Dear Mayor and City Councilors,
I have been deeply alarmed, revolted, and appalled by the genocide occurring in Gaza.

Since Oct. 1, over 38,000 people have been killed by Israeli forces. Most recently, Israel has escalated bombardment of Rafah, which is supposed to be "the last safe zone" in Gaza where more than 1.5 million displaced Palestinians are seeking refuge.

Additionally, a majority of people in Gaza are facing starvation due to humanitarian aid being blocked, with the UN warning of famine as soon as May.

It is critically imperative that we respond firmly and strongly with a ceasefire resolution. Please join the over 70 US cities, including San Francisco, Cudahy, Oakland, and Pomona in voting for a ceasefire by voting "Yes" on the resolution introduced by Counilmember Rivas, this Monday
Thank you,

Dear Mayor, Councilmembers and Council staff:

I'm writing to urge you to vote YES on the ceasefire resolution when it comes up on the 18th. Pasadena should join the dozens of American cities that have passed ceasefire resolutions. Gaza is running out of time, and needs us to act now.

Pasadena city council has a proud historyof standing for justice, even though the council does not exert direct control over national policy. They have spoken out on issues of grave importance in the past - massacres in Artsakh, reproductive freedom, protecting immigrants - this issue deserves the same consideration.

Approximately 40,000 Palestinians have been killed, with tens of thousands more under the rubble. Two- thirds of the dead are women and children. Famine and disease are spreading, and deaths will escalate sharply without an immediate ceasefire and an inflow of aid.

The United Nations has repeatedly voted to pass a ceasefire resolution because the world sees that what is happening in Palestine is not self-defense, but ethnic cleansing and genocide. The refusal by the US to allow the world to speak with one voice is one of the reasons we are here.

Ceasefire is the way to ensure the safe return of all hostages. This is why families of Israeli hostages have been pleading with their government to agree to a ceasefire.

To say that Oct 7 was the end of a ceasefire is simply untrue. Prior to October 7th, 2023 was the deadliest year on record for Palestinians killed by Israel, with 507 Palestinians killed in the West Bank alone.

Violence by Israeli forces and also by Israeli settlers (which has been encouraged by the Israeli government) had been escalating and unrelenting leading up to October 7th.

Israel's right to defend itself does not allow it to commit war crimes. Self-defense is notablankcheckfor genocide. Mass starvation is not self-defense. Mass displacement is not self-defense. Destroying 85 percent of Gaza's homes, as well as schools, hospitals, museums and houses of worship is not setf- defense.

Israel has again attacked Palestinian civilians waiting in Line to get aid. This time, Israeli forces have killed 80 and injured up to 200 people.
1 Palestinians do not have time; please act with courage and swiftness to pass this resolution.

Thank you

Dear Pasadena city council,
Please vote Yes on a ceasefire resolution in Gaza.

Lately, President Biden and his cabinets started proposing a ceasefire in Gaza. It's time for each community to support and back up this ceasefire resolution.

Thank you,

Dear Mayor Gordo,
I remember ,when came to Pasadena Jewish Temple along with Rep. CHU on Oct 9th ,to show solidarity with Israel and Jewish community and I am very thankful to you for that as an active person ( as lay leader not as professional) in International and domestic diplomacy as a Jewish American.

I wrote the email below to Councilmember Rivas , Hampton and Lyon and I seek your support on this matter to assure local cities and elected official should not be officially take position on Foreign policy matters.

Of course as an Individual , freedom of speech is important, as long as one can not deny the fact, one can not be hold immune from the liability of abusing freedom of speech.
hlaving said that, our personal opinions on foreign affairs should not be mingled into local city politics.

Respectfully,
Eli Ibrahimzade

Subject: Pasadena City Council Resolution discussion on Gaza Dear Councilmember Rivas,
I am writing to you , as an American by CHOICE , and a very open minded Jewish American, who has helped .Palestinian business people to partner with Israelis , who has met with Palestinian Authority leaders to discuss / advocate two state solution ,who has a also created a small group Muslims in LA whose origins are from fifteen different Muslim countries and criticized publicly Charlottesville event.

I am very surprised that Pas.City Council, even taking into consideration , a resolution ref Gaza.

Local cities are obligated to serve their constituents well being , safety .health and all important matters to their lives but NOT FOREIGN POLICY matters.

