Dear Mayor Gordo,
I am writing you today to urge you not to adopt any biased "ceasefire" resolution that would fuel divisions and hate in our community, while harming efforts to end the horrific October 7th War.
I want an end to the fighting and suffering in Gaza and Israel, as I'm sure you do. However, biased "ceasefire" city council resolutions have been shown to have no impact on this complex conflict. In fact, what the Jewish community has witnessed is that resolutions like this actually fuel more hate towards Jews and anyone else who does not believe cities should weigh in on international issues. There are many examples of such hate, including in the Oakland and Long Beach city councils.
I feel it is important to remind you of the following:
1. A ceasefire existed on October 6 but was broken by Hamas on October 7 when they brutally attacked Israel, killing 1,200 innocent civilians and kidnapping 253 people - ranging in age from 9 months to 85 years old.
2. Israel has accepted terms laid out by international negotiators for an extended ceasefire and drastic increase in humanitarian aid to Gaza. It is Hamas that has thus far rejected such a ceasefire.
3. There would be a permanent ceasefire tomorrow if Hamas would release all hostages, lay down its arms, and allow Israelis and Palestinians to rebuild in peace and security.
The type of "ceasefire" you are being pressured to support would not bring a just or lasting peace. What it would do is help Hamas, a genocidal terrorist group, maintain its grip on power in Gaza and continue its endless war against Israel. While I do not believe municipal governments should address international affairs at all, if you choose to adopt a resolution on this issue it must include a clear call for Hamas to release all hostages and surrender now.
I know that the Pasadena City Council wants to do the right thing and bring about an end to the humanitarian crisis, but this symbolic gesture will do nothing more than bring more hate and animosity towards the Jewish community.
I urge you not to adopt a resolution and use your energy to bring people together, rather than further dividing us.
Sincerely,
Ifat Gutmans

Dear Mayor and City Councilors,
I have been deeply alarmed by the genocide occurring in Gaza. Since Oct. 7, over 38,000 people have been killed by Israeli forces. Most recently, Israel has escalated bombardment of Rafah, "the last safe zone" in Gaza where more than 1.5 million displaced Palestinians are seeking refuge.
Additionally, a majority of people in Gaza are facing starvation due to humanitarian aid being blocked with the UN warning of famine as soon as May.
It is critical that we respond firmly and strongly with a ceasefire resolution. Please join the over 70 US cities, including San Francisco, Cudahy, Oakland, and Pomona in voting for a ceasefire by voting "Yes" on the resolution introduced by Counilmember Rivas, this Monday Thank you,

Honorable Mayor Gordo:
Honorable City Council Members:
I vehemently oppose the adoption of the so-called "immediate peaceful" resolution regarding the ongoing conflict in Israel and Gaza.
Not only does the City of Pasadena not have jurisdiction over Israel and Gaza, other than inciting more hate against Israel, such a resolution will have no effect whatsoever.
The proposed resolution by Councilmember Rivas (Attachment D of the Staff Report) is also a slap in the face. Not because of what it states, but because of what it does NOT state: While the proposed resolution includes language to urge the Biden administration to send immediate entry of humanitarian assistance into Gaza, it FAILS to mention the urgent need for the immediate release of the over 100 Israeli hostages who are still being kept in subhuman conditions since October 7.
How could that have been omitted in the proposed resolution? This omission shows the true intent of such an ironic resolution!
Also, I looked at the City of Claremont's resolution that is included as a sample as part of Attachment B of the City of Pasadena's Staff report. Among other things, it states that - and I am quoting "The City Council hereby, unequivocally and without prejudice condemns terrorist acts (...)." Well, why didn't any city hold a public meeting right after October 7, 2023, before Israel started its ground operation, to pass a resolution to condemn the barbaric terrorist act by the terrorist organization Hamas that killed over 1,200 innocent Israelis?
I could not locate anything on prior City Agendas about similar resolutions. Has the City of Pasadena adopted a similar resolution to urge a stop of discrimination in China, a country that has committed crimes against humanity against the Uyghur population and other mostly-Muslim ethnic groups? Has the City of Pasadena adopted a similar resolution during the Syrian war when hundreds of thousands of innocent people were killed by the Syrian regime? How about the conflict in the Darfur region in Sudan?
Why are you singling out the conflict in Israel? This is the definition of antisemitism.
If you want to promote peace, you can't just single out one conflict. Otherwise, it's clear that there is a different intent on the agenda.
Finally: Instead of trying to get involved in a conflict thousands of miles away, the city should focus on the humanitarian crisis right outside its own doors (the Homeless Crisis that you have failed to resolve over several years).
You are spending time discussing a resolution for a ceasefire thousands of miles away, and at the same time, on Monday during the public meeting, there will be a need for heavy police presence to ensure the safety of everyone. Can you see the irony?
Stay away from the conflict in the Middle East. Please do not adopt this resolution! Thank you.

