Pasadena City Council
100 N Garfield Ave,
Pasadena, CA 91109
Subject: Urgent Request to name Robinson Pool in Honor of Councilmember John J. Kennedy Dear Members of the Pasadena City Council,
I hope this letter finds you in good health and high spirits. I am writing to you today as a concerned citizen of Pasadena who wishes to propose a significant and well-deserved tribute to the late District 3 councilmember, John J. Kennedy. I urge the Pasadena City Council to consider naming the Robinson Pool, which underwent remarkable renovations due to Councilmember Kennedy's relentless efforts, as the "John J. Kennedy Pool." Councilmember Kennedy's dedication and tireless work to secure the necessary funds for the renovation are unparalleled.
He demonstrated exceptional leadership and remarkable commitment to serving the residents of District 3. Understanding the importance of public amenities, Councilmember Kennedy tirelessly advocated for improvements to the Robinson Pool, which has since become an invaluable recreational space used by residents of all ages.
John J. Kennedy's legacy of community service and his invaluable contributions to Pasadena deserve to be recognized in a profound manner. By renaming the Robinson Pool after him, the community will honor his memory and inspire future generations to follow in his footsteps of public service.
The renaming of the Robinson Pool represents more than a gesture of tribute; it symbolizes the City Council's commitment to acknowledge and celebrate those individuals who have gone above and beyond to create a positive impact on our community. Councilmember Kennedy's selflessness and unwavering dedication make him a worthy honoree, and his legacy will continue to inspire current and future community leaders.
I kindly request that the Pasadena City Council consider my proposal to name the Robinson Pool as the "John J. Kennedy Pool" in recognition of Councilmember Kennedy's outstanding contributions. By doing so, the City Council will not only honor an exceptional individual but also demonstrate its commitment to recognizing the contributions of public servants and inspiring future generations.
I am confident that you will give careful consideration to this earnest request and make the decision that best serves the community's interests. I respectfully await a positive response from the City Council.
Thank you for your time and attention to this matter.
Sincerely,
Brandon D. Lamar 8/21/2023

Dear Mayor Gordo and City Council,
I am writing in support of renaming the Villa Parke pool after Dr. Edna L. Griffin who was key in desegregating the Brookside Plunge. As someone who has used the pool at Villa Parke, I think it's an incredible opportunity to honor the legacy of Dr.
Griffin, a black female activist, doctor and President of the Pasadena NAACP. Renaming the pool in her honor shows our commitment to recognizing her labor and to underscoring equal access in public and recreational spaces.
Thank you,
Dan Huynh
