Dear members of the Municipal Services Committee,
Safety is ALWAYS appropriate.
I am a Pasadena resident who cares deeply about equity and the environment. I am writing to express support for All Ages & Abilities Greenways.
People walking and hiking in Pasadena deserve safe, comfortable spaces. We already have 50 north/south streets built to move cars. What we desperately need are a few streets that prioritize people. Drivers can still use these streets, too, but can easily keep speeds under 20 MPH on just four streets.
Most residents want to live on safe, quiet streets. In addition, we need to consider our vision for the city as a whole.
Pasadena needs a network of streets that are comfortable for people who don't drive a car, including people who are too young, too old, or too poor to drive. Plus, the climate emergency demands that we support affordable, low-carbon transportation.
The National Association of City Transportation Officials recommends that ALL bicycle facilities follow the All Ages and Abilities guidelines.
Ignoring this national best practice would be a disservice to anyone who wants safe streets. Please take this step for a more livable, more vibrant, and more equitable Pasadena.
Thank you for everything you are doing for our city.

Dear members of the Municipal Services Committee,
I am a female Pasadena resident living on N. El Molino and I care deeply about equity and the environment. I am writing to express support for All Ages & Abilities Greenways. My husband and I ride our bikes as often as possible, but when i ride alone without my husband (i am an able-bodied 36 year old woman), more than once i have been side swiped by a car or "doored" and fallen off or flipped over my bike on El Molino. It's insane that I can't ride my bike alone just down the street without getting hit by a car; i can't imagine how much worse it is for anyone less able bodied. People drive insanely fast down el molino, as if it's a racetrack, it's so unsafe and I fear for the disabled community living all around el molino and the children who walk to school and the bus stops, we deserve safer streets in our community, ive noticed people starting to ride on the sidewalk to avoid getting hit by speeding cars, which is also unsafe for people walking on the sidewalks with their children and dogs. there is just no place for bike riders to go anymore on my street.

Dear members of the Municipal Services Committee,
Pasadena's general walkability is one of the main reasons my family lives here. We walk our daughter to daycare every day via Del Mar. Unfortunately, due to signal timing, intersection, and street design that encourages speeding and prioritizes speed for motorists over safety for pedestrians and cyclists - we have a close call at least once a week.

Dear members of the Municipal Services Committee,
I am a Pasadena resident and commute daily on my bike. I do not own a car. I care deeply about equity and the environment, and I am writing to express support for All Ages & Abilities Greenways.
Every week, I have experienced at least one unsafe condition while hiking, whether due to drivers speeding, running red lights, driving within inches of my bike, or opening their doors into bike lanes. Pasadena needs to and can do better to improve safety for people who don't drive a car, including people who are too young, too old, or too poor to drive.

Dear members of the Municipal Services Committee:
I am a Pasadena resident and daily bicycle commuter from NE Pasadena to Caltech, and I am writing to express support for All Ages & Abilities Greenways.
As my daily commute continues to show, our north/south streets are built to quickly move cars, with little regard for any other form of transportation or use. I take my chances daily crossing under the freeway on the "bike lane" painted on the side of Sierra Madre Dr. I would be delighted, instead, to find a north/south street that prioritizes people rather than cars. Indeed, I would be delighted to live in a city with a network of streets that are comfortable for people who don't drive a car, including people who are too young, too old, or too poor to drive.
I have examined the All Ages and Abilities guidelines recommended by the National Association of City Transportation Officials, and the approach seems clear, reasonable, and flexible. These designs wilt allow children, parents, grandparents, bike commuters, skateboarders, scooter rides and all to share the road with cars by reducing car speeds below 20 mph. By having even just 4 such north/south routes in Pasadena we would already be the beginning of a functional network throughout Pasadena.
When I talk to others in the city about commuting by bike - something forwhich our climate is uniquely suited - the most common complaint is that people feel that the streets are not safe for them. If we are to have a hope of reducing car dependence and its deleterious effect on the environment, we desperately need safe corridors for all. Following the All Ages & Abilities guidelines on the Greenways will allow us to begin to move in this positive direction.
As an aside, and as a faculty member at Cattech, I also fully support the Wilson for All Greenway. Connecting Caltech by Wilson to the Union and Cordova bike lines provides viable and safe transportation alternatives critical to the campus and to the city.
Thank you for everything you are doing for our city.

Hi there! We are Pasadena Residents in District Two, and we love the idea ofgreenways and fully support a full implementation on all four streets! Getting around Pasadena by foot, bike, bus, and light rail is so much more preferable to automobile, not to mention cheaper for us and the city, with lots of benefits for our environment. We love the Union Cycleway and the commercial offerings on Colorado, but it feels so far away and dangerous when we have to figure our way around the 210. The greenways on Wilson and Sierra Bonita, in particular, would be lovely for us to use for these and a myriad of other trips. As we look towards growing our family in Pasadena, the all-abilities bike infrastructure is so important to us. We look forward to seeing Pasadena be a climate and car-free mobility leader now and into the future, and beautiful greenways on these four (and hopefully more) Streets! Andrew &Jenna Cobb

Subject: MSC - Agenda 2 -1 support AA&A Greenways
Dear members of the Municipal Services Committee,
I am a Pasadena resident, and I am writing to express support for All Ages & Abilities Greenways. I live on Craig Avenue and use it to get to work by bike, but I am not exaggerating when I say I am afraid for my safety every time a driver approaches me on the road. I have been cursed out, honked at, and driven to the side of the road by aggressive drivers just for trying to make my daily commute in a sustainable way. Protected bike paths on North-South roads would be life- changing, and potentially life-saving.
We already have 50 north/south streets built to move cars. What we desperately need are a few streets that prioritize people. Drivers can still use these streets, too, but can easily keep speeds under 20 MPH on just four streets. Craig Avenue in particular already has some signs that declare "bike path," but nobody treats it that way unless there is actual infrastructure to support it and protect people on bikes.
