Dear Honorable Mayor Gordo, Pasadena City Council, Superintendent McDonald and PUSD Board Members, In tight of your joint meeting on March 20th, we wanted to bring up a topic that has potential for PUSD and City of Pasadena cooperation, which would be mutually beneficial.
The Madison Heights Neighborhood Association ("MHNA") is a non-profit organization that represents about 1,500 Pasadena residents in Southwest Pasadena. The Allendale Elementary School campus, which is designated by PUSD as a surplus asset, is located within MHNA's borders.
Allendale School has essentially been vacant for 17 years now, and unfortunately has become an increasingly serious safety and fire hazard. Also, the site's lack of use is striking given the extremely heavy use ofAllendale Park, which is immediately adjacent to Allendale School.
The City of Pasadena, as well as the surrounding neighborhood, could provide a useful role in accelerating PUSD's determination of the best future for the Allendale School property. Nearby residents have been putting a lot of thought into this. Toward that end, we propose the creation of an ad hoc committee: a PUSD / City of Pasadena / Neighborhood Working Group to discuss how the Allendale School campus can be repurposed in a timely and optimal fashion for all parties.
We appreciate your consideration of this proposal, and welcome helping to craft a solution at Allendale that is of benefit to PUSD, its students at Blair, and the greater surrounding community.
Best regards,
^^T

President, MHNA
