Dear Council Members,
I am writing this letter to express my enthusiastic support for Allison Henry's selection as an Alternate Tenant on Pasadena's new Rental Board.
As a resident of Garfield Heights, I have had the pleasure of knowing Allison for the past 10 years, and during that time, I have witnessed her tireless dedication to advocating for the rental community.
As a Board member of the Garfield Heights Neighborhood Association, Allison has worked tirelessly to ensure that the unique concerns of renters are given the attention they deserve. Her efforts have been crucial in bringing the perspective of renters to the forefront of every conversation, which is often overlooked by homeowners in our neighborhood.
Allison has consistently advocated for the rights and protections of tenants. She has a proven track record of serving our community by providing resources, legal protections, and support to tenants. Her efforts in educating people about tenant rights and enforcing landlord compliance with the law have been invaluable to our neighborhood.
Additionally, Allison played a key role in the creation of Pasadena's new Measure H, demonstrating her ability to work collaboratively with city council and various city departments.
Given her experience serving on the mayor's housing task force, I am confident that Allison has the necessary qualifications and expertise to make a valuable contribution to the new rental board. I fully support her selection as an Alternate, and I am confident that she will be an excellent addition to the Rental Board.
Sincerely,
Lisa Mann

Dear City of Pasadena Rental Board -
I'm writing to encourage you to consider Allison Henry for the Alternate Seat on the board. I have watched Ms. Henry's dedication to making rents in Pasadena fare and sustainable - for both the renter and land lord. Dear city council,
I am writing in today to voice strong opposition to the following applicants being appointed to the Rental Housing board:
- Terry Tornek
-Simon Gibbons
-TylerWerrin
These applicants have actively worked against Measure H, whether by being plaintiffs in the lawsuit against Measure H or writing articles in active opposition to Measure H.
How can we trust these members to act in good faith of a board created by a measure they actively and vocally opposed? The Rent Board can include residents who did not support Measure H, but it should not include individuals who sued the city to overturn the will of the voters with specious claims about unconstitutionality.
Tenants and renters in Pasadena have a right to a rental housing board that understands the issues that tenants are facing and for that board to be composed of members who will implement Article XVIII of the City Charter in good faith.
Thank you,
Raquel Calderon

Dear City Council,
I am a renter and a longtime resident of district 3.1 ask that Brandon Lamar be appointed to the Rent Board. I supported Brandon Lamar in the last election, and I hoped that he would become our city council member when the opportunity arose. Now I hope that you will appoint him to the Rent Board.
Mr. Lamarisa very dedicated member of the districts community. He knows our community, he serves our community, he works to make our community a better place, and he will be an excellent person to represent district 3 on the Rent Board.
The Rent Board is a big step forward in protecting renters in Pasadena. Please do not weaken the Rent Board by placing wealthy landlords or politicians who receive campaign money from special interest groups. Greed for money has terribly hurt our city already, and it is time to put a stop to it.

To whom it may concern,
I am writing in regards to the Pasadena Housing Board vote. I believe it is important to have tenants, renters, and homeowners who understand the issues that tenants are facing in Pasadena. The city needs board members who have acted, and will continue to act, in good faith. Rent board members should be people committed to successful implementation and enforcement of the provisions in Article XVIII of the city charter, not people who are looking for ways to make it fail.
I am opposed to several of these individuals who personally joined the California Apartment Associations lawsuit against the City of Pasadena to stop the implementation of Measure H, and therefore were not apart of it before, nor do they currently have, the best interests of actual Pasadena renters in mind. I do not support a Rent Board that includes any residents that sued the city to overturn the will of the voters with suspicious claims about unconstitutionality.
I am AGAINST the following applicants - Simon Gibbons, Tyler Werrin, and Terry Tornek.
Terry especially so, as he literally took campaign contributions from group funding of the lawsuit for his own personal mayor campaign. I find this incredibly inappropriate.
Thank you for your time.

Hi my name is Angelique Cerniglia
and my address is Pasadena ca 91104 and im a District 3 resident. Id like to support Allison Henry in all the help, guidance and patience she has shown myself and my husband Tim Trent.
We are residents here at the complex where Allison lives as well and if it wasnt for all the knowledge and help she gave us with our landlord we never would have gotten what was rightfully ours in terms of rent amount $ and the rollback etc.
She literally helped us every step of the way with any questions and concerns we had as it (as long as it took she was there for us) was a bit confusing because the amount of what the rollback was suppose to be and then what the landlord owed us in refunds as well but if it wasnt for her help we never would have known what to do and what our rights were.
She also helped everyone here at our complex who had questions as well. She really went above and beyond to help each and everyone of us.
Thanks so much,
Angelique Cerniglia