Imagine if every city , took a position not only on Mid East Affairs but also Chinese GOV practices and Russia ,North Korea.

This is nothing other than opening Pandoras box.

Did City of Pasadena ever consider and pass a resolution on the below mentioned matters
• While Chinese Government systematically abusing their Muslim Uyghur citizens since years, by relocating them .indoctrinating them in camps by force , depriving them from their land and relocating.
• While Russia is shelling cities and killing many Ukranian civilians even though Ukraine never attacked Russia or kidnapped .murdered ,raped Russian citizens. • Call on Palestinians in Gaza , who celebrated 9-1 1 when 3000 of our own US citizens were murdered (link below )
• Call on Hamas for torturing and killing their own Palestinian people , please open the attached picture and links for FACT CHECK
Before you decided to discuss Cease Fire matter in Gaza Did you consider a resolution on HAMAS being dismantled and ALL HOSTAGES brought back , including the remains of,raped , kidnapped , babies ,elderly , and women ?
I'd like to assume you watched the footage HAMAS sent , on Gazan civilians kicking dead raped Israeli young woman and soldiers , which makes those civilians nothing but LIABLE and COMPLACENT for applauding a crime
So far not been aware of any of these being called upon ,by the Pasadena City Council.

With all due respect, not only a resolution should be passed , but it should not even be considered to discuss.

Why is a resolution on Gaza even being considered .because it involves Jews and Israel ?
Pasadena is a respectful community in many ways , PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM FOREIGN POLICY MATTERS AND KEEP SERVING THE LOCAL COMMUNITY.

With all due respect,

Dear City Manager Miguel Marquiz,
I am writing you today to urge you not to adopt any biased "ceasefire" resolution that would fuel divisions and hate in our community, while harming efforts to end the horrific October 7th War.

I want an end to the fighting and suffering in Gaza and Israel, as I'm sure you do. However, biased "ceasefire" city council resolutions have been shown to have no impact on this complex conflict. In fact, what the Jewish community has witnessed is that resolutions like this actually fuel more hate towards Jews and anyone else who does not believe cities should weigh in on international issues. There are many examples of such hate, including in the Oakland and Long Beach city councils.

I feel it is important to remind you of the following:

1. A ceasefire existed on October 6 but was broken by Hamas on October 7 when they brutally attacked Israel, killing 1,200 innocent civilians and kidnapping 253 people - ranging in age from 9 months to 85 years old.

2. Israel has accepted terms laid out by international negotiators for an extended ceasefire and drastic increase in humanitarian aid to Gaza. It is Hamas that has thus far rejected such a ceasefire.

3. There would be a permanent ceasefire tomorrow if Hamas would release all hostages, lay down its arms, and allow Israelis and Palestinians to rebuild in peace and security.

The type of "ceasefire" you are being pressured to support would not bring a just or lasting peace. What it would do is help Hamas, a genocidal terrorist group, maintain its grip on power in Gaza and continue its endless war against Israel.

While t do not believe municipal governments should address international affairs at all, if you choose to adopt a resolution on this issue it must include a clear call for Hamas to release all hostages and surrender now.

I know that the Pasadena City Council wants to do the right thing and bring about an end to the humanitarian crisis, but this symbolic gesture will do nothing more than bring more hate and animosity towards the Jewish community.

I urge you not to adopt a resolution and use your energy to bring people together, rather than further dividing us.

Sincerely,
Jilaillulian

Dear Mayor and City Council members,
I want to express my appreciation and support for the Ceasefire Resolution. This Resolution calls for what the people of this country and the world are calling for: an end to the tragic violence, humanitarian aid to the Gazan people and a just and lasting peace. As a Quaker and a follower of the "Prince of Peace," I believe we must do all we can to promote peace and end war.

We need a permanent ceasefire, return of Jewish hostages, release of Palestinian political prisoners, and a negotiated settlement that ensures security for Israel and dignity, equality and justice for Palestinians.

