is not a primary focus, prevention efforts are performed when conducting outreach, and responded to questions.

Acting Director Carmona shared that the Public Health Department conducted a formal assessment of the various community-based organizations that offer services in youth development, violence prevention, intervention, and interruption. He added that staff will begin to assess city-based services to learn where a funding opportunity may fill gaps in service.

Councilmember Hampton spoke in support of conducting a youth needs assessment and widely advertising and distributing information to community members regarding current services and programs available for at-risk youth. He added that investing in youth and the community is urgent work worthy of committing additional budget and funding to support. He further suggested expanding the Municipal Assistance, Solutions, and Hiring (MASH) program, and the development of a pilot program that provided paid job readiness training for at-risk youth in Pasadena.

Mr. Pickens provided information on the prior success of placing Neighborhood Outreach Workers (NOW) program participants in the MASH program. He added that it is critical to maintain a strong working relationship with the Pasadena Unified School District (PUSD), and to continue to work with young people within the gang culture in an effort to redirect them to after-school and recreation programs.

Councilmember Jones suggested expanding the Pasadena Youth Ambassadors and Realizing Opportunities through Summer
Employment (ROSE) programs to support at-risk youth with employment opportunities, and for City staff to continue to look for similar opportunities to engage at-risk youth.

Mayor Gordo spoke in support of seeking federally funded summer youth employment and training programs, adding that as an issue to the City's legislative platform, and referring the matter to the Legislative Policy Committee for discussion.

Vice Mayor Madison asked about collaboration with the Police Department and other departments, and asked staff to gather data on the number of local gang members, outside gang members, and the number of active street gangs in the City.

Acting Director Carmona stated that the relationship with the Police Department is primarily focused on data and quarterly reports on key gang data to assess the activities of the outreach team. The outreach team does not coordinate or collaborate with the Police Department, but did attend mandated reporter training, which was previously requested by the Committee.