Dear Pasadena City Council Members,
Our message today is simple: We urge you to appoint candidates who understand the issues tenants face in the City to the Pasadena Rental Housing Board (PRHB).
We are proud renters of District 3, and we are in full support of the Pasadena Fair and Equitable Housing Charter Amendment—even though the provisions of the charter amendment do not apply to us because the building we reside in was built after 1995. We know that limiting rent increases and evictions will strengthen the City of Pasadena and make it a model community that works for ALL.
We support Brandon Lamar's candidacy to represent District 3 on the PRHB. He has proven time and time again that he cares for our community and that he is committed to the people of the City of Pasadena.
Furthermore, we implore you to not appoint bad faith candidates who have tried and failed, through lawsuits and funded campaigns, to overturn the democratic will of the people. Simon Gibbons, TylerWerrin, and Terry Tornek must not be appointed to the PRHB; their actions have proven that they are anti-tenant applicants.
Like the majority of the voters who democratically voted in favor of the Pasadena Fair and Equitable Housing Charter Amendment, we stand for a Pasadena for ALL—one that believes that tenants of diverse socio-economic backgrounds deserve to call this city home.
Sincerely,
Allison Lebow

Dear Mayor Gordo and Council members,
It is important that those selected to sen/e on the Rent Control Board can be counted on to implement Measure H in a diligent and fair manner.
We at MHH are concerned that three landlords who sided with the California Apartment Association in a lawsuit against the City-Simon Gibbons, Tyler Werrin and Ahni Dodge-turned in applications. While we have no problem with the city appointing fair-minded landlords to the Board, we feel that these applicants should not be selected since they have demonstrated their belief that Measure H is not legal.
However, we support applicants who are knowledgeable about Measure H and are deeply committed to the cause of tenants, such as Brandon Lamar and Ryan Bell.

Hello,
My name is Margaret Golonka and I live in District 4. For district 4, I wholeheartedly SUPPORT Robert Escobedo's nomination to the Rental Board. Mr. Escobedo was in the District 4 community knocking on doors to talk about why he is a good fit for the Rental Board and to ask for signatures for his petition to join. After hearing from him directly, I personally signed his petition because I believe he would be a great candidate fo the Rental board.
For the at-large member nominations, I support the nominations of Peter Dreier, Thea Orozco, Arnold Siegel, and Ira West.
I support them because it is important to have tenants, renters, or homeowners who understand the issues that tenants are facing in Pasadena, which these candidates do. Representation of tenants in city government is very important since this rent board will be the first chance for the majority of the population of the city tenants to have a say in their housing conditions.
That being said, I firmly OPPOSE the nominations of Ahni Dodge, Simon Gibbons, TylerWerrin, and Terry Tornek to the Rental Board. Ms. Dodge, Mr. Gibbons, and Mr. Werrin personally joined the California Apartment Association's lawsuit against the City of Pasadena to stop the implementation of Measure H. The lawsuit sought to overturn the will of the voters and caused delays in the appointment of the Rent Board.
Additionally, Mr. Tornek actively campaigned against Measure H and took campaign contributions from the group funding the lawsuit for his Mayor campaign. Because Measure H was passed by the support of 53.8% of voters, it is important that the Rental Board is staffed by members who will ensure that the will of the voters is honored, not purposely sabotaged.
Best,
Margaret Golonka

Hello,
I am writing in favor ofAllison Henry's appointment as an alternate tenant on the rental board. I have known Allison for several years and we worked alongside at United Way's Everyone In campaign. Through this work, we collaborated on and passed housing, homelessness, and renter protection policies throughout the San Gabriel Valley.
Allison understands the nuances of tenant laws and protections throughout the state through and through. She has had to advocate for herself, her neighbors, and her friends who are renters and in the process has developed an unprecedented amount of knowledge and passion on the subject. As a result, she is regarded as a tenants' rights expert not just in Pasadena, but in the San Gabriel Valley and throughout LA County.
Allison demonstrates an unwavering commitment to public duty and would perform her duties on the tenants board with diligence and passion.
I strongly encourage you all to appoint Allison to this position.
Thank you,

Good morning,
As a Pasadena renter of several years, I am writing to strongly oppose appointing Simon Gibbons and Anhi Dodge to at-large seats on the new Rental Housing Board.
Not only are they landlords, which inherently conflicts with the mission of this board to oversee rent control, eviction protections, relocation assistance and other tenant protections- these individuals actively participated in unscrupulous legal attempts to block the will of the voters of Pasadena.
Pasadena residents voted for Measure H because we know renters need protection from unscrupulous landlords.
If these individuals deliberately attempted to overturn a voter mandate, there can be no question that if they were allowed to be on this board they would continue to try to subvert its mission and to promote their interests over those of your constituents for whom this law was designed.
Thank you,
K. Eisenhauer