Dear Mayor Gordo,
I am writing you today in honor of Helen and Joe Freeman, who immigrated from Germany to Pasadena, after losing their entire families, surviving the holocaust and many years in Auschwitz. They were sponsored by a wonderful family in Pasadena and lived and had their children there until their deaths several years ago. Pasadena was their home and it is in their honor that I urge you to please not pass this resolution that would've heard them so very much.
They lease do not adopt any biased "ceasefire" resolution that would fuel divisions and hate in our community, while harming efforts to end the horrific October 7th War.

Dear Mayor and City Councilors,
I have been deeply alarmed by the genocide occurring in Gaza. Since Oct. 7, over 38,000 people have been killed by Israeli forces. Most recently, Israel has escalated bombardment of Rafah, "the last safe zone" in Gaza where more than
1.5 million displaced Palestinians are seeking refuge.
Additionally, a majority of people in Gaza are facing starvation due to humanitarian aid being blocked with the UN warning of famine as soon as May.
It is critical that we respond firmly and strongly with a ceasefire resolution. Please join the over 70 US cities, including San Francisco, Cudahy, Oakland, and Pomona in voting for a ceasefire by voting "Yes" on the resolution introduced by Counilmember Rivas, this Monday
Thank you,

To: Pasadena City Council:
It is my understanding your Council has placed on the agenda for a Monday meeting a resolution regarding a ceasefire in a foreign country where Pasadena has no auspices nor ability to influence anything in this regard.
To indicate I am strongly against this action ever taking place much less that it has any chance of passage is an enormous understatement.
Even indicating this resolution should be on your agenda is an arrogance indicative of the blatant lack of your City Council having ALL the necessary facts, full and complete understanding of the current situation and any authority to take action, which would/could in anyway help anyone.
On the contrary, this action directly takes aim at the Jewish people in your community and surrounding communities who have to defend themselves against antisemitic onslaught this action most definitely precipitates.
I send this email to you to demonstrate and indicate my definitive stand against this resolution even being considered, then scheduled and actually given any light of day.
Respectfully,
Heather

Dear City Manager Miguel Marquiz,
This is exhausting. And, I, we, your Jewish colleagues and neighbors are beggingyou notto adopt any biased "ceasefire" resolution that would fuel divisions and hate in our community, while harming efforts to end the horrific October 7th War.
While I do not believe municipal governments should address international affairs at all, if you choose to adopt a resolution on this issue it must include a clear call for Hamas to release alt hostages and surrender now.
I know that the Pasadena City Council wants to do the right thing and bring about an end to the humanitarian crisis, but this symbolic gesture will do nothing more than bring more hate and animosity towards the Jewish community.
I urge you not to adopt a resolution and use your energy to bring people together, rather than further 1 dividing us.
Additionally, I askyou to examine whatyour purpose is by introducing and seekingto pass this resolution. The bias and hatred are so rampant: do you not consider how you are fueling it with resolutions like these? If your heart wants peace, there are clearer, Less hate filled paths, to achieving it.
Do not ask of Israel and the Jewish people what you cannot give in return.
Sincerely,
Amyhlandelman

While I do not believe municipal governments should address international affairs at all, if you choose to adopt a resolution on this issue it must include a clear call for Hamas to release all hostages and surrender now.
I know that the Pasadena City Council wants to do the right thing and bring about an end to the humanitarian crisis, but this symbolic gesture will do nothing more than bring more hate and animosity towards the Jewish community.
I urge you not to adopt a resolution and use your energy to bring people together, rather than further dividing us.
Sincerely,
Brooke Harris

Dear Mayor and City Councilors,
I have been deeply alarmed by the genocide occurring in Gaza. Since Oct. 7, over 38,000 people have been killed by Israeli forces. Most recently, Israel has escalated bombardment ofRafah, "the last safe zone" in Gaza where more than 1.5 million displaced Palestinians are seeking refuge.

