Dear members of the Municipal Services Committee,
Safety is ALWAYS appropriate.
I am a Pasadena resident who lives by CalTech, who cares deeply about equity and the environment. I am writing to express support for All Ages and Abilities Greenways.
People walking and hiking in Pasadena deserve safe, comfortable spaces. We already have 50 north/south streets built to move cars. What we desperately need are a few streets that prioritize people. Drivers can still use these streets, too, but can easily keep speeds under 20 MPH on just four streets.
The National Association of City Transportation Officials recommends that ALL bike facilities follow the All Ages and Abilities guidelines.
Ignoring this national best practice would be a disservice to anyone who wants safe streets. Please take this step for a more livable, more vibrant, and more equitable Pasadena.
Thank you for everything you are doing for our city.

Dear members of the Municipal Services Committee,
I am writing to express my enthusiastic support for the proposed All Ages & Abilities Greenways. My family and I frequently bike for transportation in Pasadena and often use Craig and Wilson, in particular, to access school, shopping, restaurants, and other destinations in the city. Pasadena needs a network of streets that are comfortable for people who don't drive a car, including people who are too young, too old, or too poor to drive.
Enabling more people to choose affordable, healthy low-carbon transportation alternatives is essential if we are to address the climate emergency. According to the California Air Resources Board, we must reduce vehicle miles driven 25% by 2030, even as we also transition to EVs. A safe bicycle network is an important step toward a sustainable future.
Pasadena needs to lead on this issue.
The Greenways should follow the All Ages and Abilities (AAA) guidelines established by the National Association of City Transportation Officials (NACTO). Ignoring this national best practice would be a disservice to all who want safe streets.
Please take this step for a more livable, more vibrant, more sustainable, and more equitable Pasadena. Thank you for everything you are doing for Pasadena.

Dear members of the Municipal Services Committee,
I'm expressing my support for the All Ages & Abilities Greenways.
As a temporarily able-bodied person who commutes to work and to Old Pasadena by bike, I've often wished we had more north-south routes that are quieter and safer for all road users, regardless of number of wheels.
Please help us redefine a more livable, more vibrant, and more equitable Pasadena.

People walking and hiking in Pasadena deserve safe, comfortable spaces. We already have 50 north/south streets built for cars. What we desperately need are a few streets that prioritize people. Drivers can still use these streets, too, but can easily keep speeds under 20 MPH on just four streets.
Safe streets are ALWAYS "appropriate" and "plausible". Simple traffic calming measures like speed cushions can be added ANYWHERE on a bicycle boulevard to make it slower and safer. It is not "appropriate" to ask children to ride in a street with 30 MPH traffic! It is not "plausible" for most riders to use a street with fast cars. Please ask DOT staff to stop making excuses for bad design.
In particular, as a resident of San Pasqual adjacent to Caltech and an employee of Caltech, I would like to highlight the Wilson For All petition for the Wilson Avenue Greenway.
Over 200 Caltech students, faculty, and staff have signed the Wilson For All petition at wilson4all.org , supporting the Wilson Avenue Greenway, and asking for this Greenway to use best practices to make it as safe and bike-friendly as possible. Wilson Avenue is used by a large number of Caltech students who walk and bike to campus. Please make the design for this street as safe as possible! Wilson Avenue needs to follow the All Ages and Abilities guidelines to protect these students.
Caltech owns property on both sides ofWilson Ave, including two large parking garages and student housing. And yet, there are no mid-block crosswalks to connect these properties with the rest of campus, making jaywalking a common practice on this street. Please add a mid-block crosswalk in front of the Catalina apartments, and use raised crosswalks or other traffic calming to make this street as pedestrian friendly and safe as possible.
In a survey, 70% of respondents reported personally experiencing a dangerous situation on Wilson Ave, such as having a near miss with a car, or swerving to avoid being hit by a car door.
The National Association of City Transportation Officials recommends that ALL bike facilities follow the All Ages and Abilities guidelines. Ignoring this engineering best practice would be a disservice to everyone traveling outside of a car. Please take this step for a more livable, more vibrant, and more equitable Pasadena.
Thank you for everything you are doing for our city.

Kate Malecek

Hi all,
As someone who grew up in Pasadena having to rely on needing to have a car to do everything things, I know that there is opportunity to make this beautiful city even better by transforming streets to be more people- and movement- friendly. I am now a resident of neighboring La Crescenta (still frequently go to Pasadena), and I am writing to express support for All Ages and Abilities Greenways.

To members of the Municipal Services Committee,
I live in Altadena, but I often ride down Marengo Street to get to Pasadena, especially the A Line train (formerly the Gold Line). I'm impressed with what Pasadena is doing on parts of Marengo to create safe streets, with the traffic calming to make neighborhood biking and walking more safe. Keep those efforts up! Thank you.