Dear Mayor Gordo and City Councilmembers:
My name is Lee Kane and I am the Program Director for the San Gabriel Valley Consortium on Homelessness, writing in strong support of your appointment of Allison Henry as an alternate to the tenant seat on your Pasadena Rental Board.
The mission of the San Gabriel Valley Consortium on Homelessness is to educate, collaborate, and advocate to end homelessness in the San Gabriel Valley. We are made up of nearly 2,000 stakeholders from throughout the region including nonprofit service providers, faith communities, educators, healthcare professionals, businesses, city and county staff, and elected officials. We have worked with Allison on issues impacting homelessness and housing for years. Allison has sat on panels for our monthly meetings and we have always found her to be knowledgeable and a strong advocate for housing and homeless prevention who is well-informed regarding legislation and services to protect renters, especially when they are facing evictions.
Ms. Henry has served her community for years, helping tenants, educating people about the tenant struggle, doing free tenant clinics and workshops, trying to hold landlords to the law, and helping draft Pasadena's Measure H. Allison has worked tirelessly to help her neighbors and other community members remain a community part of Pasadena, using resources and legal protections. Allison is trustworthy and has experience serving her community, reading staff reports, and assisting in implementing Measure H with integrity. Ms. Henry also served on the housing task force created by the mayor to work on the housing element.
Allison is well-connected to the community and leads a full life in Pasadena and beyond. She is a board member of Garfield Heights Neighborhood Association, an avid greyhound owner (servant really, she runs the house), a tenant and housing advocate, and a social person who loves her local friends.
I went through the Southern California Association of Government (SCAG) Housing Leadership Academy with Allison. She had expert knowledge on issues impacting housing, especially as it concerned Pasadena. In addition, Allison has been a trusted resource for information and services for renters in my town ofClaremont.
Allison Henry is a valuable resource to the region, but especially to her city of Pasadena. She would be a strong addition to your Pasadena Rental Board.
Sincerely,
Lee Kane

Hello,
I am an Assistant Professor of English at Pasadena City College, and I am writing a letter of support for Allison Henry's nomination to be on the Pasadena Rental Board.
She has been a dedicated and informed advocate for fair rent and housing in the San Gabriel Valley. Her voice will be invaluable on this board.
I was on the Low Income Student Committee at Pasadena City College, and I met Allison at a meeting about the dire rental situation for Californians during COVID. She spoke about the need to spend the word about the emergency laws passed to protect renters.
I was so impressed with the depth of Allison's knowledge about the laws and the situation facing renters that I asked her to come speak to Pasadena City College students. She volunteered her time and energy to come and present to students and staff about the Housing is Key programs. We met several times to prepare for this presentation and the more I got to know her, I realized that housing was not a job for her but a passion. She has worked tirelessly to understand all sides of the housing crisis we face in California, and particularly in the Los Angeles region. She is a wealth of knowledge and compassion.
She also invited me to the San Gabriel Valley Tenants Alliance meeting. I attended one, and I could see how well respected she was within the alliance and how informed and articulate she was about the laws protecting renters and the needs and struggles of renters in her community. She listens to the people in her community and cares about their livelihood. She advocates for them and is willing to speak up for them and assist them in their struggles. I know no better person to be a member of this board.
Thank you for your consideration of Allison Henry. I know she will be a dedicated advocate for the people of Pasadena.
Thank you!

today's meeting re: the Rental Housing Board

Hello Tyron,
I hope you are having a great week so far! I'm not sure I can attend the meeting today, so I'm writing this email to you.
I am vehemently opposed to appointing the candidates who sued to stop Measure H to the Rental Housing Board. To appoint them would be like appointing coyotes to be security for a chicken coop. The landlords who joined the lawsuit to stop measure 1-1 are clearly opposed to the law and will hinder the function of the Rental Board. I'm also opposed to Terry Tornek being appointed, given his active opposition to Measure H. No one who actively opposed the measure (and now the law) should be considered as a viable candidate for the board. It's unbelievable to me that the four candidates in question would put their names in for consideration as board members. They've already demonstrated their contempt for Measure H and rent control and should not be allowed to influence the implementation of something they actively opposed. This is just one more tactic that they are employing to defeat the purpose of Measure H.
I'm not sure what the procedure is going to be, but I encourage you to vote against the appointment of Terry Tornek, Ahni Dodge, Simon Gibbons, and Tyler Werrin. Thank you.
Sincerely,
Colin Bogart

Dear Council,
I was disheartened to learn that three people who sued to block Measure H — Simon Gibbons, Ahni Dodge, and Tyler Werrin — have applied to join the Rental Housing Board that will be guiding its administration and enforcement. As a member of Pasadena's Throop Church, I know that many in its congregation feel similarly.
I respectfully ask that no one who has attempted to stop this important measure be allowed on its board. I do not believe that they would execute their duties in good faith, undermining the will of the voters who backed Measure H.
Thank you for your consideration,
Jake Hartman

Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing today to express my support forAllison Henry's nomination to the Rental Board for Pasadena.
Allison Henry has given thousands of hours over the years to tenants and towards the eventual adoption of rent control in this city. She has worked with tenants facing unlawful evictions, and other tenant/landlord disputes before, during, and after the Covid 19 Pandemic. She has educated tenants on their rights, assisted tenants with necessary paperwork, connected them with available resources, and even gone with distressed tenants to court. As the founder of the San Gabriel Valley Tenants' Association, Allison has educated herself and gained expert knowledge on Pasadena's and several surrounding cities' Housing Element.
Allison has been tireless in her efforts helping tenants in disputes with landlords, as well as serving as a board member on the Garfield Heights Neighborhood Association.
I know all this because I have been Allison's partner since 2007 when Allison moved to Pasadena. I've seen her in action and seen first hand her dedication and perseverance. She's a sqeaky wheel that gets it done.
Yes to Allison Henry.
Yes to Pasadena.