We need to ensure the safe and immediate delivery of desperately needed humanitarian aid to the Gazan people, the majority of whom are malnourished and many are dying of starvation. We need not only a ceasefire, but also a cessation of arms to Israel until it complies with international law and US law with regards to human rights. The UN and aid workers have repeatedly made it clear that Israel is blocking delivery of humanitarian aid. It has even killed over 100 people seeking humanitarian aid during the so-called "Flour Massacre." As Senator Bernie Sanders said, "Stopping American humanitarian aid is in violation of the law. That should be clear. No more money to Netanyahu's war machine to kill Palestinian children," referencing the iForeiqn Assistance Act|.

Finally, I am also pleased that this Resolution condemns "all forms of racism, bigotry, and discrimination, including antisemitism and Islamophobia." Those who criticize Israel's actions in Gaza have sometimes been accused those of being "antisemitic" but this is clearly not true. Senator Bernie Sanders and Senator Chuck Schumer are both Jewish and have been critical of Netanyahu. Many Jews of conscience are calling for a ceasefire and a just and lasting peace in Israel/Palestine.

A ceasefire will benefit not only the Palestinians but also the Jewish people. Violence begets violence and hatred, and the cycle of violence and hatred must stop so that the Palestinians and the Israelis can learn to live together in peace, with justice, security and equality for all. Once the violence stops, the incidents of antisemitism and Islamophobia will likely go down in our own country and in our city.

For the good of our city, our nation, and the world, including people of Israel and Palestine, I urge you to pass this Resolution, just you passed a Resolution last year condemning the genocide of Armenians the displacement of over 150,000 Armenians in Artsakh. I urge you to take to heart the words of Dr. King: "A threat to justice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere." 1 McMillan, Acquanette (Netta)

Dear Mayor, Councilmembers and Council staff: I%2^^m writing to urge you to vote YES on the ceasefire resolution when it comes up on the 18th. Pasadena should join the dozens of American cities that have passed ceasefire resolutions. Gaza is running out of time, and needs us to act now. Pasadena city council has a proud history of standing for justice, even though the council does not exert direct control over national policy.

They have spoken out
on issues of grave importance in the past - massacres in Artsakh, reproductive freedom, protecting immigrants - this issue deserves the same consideration. Approximately 40,000 Palestinians have been killed, with tens of thousands more under the rubble. Two-thirds
of the dead are women and children. Famine and disease are spreading, and deaths will escalate sharply without an immediate ceasefire and an inflow of aid. The United Nations has repeatedly voted to pass a ceasefire resolution because the world sees that what
is happening in Palestine is not self-defense, but ethnic cleansing and genocide. The refusal by the US to allow the world to speak with one voice is one of the reasons we are here. Ceasefire is the way to ensure the safe return of all hostages. This is why
families of Israeli hostages have been pleading with their government to agree to a ceasefire. To say that Oct 7 was the end of a ceasefire is simply untrue. Prior to October 7th, 2023 was the deadliest year on record for Palestinians killed by Israel, with
507 Palestinians killed in the West Bank alone. Violence by Israeli forces and also by Israeli settlers (which has been encouraged by the Israeli government) had been escalating and unrelenting leading up to October 7th.

Israel%2^^s right to defend itself
does not allow it to commit war crimes. Self-defense is not a blank check for genocide. Mass starvation is not self- defense. Mass displacement is not self-defense. Destroying 85 percent ofGaza%2^^s homes, as well as schools, hospitals, museums and houses
of worship is not self-defense. Israel has again attacked Palestinian civilians waiting in line to get aid. This time, Israeli forces have killed 80 and injured up to 200 people. Palestinians do not have time; please act with courage and swiftness to pass
this resolution. Thank you

Dear City Manager Miguel Marquiz,
I am writing you today to urge you not to adopt any biased "ceasefire" resolution that would fuel divisions and hate in our community, while harming efforts to end the horrific October 7th War.

I want an end to the fighting and suffering in Gaza and Israel, as I'm sure you do. h-lowever, biased "ceasefire" city council resolutions have been shown to have no impact on this complex conflict.

3. There would be a permanent ceasefire tomorrow if hlamas would release all hostages, lay down its arms, and allow Israelis and Palestinians to rebuild in peace and security.

The type of "ceasefire" you are being pressured to support would not bring a just or lasting peace. What it would do is help Hamas, a genocidal terrorist group, maintain its grip on power in Gaza and continue its endless war against Israel. While I do not believe municipal governments should address international affairs at all, if you choose to adopt a resolution on this issue it must include a clear call for Hamas to release all hostages and surrender now.

