Dear ]V[ayor and Council Members,
The name change of E. Dayton Street to Troop Way is being proposed by a music promoter for a living band, and has the appearance of being a publicity stunt to advertise the band, as Central Park is being pursued by the same promoter as a music venue.

It would be more appropriate to name a performance venue in their honor, than change an historic street into an advertisement for a living music band.

Please vote NO on changing E. Dayton Street to Troop Way.

Sincerely,
Ramon Estevez

Dear Mayor Gordo, City Council Members, Public Works Department, City Staff, and City Manager, I'm reaching out to urge your consideration in renaming the Dayton street segment next to Central Park to "Troop Way." As a lifelong fan and supporter of Troop, I believe this gesture would honor not just a music group, but a legacy that has resonated with people worldwide.

Growing up in Pasadena and surrounding areas Troop's music was the soundtrack of my life. Their hits filled the airwaves and brought our community together during tough times. Whether it was cruising down Colorado Boulevard or hanging out at Central Park, Brookside Park, or Jackie Robinson Park, Troop's melodies were always there, providing comfort and joy.

But Troop's influence extends far beyond our city limits. Their music has touched the hearts of fans across the globe, uniting people from different cultures and backgrounds. Renaming a street after Troop would be a global recognition of their impact on music and culture.

Additionally, Troop's presence in Pasadena embodies the spirit and pride of our city. Alien, a member of Troop, coined the acronym "TROOP," which stands for Total Respect of Other People, reflecting their commitment to spreading positivity and unity through their music.

Moreover, Troop members have made significant contributions to the music industry. Steven, for instance, has earned several Grammy awards for his exceptional work as a producer and songwriter. His contributions to hits like "No Air," "Take You Down," "Gots Ta Be," and "Sorry 2004," among others, highlight the talent and versatility within the Troop brotherhood. Each member of Troop is not only a phenomenal performer but also a skilled songwriter and producer, showcasing the depth of talent within the group.

I am a supporter of "Troop Way." Please submit this for public comment. Let's show our appreciation for Troop's contributions and ensure their legacy continues to inspire generations to come.

I Thank you for your consideration.

I
Sincerely,
j i MonikaArmendariz-Karkoutli

I am just writing in a comment to add my name to the list of folks who do NOT want to see any portion of Dayton St. renamed.

The very notion of changing a historic street name in honor of an active musical group is very off-putting to me & seems more like a publicity stunt than a sincere desire to inform the community of this groups history.

I'd imagine a plaque or display of some sort about the group would be more informative than a street name sign anyhow but even that seems out of place for an active group.

Perhaps some kind of monument in Central Park mentioning them among other local groups that have played there would be a good compromise if this item is to move forward.

Happy Monday and thank you for your time!

Dear Members of the Pasadena City Council,
I am writing to express my strong opposition to the proposed street name change of Dayton Streetto Troop Way, which would affect the section between Fair Oaks Avenue and Raymond Avenue.

Dayton Street holds historical and cultural significance to our community. Changing its name would erase a part of our neighborhood's heritage that many residents and business owners cherish. The current name, Dayton Street, is not just a label; it represents a piece of Pasadena's history and contributes to the unique character of our city.

Moreover, the proposed street name change could lead to a cascade of practical issues. Address changes would necessitate updates to personal records, business materials, and emergency response databases, potentially causing significant disruptions. This change could not only inconvenience residents and businesses but also pose challenges for visitors unfamiliar with the new name.

Our community has united in a strong voice of opposition to this proposed change. We believe that preserving the name of Dayton Street is not just a matter of sentiment, but a crucial step in maintaining our neighborhood's identity and heritage. We stand together in this, and we hope the City Council will stand with us.

I would like the City Council to consider the sentiments of the residents and business owners directly impacted by this proposal and vote against the street name change. We respectfully request that Dayton Street remain as it is, preserving our community's historical and cultural integrity.

Thankyouforyourtime and consideration.

CITY CLERK

CITY OF PASADENA
The Honorable Victor Gordo
Members of the Pasadena City Council
Dear Mayor Gordo and Members of the City Council,
I am writing to you concerning the renaming of a street in Pasadena in honor of the legendary R&B group Troop. For over 35 years. Troop has been an ambassador of Pasadena's vibrant culture, sharing their music with millions worldwide.

Both Jon Jan Harreld and Steven Russell Harts joined Boys & Girls Club of Pasadena (Boys Club of Pasadena at that time) at an early age and spent a significant amount of time here. The Club played a crucial role in developing their craft and creativity, which set a strong foundation for their future success. Their involvement with BGCP highlights our "Great Futures Start Here" mantra, and we are proud of their accomplishments.

Troop has proudly represented Pasadena since they began their career and continues to do so today. They have a song called "Pasadena," paying tribute to their hometown. Troop has had a significant impact on the music world with multiple number-one hits, including "Spread My Wings," "All I Do is Think of You/' and "Mamacita." Lead singer Steven Russell Harts, a Grammy-winning producer and writer, has created hits like "No Air" (Jordin Sparks) and "Take You Down" (Chris Brown), further underscoring Troop's influence on the global music scene.

The group even appeared on Pop-Tarts boxes and had a popular dance named after them in the late '80s and early '90s. Troop frequently performed on "The Arsenic Hall Show," representing Pasadena with pride.

Renaming Dayton Street to Troop Way would honor these R&B legends for their contributions and their roots that run deep in Pasadena. They all grew up here and graduated from PUSD schools. Lead singer Alien McNeit coined Troop's name to mean "Total Respect of Other People," a principle they have lived by for decades.

We believe renaming Dayton Street to Troop Way could add to Pasadena's rich tapestry, celebrating its artistic spirit and community values. We respectfully request the City Council's strong consideration of this tribute to Troop and all they have meant to this community.

Renaming Dayton

Good day,
I oppose renaming of Dayton Street. It is a ridiculous demand that our Pasadena be changed because someone wants to be remembered. We should preserve the history of Pasadena and its heritage. Dayton Street has many landmarks special to Pasadena. The proposed renaming is completely unacceptable.

Imagineif every famous person that ever came out of Pasadena had a street named afterthem... I have never even heard of of the band Troop and their fifteen minutes of fame is long gone. To commemorate them with some kind of plaque or sign seems more reasonable rather than force a change onto actual Pasadena residents who wish that Dayton Street remains the same. If you Look who is pushing for this renaming, they are not even from Pasadena. How can you let non-residents make major decisions for Pasadenans? A partial renaming of the street is ludicrous as this only creates confusion.

Cordially,
HeidiJ Martorano
