Dear City Manager Miguel Marquiz,
I am writing you today to urge you not to adopt any biased "ceasefire" resolution that would fuel divisions and hate in our community, while harming efforts to end the horrific October 7th War.
I want an end to the fighting and suffering in Gaza and Israel, as I'm sure you do. However, biased "ceasefire" city council resolutions have been shown to have no impact on this complex conflict. In fact, what the Jewish community has witnessed is that resolutions like this actually fuel more hate towards Jews and anyone else who does not believe cities should weigh in on international issues. There are many examples of such hate, including in the Oakland and Long Beach city councils.
I feel it is important to remind you of the following:
1. A ceasefire existed on October 6 but was broken by Hamas on October 7 when they brutally attacked Israel, killing 1,200 innocent civilians and kidnapping 253 people - ranging in age from 9 months to 85 years old.
2. Israel has accepted terms laid out by international negotiators for an extended ceasefire and drastic increase in humanitarian aid to Gaza. It is Hamas that has thus far rejected such a ceasefire.
3. There would be a permanent ceasefire tomorrow if Hamas would release all hostages, lay down its arms, and allow Israelis and Palestinians to rebuild in peace and security.
The type of "ceasefire" you are being pressured to support would not bring a just or lasting peace. What it would do is help Hamas, a genocidal terrorist group, maintain its grip on power in Gaza and continue its endless war against Israel.
While I do not believe municipal governments should address international affairs at all, if you choose to adopt a resolution on this issue it must include a clear call for Hamas to release all hostages and surrender now.
I know that the Pasadena City Council wants to do the right thing and bring about an end to the humanitarian crisis, but this symbolic gesture will do nothing more than bring more hate and animosity towards the Jewish community.
I urge you not to adopt a resolution and use your energy to bring people together, rather than further dividing us.
Sincerely,
ShulamitMD

Ceasefire resolution 03/18/2024

Dear Mayor Gordo,
I hope this emailfinds you welt. My name is Jordan Magged. I am a longtime Pasadena area resident and now concerned citizen. I am writing to express my worry regarding the "ceasefire" resolution taking place on March 18th Because there has been so much loss of life and suffering, we need to as a community band together and make sure this doesn't happen again. But how will this happen if there is a "ceasefire"? We have a real opportunity to make sure October 07 doesn't happen again, and I am afraid that voting in favor of a ceasefire is sending the complete wrong message to the world. (One that Jews are weak, and it's ok to murder them, kidnap them, rape them...)
The world needs to knowthat what happened is not OK, and there are major consequences to killing innocent Jewish civilians. What will the world learn from a ceasefire? That is the important question. I urge you to hear ALL thevoicesofyourcommunitymembers, butreallyaskyourself if a ceasefire is the right choice here. Ultimately, we all want the violence to end, I think we just have different ideas about how we wilt get there.
Thanks for listening,
JM

I know that the Pasadena City Council wants to do the right thing and bring about an end to the humanitarian crisis, but this symbolic gesture wilt do nothing more than bring more hate and animosity towards the Jewish community.
I urge you not to adopt a resolution and use your energy to bring people together, rather than further dividing us.
Sincerely,
Faith Meltzer

Sincerely,
Stuart Miller

Dear City Clerk Mark Jomsky,
I am a Neurologist in Pasadena, serving the community for the past 15 years. I am also an Iranian Jew who immigrated to US in 1991 with my parents after tolerating years of persecution and anti-Semitic activities in Iran. My story is not unique, there are many members like me. The root of all concerns is not Islam or true Muslim, the issue are those radical terroristic groups such as Hamas, hijacking religion and murdering Jews on October 7th and continuing with their terrorist ideas to created hate, division and chaos. They have no intention of returning innocent hostages after their raped women, shot teenagers in the back and beheaded children in front of their parents. They are not peace loving, humanity compatible groups. I hope for the sake of my family and other Jewish members in the community who have served and lived a quiet life, you do the right thing.
I feet it is important to remind you of the following:
1. A ceasefire existed on October 6 but was broken by Hamas on October 7 when they brutally attacked Israel, killing 1,200 innocent civilians and kidnapping 253 people - ranging in age from 9 months to 85 years old.

Dear City Council Members:
I urge you: please do not adopt a ceasefire resolution.
It will have no impact on the conflict itself and will instead sow divisions and put your Jewish constituents at risk. The Israel-Hamas War led to an immediate and alarming spike in antisemitic hate crimes here in the United States. The ADL has tracked the data for over 40 years and is seeing the highest rates of antisemitic hate crimes and antisemitic sentiments that have been seen in decades. This rise in antisemitism hits close to home. In Los Angeles County, synagogues have received bomb threats, Jews have been attacked on the streets, Jewish business have been defaced, Jews have been subjected to antisemitism in their workplaces and schools, have been targeted online, etc. This rise in antisemitism and antisemitic hate crimes have left the Jewish community shaken. A ceasefire resolution will only add fuel to the fire.
Beyond that, symbolic resolutions addressing international issues take away from finite time and resources that should be directed at addressing the real, local issues within your control. This sets a precedent that will continue to take away from time for pressing issues before you.
Thank you for your consideration.

Good afternoon. The following is an email I received from Joshia and Janice Pais (very long-time Pasadena residents). They asked me to forward this message to the city council members and into the public record.
Dear Pasadena City Council Members -
Are you or your colleagues ignorant of the fact that Iran, not Israel, is the main source of the Middle East crisis? Since the start of the State of Israel, the Arabs have started every war with Israel. It's their attempt to annihilate Israel and the Jewish people. This fact includes the current conflict. Iran supplies all its puppets, Hamas, Hezbollah, and Houthis with money, arms and training to do all their dirty work. Iran appears to get off totally free! There is no mention of all the rockets falling indiscriminately into Israel daily. There is no mention that the rocket launchers are always placed by schools, nurseries, hospitals, etc, so when Israel responds to eliminate the launchers, it always comes within the innocent people. Iran and its puppets want the Palestinians killed so they can blame Israel. It's only Hamas that has taken hostages and refuses to release all of them. Why is it that no Arab country is willing to accept Palestinians? Why is there no mention in the ceasefire that Hamas and Hezbollah must stop their daily bombing of Israel? A vote for an immediate ceasefire is a reward to Iran and its murdering puppets.

Sincerely,
Kylowna Moton