Dear City Manager Miguel Marquiz,
I am writing you today to urge you not to adopt any biased "ceasefire" resolution that would fuel divisions and hate in our community, while harming efforts to end the horrific October 7th War.
I want an end to the fighting and suffering in Gaza and Israel, as I'm sure you do too.
1. A ceasefire existed on October 6 but was broken by h-lamas on October 7 when they brutally attacked Israel, killing 1,200 innocent civilians and kidnapping 253 people - ranging in age from 9 months to 85 years old.
Honorable Mayor and Esteemed City Council of Pasadena,
I am writing to request that you vote NO on the resolution regarding a Ceasefire in the war in Gaza.I am a very concerned resident of Los Angeles with deep and abiding ties to your great city. As an attorney, I am honored to represent business clients headquartered in Pasadena and I enjoy the incredible cultural offerings of your city, including my favorite Norton Simon Museum, and the terrific restaurants and shops in Old Town. I travel to Pasadena for excellent medical care, and each year my family and I look forward to attending the famed Rose Parade.
Advocating for a ceasefire in Gaza without conditioning it on the release of all hostages and the surrender of the Hamas terrorist group is immoral and unjust. On October ~1, the Jewish people endured their most horrific mass slaughter, rape and pillaging since the hlolocaust.
Moreover, scores of innocent children, women, and elderly civilians remain in captivity as hostages in Gaza, and thousands of Israeli citizens remain uprooted from their homes due to ongoing missile strikes in Israel. Israel has responded by defending itself from further attack by Hamas/ who has repeatedly promised to engage in further slaughter, rape and kidnapping of civilians until Israel no longer exists as a Jewish homeland and the only democracy in the Middle East. Voting on a resolution for an unconditional ceasefire sends a signal to all Jews in your city and beyond that the City Council of Pasadena would be content if October 7th were repeated endlessly until all the Jews in Israel are slaughtered. The resolution would also likely increase antisemitism in Pasadena and beyond.
If your desire is to express solidarity with innocent Palestinian civilians who are suffering greatly in this war (which is a goal that I also share), I respectfully suggest that you consider resolutions asking Egypt, Jordan and other neighboring countries to open their doors and provide a safe haven to innocent women and children as is customary and expected in wars, including the ongoing war in Ukraine. Moreover, perhaps your city could sponsor Palestinian refugees from the war as many United States cities did with Syrians fleeing the horrors of the Assad regime (which I don't recall that you condemned).
Please consider that a ceasefire resolution may tarnish the reputation of your great City (and that of the famed Rose Parade) as well as your standing as ambassadors of tolerance, respect and inclusivity for all peoples. I personally would not feel comfortable continuing my deep ties From:

Vote YES to Pass a Ceasefire Resolution
Some people who received this message don't often get email fromt/hy this is important CAUTION: This email was delivered from the Internet. Do not click links or open attachments unless you know the content is safe. Report phish using the Phish Alert Button. Learn more....
Dear Mayor, Councilmembers and Council staff:
I'm writing to urge you to vote YES on the ceasefire resolution when it comes up on the 18th. Pasadena should join the dozens of American cities that have passed ceasefire resolutions. Gaza is running out of time, and needs us to act now.
Pasadena city council has a proud history of standingfor justice, even though the councildoes not exert direct control over national policy. They have spoken out on issues of grave importance in the past - massacres in Artsakh, reproductive freedom, protecting immigrants - this issue deserves the same consideration.
Approximately 40,000 Palestinians have been killed, with tens of thousands more under the rubble. Two- thirds of the dead are women and children. Famine and disease are spreading, and deaths will escalate sharply without an immediate ceasefire and an inflow of aid.
The United Nations has repeatedly voted to pass a ceasefire resolution because the world sees that what is happening in Palestine is not self-defense, but ethnic cleansing and genocide. The refusal by the US to allow the world to speak with one voice is one of the reasons we are here.
Ceasefire is the way to ensure the safe return of all hostages, rarely mentioned are the thousands of Palestinian hostages as well as Israelis. This is why families of Israeli hostages have been pteading with their government to agree to a ceasefire.
To say that Oct 7 was the end of a ceasefire is simply untrue. Prior to October 7th, 2023 was the deadliest year on record for Palestinians killed by Israel, with 507 Palestinians killed in the West Bank alone (where there is no Hamas presence). Violence by Israeli forces and also by Israeli settlers (which has been encouraged by the Israeli government) had been escalating and unrelenting leading up to October 7th.
Self-defense is not a blank check for genocide. Mass starvation is not self-defense. Mass displacement is not self-defense. Destroying 85 percent of Gaza's homes, as well as schools, hospitals, museums and houses of worship is not self-defense. These are definitively, genocide.
Israel has again attacked Palestinian civilians waiting in Line to get aid. This time, Israeli forces have killed 80 and injured up to 200 people. Israel has once again begun to bomb AL-Shifa hospital targeting Hospital staff and injured civilians, these are WAR CRIMES. They have been bombing Rafah, smallerthan the city 1 of Newark, and had over 1.2 million refugees.
Palestinians do not have time; please act with courage and swiftness to pass this resolution.
1. Ceasefire
2. Release of all hostages, Palestinian and Israeli.
3. Divestment from Israel's apartheid.
4. Ending the siege on Gaza.
5. Removal of all settlements
6. Legal ramifications of Israel's genocide and war crimes committed in Palestine (including Gaza, West Bank, Jerusalem and more)
Thankyou
2