I am a Pasadena resident who cares deeply about equity and the environment.

Dear members of the Municipal Services Committee,
Safety is ALWAYS appropriate.
I visit Pasadena by bike to get to events, shops, and restaurants. I am writing to express support for All Ages & Abilities Greenways.

Most residents want to live on safe, quiet streets. In addition, we need to consider our vision for the city as a whole.
Pasadena needs a network of streets that are comfortable for people who don't drive a car, including people who are too young, too old, or too poor to drive. Plus, the climate emergency demands that we support affordable, low-carbon transportation.

Dear members of the Municipal Services Committee,
I am writing to express support and need for All Ages & Abilities Greenways in Pasadena. While I live in Altadena, I depend on the safe routes to get me to transit and bicycle on the streets of Pasadena and to also frequent businesses withe City. Last week I attended an event hosted by Active SGV - Pasadena Complete Streets Coalition. I normally take Raymond as I live in West Altadena and it is a relatively quiet street, direct street for transit. Each time I have to navigate the cracked concrete roadway and debris in the Class 2 bike lane which can be daunting and the blind intersection such as the tragic intersection hit and run collision involved at least two of my Altadena neighbors. Now an Altadena youth who attends Blair HS is now orphaned without a mother. Raymond should be included in your plans as a Neighborhood Greenway corridor for people walking and biking. It connects us to many community resources such as the park, a library and to schools all at once transit itself is shaded with many mature trees. Raymond is not immune to loss of life and violence, and must deserves priority for equitable health and safety outcomes People walking and hiking in Pasadena deserve safe, comfortable spaces. Subject: All Ages and Abilities Greenways/ safe neighborhood streets Dear members of the Municipal Services Committee,
Thank you for all you do for the city and for the larger community in our area.
My husband works at Caltech and bikes daily from South Pasadena where we live and where our four children go to school. We can be a one-car family because he bikes to work. (That is one less car on the road.) I am writing to express support for the All Ages and Abilities Greenways, because I want to make sure that his bike route is as safe as possible.
My children also all ride bikes and scooters, and two of the kids have participated in strenuous bike camps. My middle schooler often bikes into Pasadena. It is challenging to find safe city streets where the kids can bike comfortably and safely, and where my seven-year-old, as a new bike rider, can gain experience riding a bike while feeling (and being) safe on quiet streets.
Additionally, as a driver, even though I support bike riding and realize that a person on a bike represents one less car, and deserves as much safety as me in my car, I worry about the riders and feel stressed by riders on the city streets as I drive. I wish there were streets prioritized for bike riding and pedestrians so that drivers are not slowed down, and crowded by bike riders in the driving lanes. This is dangerous and stressful for everyone involved.
In supporting this initiative to make the greenways safer for everyone, I take my lead from the National Association of City Transportation Officials which recommends that ALL bike facilities follow the All Ages and Abilities guidelines.
Thank you for all you do and for your consideration.
Sincerely,
Aviva Zierler

I am a resident of South Pasadena with a 14 year old son who is always wanting to ride bikes with his friends to Pasadena. I have been very hesitant to let them do this thanks to the insufficient safe bike paths. As such I writing to express strong support for All Ages & Abilities Greenways.
Thank you for co soldering all ages and abilities when planning for the safest possible enhancements on our streets.

Municipal Services Committee,
The Greenways is the best project Ive heard about in a while. Sounds like its taking a small portion of the roadway and giving it to people to use, people of all ages and abilities. As someone who cant always use a car, this type of planning for the City is a huge step forward in creating equitable space.
And if you've ever been on a street that has facilities like this, everyone wins - the speed of cars is slower, the noise pollution from cars is way down, so is the air pollution, and overall, it becomes a PLACE to be - families start to come out, and people of all ages use the street. Its amazing. And honestly, a no-brainer for making a better city.
Thanks for pushing this great project forward!
Mike

Dear Council Members,
I would like to support Pasadena's efforts to develop the All Ages Greenways. I cycle to work in Pasadena every day and have really appreciated the new bike paths along Marengo and Union. I very much hope that this network can be developed further, so that I would also feel comfortable to let my son cycle the Pasadena streets.
Thank you for your efforts in this matter!
Best wishes,
Frederick Eberhardt

Dear members of the Municipal Services Committee,
I moved to Pasadena under the perception that it is a walkable city, however, each time I walk to spend money at a local establishment, I encounter near misses with cars, both in broad daylight and evenings when walking with a flashlight.
Data shows more walkable streets increase retail sales.
