Vice Mayor Williams and Councilmembers Jones, Lyon, and Hampton, Thank you again for your leadership in declaring a climate emergency and committing to 100% carbon free electricity by the end of 2030.
It is ironic that we are experiencing a nearly 20% price increase today due to our usage of fossil fuels and yet the primary concern we hear about the transition to carbon free energy is the cost; however baseless that argument may be.
Fortunately, many forms of carbon free electricity are cheaper than fossil fuels and do not experience this type of price volatility based on supply and demand.
I look forward to the day that we are no longer bound by fossil fuel contracts that are burning our planet and leave us at the whim of whomever supplies the fossil fuel.
Thank you again for your continued leadership and support of 100% carbon free electricity by 2030.
In Solidarity,
Sam Berndt

Good morning Committee Members and staff,
The recent extreme fluctuation in methane gas and fossil fuel prices is the latest example of the price volatility that is inherent with the use of these polluting forms of energy. This latest episode also underlines the fallacy in suggesting that our continued reliance on status quo forms of dirty power is the most cost-effective and equitable approach for ratepayers.
Clean sources of power such as geothermal and solar/storage provide the very significant benefit of providing price certainty over a decade or more. This inherent advantage is another reason why the City should genuinely focus on accelerating its transition to 100% carbon-free power.
As you vote on increasing the burden on low-income ratepayers already saddled with the extremely high increase in SoCalGas prices, I hope you will consider these facts.
I also encourage you to clarify with staff when ratepayers should expect to see prices drop, should gas prices do so in the coming months. As they say in the fossil fuel industry, "gos prices go up like a rocket, but down like a feather."
Thank you for your service to Pasadena,
Wes Reutimann

Carbon free energy is now cheaper and not subject to price swings and increased cost of living like natural gas is. We are in a climate emergency and need to transition to 100% carbon free energy immediately. Not only will this provide more stable costs, but also cleaner air and reduce our impact on climate change.

Municipal Services Committee,
I am writing regarding the recent price increases of energy in our area.
Clearly, the pricing of fossil fuels is volatile and difficult to predict. Last year, gasoline prices doubled. Recently, the price of methane gas doubled. No one predicted that, and no models forecast this change. Now, we see the price of methane gas is going up AGAIN!
The best remedy for unpredictable fossil fuel prices is to transition to 100% carbon free energy by 2030. PWP has argued that such a change would be too expensive. But - clearly - it is the fossil fuels which are too expensive, and fossil fuel prices are too difficult to predict.
We can't afford to keep polluting.
Thank you for everything you are doing for our city!
- Jonah Kanner
