Acting Director Carmona shared that the Public Health Department conducted a f ormal assessment of the various community-based organizations that offer services in youth development, violence prevention, intervention, and interruption. He added that staff will begin to assess city -based services to learn where a funding opportunity may fill gaps in service.

He added that investing in youth and the community is urgent work worthy of committing additional budget and funding to support. He further suggested expanding the Municipal Assistance, Solutions, and Hiring (MASH) program , and the development of a pilot program that provided paid job readiness training for at-risk youth in Pasadena.
Mr. Pickens provided information on the prior success of placing Neighborhood Outreach Workers (NOW) program participants in the MASH program.
