Regarding Item #1 - POWER COST ADJUSTMENT (PCA) - WHOLESALE ENERGY MARKET IMPACTS I understand that Item #1 is information-only, and that the MSC is not making a decision.
I want to make sure that the Committee and the Council understands how this relates to the resolution to go 100% renewable. We have heard lots of complaints that renewables are costly and that they are intermittent. So what are we to make of the remarkable volatility in the cost of natural gas? Renewable energy is less costly than fossil fuel-based energy. And just as important, it is much less volatile. Renewables are not subject to pipeline ruptures, refinery failures, wars, hurricanes, train derailments, geopolitical manipulations, etc. I've never heard of a sunshine or a wind spill.
Certainly solar and wind are intermittent - but they are intermittent on a predictable basis, and the power system can be designed to handle these variations.
We must redouble our efforts to switch to 100% carbon-free electricity.
