To the Pasadena Municipal Services Committee:
My name is Anne LaForti. I live in Pasadena, and I am a biomimicry consultant who focuses on supporting and regenerating healthy landscapes and ecosystems. Artificial turf grass is detrimental to the well-being of Pasadena's citizens and the other beings who live in our region.
Despite an unsubstantiated claim by the Parks and Recreation Department, turf grass will NOT increase conservation and/or sustainability. Is there any evidence provided by Parks and Recreation to prove the claim that it can? I'd like to see and understand how they came to that conclusion, and what research they're using to back up the statement.
I'm writing today to make sure that the City is aware that there is a sustainable alternative to artificial turf grass that DOES increase conservation and sustainability: organically managed natural turf grass. If you haven't come across this already, I highly suggest you watch this video with case study information on natural turf grass and the importance of building healthy soil through compost to combat climate change and support our local ecosystems. https://vimeo.com/userl2333190/review/938058422/8bc3b6bfe0 Thank you for your time.
