Hi,
Please find attached my public comment for the August 1, 2023 Pasadena Legislative Policy Committee meeting, regarding bill H.R. 3681. Although not on the agenda, my understanding from last night's city council meeting is that the item will be taken up at today's committee meeting.

Thanks,
Yadi

1 I support Pasadena City Council and the Legislative Policy Committee to submit a letter in support of H.R. 3681 (Chu) San Gabriel Mountains Protection Act, which will expand the area covered under the San Gabriel Mountains National Monument to include the western Angeles National Forest and will designate an additional 30,000 acres as protected wilderness and 45.5 miles of protected rivers in southern California.1 This will help raise awareness of local recreation, improve access, increase management resources towards supporting the stewardship of the monument.

The proposed expanded area will include parts of our local trails and mountains including Eaton Canyon Falls, Altadena Crest, Henninger Flats, Millard Falls, Echo Mountain, Mt. Lowe and areas east of Angeles Crest Highway. Furthermore, these outdoor areas were crucial and extremely popular amenities to the public during the pandemic,2 and have continued in popularity since. The recent rains have also significantly damaged some of the trails within the proposed expanded area and additional resources to help with the upkeep and maintenance would be most welcome.

I personally try to enjoy this awesome natural resource by either walking, running, or hiking these trails as frequently as I can. Please support H.R. 3681.