Dear Mayor and City Councilors,
I have been deeply alarmed by the genocide occurring in Gaza. Since Oct. 7, over 38,000 people have been killed by Israeli forces. Most recently, Israel has escalated bombardment of Rafah, "the last safe zone" in Gaza where more than

1.5 million displaced Palestinians are seeking refuge.

Additionally, a majority of people in Gaza are facing starvation due to humanitarian aid being blocked with the UN warning of famine as soon as May.

It is critical that we respond firmly and strongly with a ceasefire resolution. Please join the over 70 US cities, including San Francisco, Cudahy, Oakland, and Pomona in voting for a ceasefire by voting "Yes" on the resolution introduced by Counilmember Rivas, this Monday
Thank you,
Farhana Islam

Dear Mayor and City Councilors,
I am an Israeli-American and grandchild ofAuschwitz survivors who stands in solidarity with Palestinians. I urge you to vote YES on the Ceasefire Resolution.

I refute the way that post Holocaust grief and trauma has been used by the Israeli Apartheid regime to justify these atrocities in Palestine. This is selective empathy and Jewish supremacy and it MUST STOP NOW. Too much blood has been spilled.

Zionists will argue that a ceasefire resolution makes Jewish people unsafe, when the opposite is true. The conflation of Zionism with Judaism and the ongoing massacre of Palestinians are the reasons for Jewish people feeling less safe.

A YES vote puts pressure on federal officials, a YES vote sends the message that we stand with humanity and against violence and oppression, and a YES vote demands we stop using our taxpayer money to fund genocide and ethnic cleansing.

It is critical that we respond firmly and strongly with a ceasefire resolution. Please join the over 70 US cities, including San Francisco, Cudahy, Oakland, and Pomona in voting for a ceasefire by voting "Yes" on the resolution introduced by Counilmember Rivas.
*** Please also consider breaking for a 20 minute recess at 7 pm so those members of the community who are fasting for Ramadan can break their fast and pray. ***

Dear Mayor Gordo,
I am writing you today to urge you not to adopt any biased "ceasefire" resolution that would fuel divisions and hate in our community, while harming efforts to end the horrific October I want an end to the fighting and suffering in Gaza and Israel, as I'm sure you do.

While I do not believe municipal governments should address international affairs at all, if you choose to adopt a resolution on this issue it must include a clear call for Hamas to release all hostages and surrender now.

Sincerely,
Cara Jaffe

Dear Mayor and City Councilors,
As a Jewish American who lives in Los Angeles, just 5 minutes from Pasadena, I am deeply alarmed by the genocide occurring in Gaza.

While most military experts and experts on the Israel/Palestine conflict agree that there is no military solution to the conflict, and that killing tens of thousands of civilians in Gaza will only create the next generation of violent resistance, the US has continuously renewed its investment in Israel's weaponry over the last few months.

Since Oct. 7, over 38,000 people have been killed by Israeli forces. Most recently, Israel has escalated bombardment of Rafah, "the Last safe zone" in Gaza where more than 1.5 million displaced Palestinians are seeking refuge.

Dear Mayor and City Councilors,
Pass the ceasefire! I am trans nonbinary, Christian, the descendant of Jewish survivors of the Spanish Inquisition, and a practitioner of nonviolence. I work in Pasadena.

I have been deeply alarmed by the genocide occurring in Gaza. Since Oct. 7, over 38,000 people have been killed by Israeli forces. Most recently, Israel has escalated bombardment ofRafah, "the last safe zone" in Gaza where more than 1.5 million displaced Palestinians are seeking refuge.

Human Rights Watch agrees with the International Court of Justice that Israel's actions in Gaza constitute a genocide and urges other countries to "use all forms of leverage, including sanctions and embargoes, to press the Israeli government to comply with the court's binding orders in the genocide case." The Israeli human rights group, B'T Selem, accuses Israel of War Crimes in Gaza and states, "...this policy is not new, but has been implemented towards Gaza for many years. The death, destruction, pain and horror it has wrought have led to nothing but more horror." B'T Selem has also previously called the conditions in the West Bank and Gaza "apartheid."
Many families of Israeli hostages are protesting before Benjamin Netanyahu's home, calling for a ceasefire. On January 25, 2024, LA Times wrote, "many of the families have grown disillusioned with the war and convinced that only a cease-fire — not further military operations — will free their loved ones." Please honor the cries of these Israeli families and support a ceasefire.

