stand today at a time when our city is planning how it will source its electricity for the next 20 years. This is our moment For today we stand as a city, united in solidarity against the greatest threat we may ever know, because this is our moment.
We have 7 years to prevent climate breakdown.
For our kids, for our families, for our communities, for our species. We stand before you because we have one chance at this. This is it. This is our moment.

Dear Pasadena City Council,
I am sending you this email in full support of the Resolution that will require PWP to source 100% carbon-free electricity by 2030. This is the number one most important issue today, the survival of our planet and Pasadena must do their part. Personally, I have taken very strong measures in my lifestyle for over 10 years as I follow a strict plant based diet due to my concerns with the impact meat makes on the earth. I have been driving 100% electric cars for over 8 years too! Please do the responsible and right thing for the future of our children and vote YES!!.
