Dear Pasadena City Council Members:
To purchase vehicles that are neither electric nor hybrid in 2024 is endangering our planetary future and acting in mindsets out of an era long past. Cities surrounding Pasadena are converting fleets to electric vehicles.
We want to be associated with a forward-looking city we are proud of, one like Burlington, Vermont that is at the top of the nations's environmentally forward-looking municipalities. Please reconsider this plan and at the very least try two electric trucks, and one electric police vehicle. Recreative: compare the fossil fuel model with the electric or hybrid models over several years, costwise. Then you will have information to share with residents as the leaders Pasadena has elected.
Sincerely,
Peter and Julie Parker

Mayor Gordo and Members of the City Council,
Pasadena has made a commitment to 100% renewable energy by 2030 (Thanks to you!). The goal is to reduce GhfG emissions as much and as quickly as possible.
Purchasing more fossil fuel powered municipal vehicles in 2025 is not in line with this goal. It will produce the opposite effect: increased GHG emissions into the mid 2030's.
The staff report did not state that electric vehicles of the kind being proposed were not available. If they are available, Pasadena should definitely purchase electric vehicles.
If we need more infrastructure, let's build it NOW.
Thank you for your consideration,
Kathy Berlin
Pasadena resident.

Item 3. Authorize Purchase Order for 3 Ford F150 Trucks and 2 Ford Explorer Sport Utility Vehicles

Item 3 on Pasadena City Council Monday's agenda requests authorization for the Police Department to purchase 5 fossil fuel powered municipal vehicles, three Ford F-150 trucks and two Ford Explorer Sport Utility Vehicles for $317,108.
How is it possible that despite the Greenhouse Gas Emissions Inventory adopted by City Council, November 18, 2013, the Pasadena Police Department is still requesting approval for purchase of gasoline and diesel powered vehicles? In 2023, our neighboring small town of South Pasadena purchased 10 electrical vehicles for their Police Department as have Irvine and other California cities. There is apparently a failure of leadership within city departments to enforce environmental goals and policies adopted by City Council.
At the Environmental Advisory Commission (EAC) meeting on April 9, 2024, Ursula Schmidt from PWP discussed an updated Climate Action Plan (CAP) which will be presented to EAC in May. All of these high-sounding reports and strategies are meaningless if city departments do not take them seriously and act in accordance with environmental mandates.
VOTE NO - Item 3 and require Pasadena Police Department to come back with a revised proposal to purchase electric vehicles, in accordance with stated City goals.

Council members,
I wish to express my surprise and disgust to learn that Pasadena is planning to purchase vehicles that burn fossil fuels in this era of climate change!
Unlike other forward looking cities like Glendale and Irvine, Pasadena leaders seem stuck in a fossil burning mode.
It is time that council members gave up on their out dated ways and understand the urgency of climate change! You are out of touch with citizens of this city. I charge you to rethink your views.
Sincerely,
Lorraine Montgomery

Dear Councilmembers, City Manager, Mayor,
I strongly oppose the City's purchase of fossil fuel vehicles. Many other Cities have started purchasing all electric vehicles as should Pasadena. Pasadena covers a 23 square mile service area, distances that are easily covered by an EVs average capacity of 300 miles per charge. We don't need more than this.
Also it's crazy to have continuous discussions about transportation creating the majority of our greenhouse gas emissions when we continue to buy fossil fuel vehicles. We continue to contribute to the bad air quality. It's like a bad feedback loop.
Pasadena needs to stop contributing to the climate crisis and start reducing emissions. Please reject the fossil fuel fleet and mandate EVs.
