RE: Special Item on the Agenda: The Charter Study Task Force recommendations June 10th council meeting.
Dear Councilemembers and Mayor and City Manager,
Please support the recommendation to establish, by ordinance, decreased campaign contribution limits to $1,000 per individual, per election, for council district races and $2,500 per individual, per election, for mayoral races. The current campaign limit of $5,500 per individual, per election is much higher than that of surrounding cities including The City of Los Angeles which represents close to 4 million residents. It also provides an unfair barrier to run for office for those residents who have less access to wealthy donors and this is damaging to our democracy.
Thank you for your support.

Dear Mr.Jomsky,
I was told that ranked choice voting might be discussed on Monday at the city Council meeting? I know I've mentioned it before, but my doctoral dissertation was on ranked choice voting and not only does it give voters more of a choice and higher turnout, but it also saves money and creates a less negative form of campaigning.
The lack of negativity was really what I studied and wrote about.
I focused on San Francisco, where they've been using it for a while, but as you know, quite a few states have also adopted it and many cities use it as well. I can provide more research if you'd like.
If there's a chance to add this to the charter, then, when the money from the county becomes available for new machines, we will be ready. I would love to see it added, please.
Thank you so much.
Sincerely,
Denise

Hi,
As a Pasadena business owner/employer of highly skilled therapists at our group practice at Greenhouse Therapy Center 913 E Walnut at Lake Avenue, I am asking Jess to consider supporting Section 1209 of the City Charter -Transition to Ranked Choice Voting once LA County Registrar develops the infrastructure capacity to do so.
Ranked Choice Voting has been successful in other nations and states andl believe it can limit the undue influence of the obscenely wealthy upon our local and national politics, allowing ideas of progress and change to be raised to the dais rather than a horserace 06/10/2024

competition for dollars which our forced choice voting system creates. It also allows for promising candidates to gain momentum more slowly over time in building a political career (like any other professional career, rather than win big or give up) - even if dollars lag behind due to wealth inequities amongst their constituents.
Please thank the highly-regarded Councilmember for her service, Andrea Davis, Ph.D., Director
