Dear members of the Municipal Services Committee,
Safety is ALWAYS appropriate.
I am a Pasadena resident who cares deeply about equity and the environment. I am writing to express support for All Ages & Abilities Greenways.
People walking and hiking in Pasadena deserve safe, comfortable spaces. We already have 50 north/south streets built to move cars. What we desperately need are a few streets that prioritize people. Drivers can still use these streets, too, but can easily keep speeds under 20 MPH on just four streets.
Most residents want to live on safe, quiet streets. In addition, we need to consider our vision for the city as a whole.
Pasadena needs a network of streets that are comfortable for people who don't drive a car, including people who are too young, too old, or too poor to drive. Plus, the climate emergency demands that we support affordable, low-carbon transportation.
The National Association of City Transportation Officials recommends that ALL bicycle facilities follow the All Ages and Abilities guidelines.
Ignoring this national best practice would be a disservice to anyone who wants safe streets. Please take this step for a more livable, more vibrant, and more equitable Pasadena.
Thank you for everything you are doing for our city.

I am writing to express support for the All Ages & Abilities Greenways initiative. I'm a Pasadena resident and I ride my bike daily commuting from my home at 1916 Wagner St to the Jet Propulsion Lab. This is currently a hair raising experience due to the high speed of drivers on many of Pasadena's excessively wide streets. If/when these greenways are completed I will likely use either/both Sierra Bonita or Craig for this ride.
I moved to Pasadena from Seattle Washington where most municipal streets have 20 mph or less speed limits in addition to traffic calming measures. Let me tell you these are great! Whether you're a cyclist, a driver, a homeowner, or just someone walking through the neighborhood it's just a wonderful experience. I encourage the city of Pasadena to take similar traffic calming measures.
You shouldn't have to "feel crazy" to ride your bike through the neighborhood or go for a walk to the park. Yet, with today's infrastructure in Pasadena that's exactly how I feel. Drivers do not stop or obey the traffic laws here. They speed. They run stop signs without looking. We need more traffic calming measures to protect vulnerable road users from these yahoos. -Harvey

Dear members of the Municipal Services Committee,
I am a frequent visitor to Pasadena who cares deeply about equity and the environment. I currently use transit or cycle to visit Pasadena for shopping and entertainment. I am writing to express support for All Ages & Abilities Greenways.
People walking and hiking in Pasadena deserve safe, comfortable spaces. The City already has 50 north/south streets built to move cars. What it desperately needs are a few streets that prioritize people. Drivers can stilt use these streets, too, but can easily keep speeds under 20 MPH on just four streets.
Most residents and visitors want to live and walk on safe, pedestrian-friendly streets. In addition, there needs to be a consideration of the vision for the city as a whole. Pasadena needs a network of streets that are comfortable for people who don't drive a car, including people who are too young, too old, or too poor to drive. Plus, the climate emergency demands that we support affordable, low-carbon transportation.

Subject: Bike safety in Pasadena
Hello Mr. Stevenson and the Pasadena City Council,
I am a Pasadena resident and I commute by bike dailyto save money and energy. I am emailingtodayto express my strong support for safe walking and bikingconditionsfor EVERYONE in Pasadena. I feel far more unsafe as a biker and pedestrian in Pasadena than anywhere else I have ever lived (including other big cities like Chicago and Seattle). As a city that is committed in other ways to sustainability and high quality of life—not to mention a place that gets good weather almost every day of the year—Pasadena is a perfect candidate to become a safe and accessible city for bikers and pedestrians. I am asking that the Greenways are designed and built following the NACTO All Ages and Abilities Guidelines.
The All Ages and Abilities Greenways project is supported by fifteen Pasadena organizations, including the school board of PUSD and the NAACP, whose support emphasizes that this project would make Pasadena safer for everyone, including young students on their way to and from school. We ask that MSC Listens to these community priorities.
Thankyou foryour attention to this urgent issue!
Sincerely,
Hannah Dion-Kirschner

Subject: MSC - Agenda 2 - Local business supports AA&A Greenways Dear members of the Municipal Services Committee,
I own a bike-related business that I'm hoping will open soon on Colorado Ave adjacent to the proposed greenway on Craig Ave.
I'm very excited about the potential of the greenway to bring more bike riders to my business and more importantly the calming impact it will have on traffic in the area which is currently a bit of a menace to the pedestrians and cyclists in the immediate area.
I hope the committee takes into consideration the positive impact that these greenways can have when done correctly on reducing the demand for street parking and greatly decreasing the risk of injuries or fatalities to our most vulnerable road users. I'm convinced that slower streets built around pedestrians and cyclists are also a huge boon for the local retail businesses that are the heart of Pasadena's economy. The more that we can make shopping an enjoyable experience for local residents by improving walkability and accessibility for bike riders, the greater an edge local businesses have over online retailers.
Thank you,
-Alex Krafcik

Dear members of the Municipal Services Committee,
Streets Are For Everyone (SAFE), a non-profit dedicated to making streets safer for everyone in Southern California, is pleased to support the All Ages & Abilities Greenways project to make Pasadena streets safer.
People living, working, walking and cycling in Pasadena deserve safe, comfortable spaces when getting around town. There are already 50 north/south streets built to move cars. But what Pasadena lacks are more streets that prioritize people. Drivers can still use these streets, too, but can easily keep speeds under 20 MPH on just four streets.
Most residents want to live on safe, quiet streets. In addition, they need and want a vision for the city as a whole. Pasadena is a highly desirable city to live in for many reasons. It offers a variety of quaint neighborhoods on pretty tree-lined streets with gorgeous views of the San Gabriel Mountains and toads of great cultural offerings. But as populations boom and cars get bigger and faster, even city life in a place as beautiful as Pasadena has gotten busy, hectic and nerve wracking to drive in and around, not to mention walk and bike. In addition, engineering streets to make them comfortable for people who don't drive a car, including people who are too young, too old, or too poor to drive, creates a more livable, vibrant community and less polluted streets.
Ignoring this national best practice would be a disservice to anyone who wants safe streets in Pasadena.
Sincerely,
Damian Kevitt

Dear Councilmembers,
I am a Pasadena property owner and business owner. I'm also chairperson of the Environmental Advisory Commission.
I support Greenway's as put forward by the Complete Streets Coalition. I would like to see more bike infrastructure generally. Bravo for the Union St. bike lanes. Very nice.
I support the concept of implementing NACTO's All Ages and Abilities criteria encourages useage by children, seniors and people with disabilities. These are national and international best practices and should be adopted for all bike facility design and network implementation.
Adopting this Greenway's resolution is an easy way to implement the Pasadena's General Plan and Climate Action Plan goals at the same time. The general plan requires an integrated and multimodal transportation system that provides choices and accessibility for everyone.
The 2018 Climate Action Plan sets specific targets for reducing emissions by encouraging more trips by bike and walking. The Greenways is a simple and relatively inexpensive way to achieve all of these goals.
Thank you
David Cutter
