Dear City Manager Miguel Marquiz,
I am writing you today to urge you not to adopt any biased "ceasefire" resolution that would fuel divisions and hate in our community, while harming efforts to end the horrific October 7th War.
I want an end to the fighting and suffering in Gaza and Israel, as I'm sure you do. However, biased "ceasefire" city council resolutions have been shown to have no impact on this complex conflict. In fact, what the Jewish community has witnessed is that resolutions like this actually fuel more hate towards Jews and anyone else who does not believe cities should weigh in on international issues. There are many examples of such hate, including in the Oakland and Long Beach city councils.
I feel it is important to remind you of the following:
1. A ceasefire existed on October 6 but was broken by Hamas on October 7 when they brutally attacked Israel, killing 1,200 innocent civilians and kidnapping 253 people - ranging in age from 9 months to 85 years old.
2. Israel has accepted terms laid out by international negotiators for an extended ceasefire and drastic increase in humanitarian aid to Gaza. It is Hamas that has thus far rejected such a ceasefire.
3. There would be a permanent ceasefire tomorrow if Hamas would release all hostages, lay down its arms, and allow Israelis and Palestinians to rebuild in peace and security.
The type of "ceasefire" you are being pressured to support would not bring a just or lasting peace. What it would do is help Hamas, a genocidal terrorist group, maintain its grip on power in Gaza and continue its endless war against Israel.
While I do not believe municipal governments should address international affairs at all, if you choose to adopt a resolution on this issue it must include a clear call for Hamas to release all hostages and surrender now.
I know that the Pasadena City Council wants to do the right thing and bring about an end to the humanitarian crisis, but this symbolic gesture will do nothing more than bring more hate and animosity towards the Jewish community.
I urge you not to adopt a resolution and use your energy to bring people together, rather than further dividing us.
Sincerely,
jubin niamehr

I do not live in Pasadena, but am a long time Huntington member, Norton Simon visitor, Kidspace visitor, Tournament of Roses fan, and am very saddened to hear that the City of Pasadena is holding a vote to approve a ceasefire in Israel.
I do not think you really understand what voting for a ceasefire would mean for the State of Israel. It would mean losing the war. It would mean that the over 1200 innocent Israelis who were raped, murdered, beheaded, baked alive in ovens, beaten, and burned alive, not to mention the ones that were taken hostage, sexually abused, starved of both food and medical care, and the 500+ soldiers who have lost their lives fighting in Gaza, and the hundreds of soldiers who have been seriously wounded - losing limbs, would all be in vain. Because, make no mistake, Hamas's goal is to destroy Israel and all of the Jews. and take over the land "from the River to the Sea". They are not interested in a 2 state solution or a ceasefire. And as to the many "innocent" Palestinians? Most are members of Hamas, and are complicit in the October 7th attacks and holding Israeli's hostage. If there are any innocent Gazans, they are being used as human shields by Hamas. If you want to save them, let Israel do its job.
If there is a ceasefire, Hamas will re-arm, re-strengthen themselves, and launch another deadly attack on innocent Israelis. Or innocent Amercians.
Voting for a ceasefire is a blatant anti-semitic move, anti-democracy, anti-Amercian.
I urge you to vote against a ceasefire, and visit Israel, and see for yourself how life is both in Israel and Gaza. The only people who are oppressing the Palestinians is Hamas, and they need to be removed from the world.
Thank you,
Tania Pollack

Dear City Clerk Mark Jomsky,
I am writing you today to urge you not to adopt any biased "ceasefire" resolution that would fuel divisions and hate in our community, while harming efforts to end the horrific October 7th War.
Sincerely,
Lawrence Post

Dear Mayor and council members of Pasadena,
As a resident of Pasadena I am strongly opposed to this resolution for the following reasons:
You were elected with our vote for your expertise in local government affairs, not to affect foreign affairs.
By considering this resolution you are causing election interference in another country. Your elected position is not to be an activist handling Israel and Hamas war.
Are you going to use official time taking sides and adopting resolutions for other countries at war? We suggest you get to the business of Pasadena and shut down this vote all together.
The conflicts in the Middle East are not your job. Majority of Pasadena registered voters have different views and want you to concentrate on improving Pasadena, if you advocate for this or any foreign matters, you will not have our votes in the future.
Sincerely,
Douglas and Irit Potter

Sincerely,
Athalia Rptter

Dear City Council members,
I am aware that at the upcoming City Council meeting scheduled for Monday, March 18, you will be discussing a resolution to call for an immediate ceasefire in the Israel/Hamas war. As a resident of the City of Pasadena, I am writing to respectfully ask that you do not adopt an official position on a political issue that has nothing to do with the city of Pasadena. I strongly believe that local government should stay focused on the issues that directly affect our city. This resolution will only cause there to be more divisiveness within our city and it will be harder for everyone to work together when it comes to local issues.
As a member of the Jewish community here in Pasadena, this war has been a daily presence in my life since October 7th.
I have family who live in Israel and I do not know anyone who wants innocent lives to be lost on either side. A ceasefire was in existence between Israel and Hamas until October 6th. This war was brought upon Israel by Hamas, a United States-designated terrorist organization. Hamas' charter states that they will not stop attacking Israel until Israel has ceased to exist. Israel has the right to defend itself, just as the United States has defended itself when it has come under attack. Innocents are still being held hostage in Gaza so there can be no talk of a ceasefire without their return. Israel did not want this war and did not start this war.
Voting on a resolution to call for a ceasefire sends a message to Jews in our city that there are no consequences for the horrific events that happened on October 7th. This will likely result in an increase in antisemitism within Pasadena. I am strongly requesting that you vote NO on the resolution regarding a ceasefire in the Israel/Hamas war.
Respectfully,
Shoshana Rosenbaum
Pasadena resident

Dear City Clerk Mark Jomsky,
I am writing you today to urge you not to adopt any biased "ceasefire" resolution that would fuel divisions and hate in our community, while harming efforts to end the horrific October 7th War.
Sincerely,
Matthew Ross