Additionally, a majority of people in Gaza are facing starvation due to humanitarian aid being blocked with the UN warning of famine as soon as May.

It is critical that we respond firmly and strongly with a ceasefire resolution. Please join the over 70 US cities, including San Francisco, Cudahy, Oakland, and Pomona in voting for a ceasefire by voting "Yes" on the resolution introduced by Councilmember Rivas, this Monday.

Thank you,

Dear Pasadena City Council,
As a Jewish physician, practicing in Pasadena for over 35 years, I feel obligated to share my comments regarding the upcoming discussion about a "cease-fire" in Israel.

I have read the editorial by Jason Moss (pdf attached), and I do not have any better way to say what has been said in that article.

This resolution will do more harm than good.

This resolution is going to further divide our community, which is the opposite of what we expect from our City Government.

This resolution undoubtedly will lead to MORE antisemitic acts in Pasadena, and as Jew and a member of the Pasadena Jewish Temple this causes me great concern and fear.

Warmly,
Bryan Jick. MD

Hi, Councilperson Rivas (and all other Pasadena City Council persons and team members), Greetings, we have been in touch before on other city issues but will keep my request short and to the point.

You represent me and the area that I live in, in the city of Pasadena.

I am 100% opposed to the Pasadena City Council, adopting a "Cease Fire Resolution" in the current conflict in Israel, between the Israelis and the Hamas Terrorist organization.

Please do not vote to adopt the resolution which I see as being anti-Semitic in its nature and origin.

I am not sure why this particular measure is on the slate for the Pasadena City Council as it is not an issue directly impacting Pasadena, however, if the decision is to go forward and vote, please vote NO!
Thank you in advance for your support.

Sincerely,
Rolfe Jones (RJ)

Dear Pasadena City Council Members,
As a lifelong Altadena/Pasadena resident, I am writing to urge you to refrain from weighing in on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict through a ceasefire resolution at the March 18 City Council meeting. While I, personally am in favor of ending the death and suffering of innocent people, this is a highly divisive global issue and despite being well-intentioned, it would undoubtedly deepen divides within our local community when unity should be the priority.

Your efforts would be better focused on addressing pressing local concerns and fostering an environment of understanding for all Pasadenans. By concentrating on initiatives that directly impact our city's well-being, we can strengthen the bonds that unite us.

I respectfully request that my comments be included in the public record. Thank you for considering my perspective and serving our community.

Sincerely,
Carrie Jordan

Vote YES to Pass a Ceasefire Resolution

Dear Mayor, Councilmembers and Council staff:

I'm writing to urge you to vote YES on the ceasefire resolution when it comes up on the 18th. Pasadena should join the dozens of American cities that have passed ceasefire resolutions. Gaza is running out of time, and needs us to act now.

Pasadena city council has a proud history of standing for justice, even though the council does not exert direct control over national policy. They have spoken out on issues of grave importance in the past - massacres in Artsakh, reproductive freedom, protecting immigrants - this issue deserves the same consideration.

Approximately 40,000 Palestinians have been killed, with tens of thousands more under the rubble. Two-thirds of the dead are women and children.

Self-defense is not a blank check for genocide. Mass starvation is not self-defense. Mass displacement is not self-defense. Destroying 85 percent of Gaza's homes, as well as schools, hospitals, museums and houses of worship is not self-defense.

Israel has again attacked Palestinian civilians waiting in line to get aid. This time, Israeli forces have killed 80 and injured up to 200 people.

Palestinians do not have time; please act with courage and swiftness to pass this resolution. 1 McMillan, Acquanette (Netta)

Thank you,
Jen Joseph

Dear Mayor, Councilmembers and Council staff: I'm writing to urge you to vote YES on the ceasefire resolution when it comes up on the 18th.

Self-defense is not a blank check for genocide. Mass starvation is not self-defense. Mass displacement is not self- defense. Destroying 85 percent of Gaza's homes, as well as schools, hospitals, museums and houses of worship is not self-defense. Israel has again attacked Palestinian civilians waiting in line to get aid.
