Dear members of the Municipal Services Committee,
Safety is ALWAYS appropriate.
I am a Pasadena resident who cares deeply about equity and the environment. In addition, I cycle to work daily, but I am passed uncomfortably closely and by fast moving cars on a near weekly basis. I have found that the newly installed protected bike lane along Union street has significantly improved the safety of my commute, and I hope that it can be coupled with similar equal North/South protected bike lanes, to make cycling (or scooters, board, walking etc.) safer and more accessible for all Pasadena residents.
This motivates me to write expressing my support for All Ages & Abilities Greenways.
People walking and hiking in Pasadena deserve safe, comfortable spaces. We already have 50 north/south streets built to move cars. What we desperately need are a few streets that prioritize people. Drivers can still use these streets, too, but can easily keep speeds under 20 MPH on just four streets.
Most residents want to live on safe, quiet streets. In addition, we need to consider our vision for the city as a whole.
Pasadena needs a network of streets that are comfortable for people who don't drive a car, including people who are too young, too old, or too poor to drive. Plus, the climate emergency demands that we support affordable, low-carbon transportation.
The National Association of City Transportation Officials recommends that ALL bicycle facilities follow the All Ages and Abilities guidelines.
Ignoring this national best practice would be a disservice to anyone who wants safe streets. Please take this step for a more livable, more vibrant, and more equitable Pasadena.
Thank you for everything you are doing for our city.
Best,
Christian Johansen

Dear members of the Municipal Services Committee,
I'm sending this (templated below) message because I'm a huge walking/bikingfan and I heard there was some discussion of Greenway improvements today. For myself, I'm %1 00 for these Ail Ages and Abilities measures and I hope that you all will follow this route.
Best,

Dear members of the Municipal Services Committee,
Safety is ALWAYS appropriate.
As a Caltech graduate student and a Pasadena resident who cares deeply about equity and the environment, I am writing to express support for All Ages & Abilities Greenways.
People walking and hiking in Pasadena deserve safe, comfortable spaces. As someone who walks and jogs regularly for work and recreation, the quality of our streets for pedestrians and cyclists directly translates to the quality of my experience of living and working in Pasadena, and I imagine that many others feel the same way. We already have 50 north/south streets built to move cars. What we desperately need are a few streets that prioritize people. Drivers can still use these streets, too, but can easily keep speeds under 20 MPH on just four streets.

Dear members of the Municipal Services Committee,
Safety is ALWAYS appropriate.
I live on El Molino Ave and I bike to work as regularly as I can. I am writing to express support for All Ages & Abilities Greenways.
My commute requires sharing the road with cars, which can feel unsafe even for an able-bodied adult. There is also frequently broken glass and other hazards on the side of the road that are a direct result of the automobile traffic. This is also an equity issue: a lack of safe hiking and pedestrian routes disproportionately affect women, children, elderly, impoverished and the differently-abled.

Dear members of the Municipal Services Committee,
Safety is ALWAYS appropriate.
My 92-yr old father is a Pasadena resident who was hit by a passing car's sideview mirror while riding his bicycle westbound on
Colorado Blvd. just east of Michillinda Ave. last week. Sent him flying into a ditch. Luckily, his injuries were not life- threatening.
Attached is a telling photo of his injured elbow.
He and I care deeply about equity and the environment. We are writing to express support for All Ages & Abilities Greenways.
