Dear Supervisor Barger and Council Members,
I'm writing to voice my support for the Romana St project. As we continue to be in a severe housing crisis we need developments like this fast. The approval process for this project which includes 99 units of senior housing took 4 years. I am asking Supervisor Barger to approve the 48 vouchers and $8 million needed so that the project is completed as soon as possible.
Thankyou all for your service to my home, Pasadena.

Hi there!
My name is Alii Burnison, and I have worked at Door of Hope, a homeless service provider, for the past 2.5 years. I have seen firsthand the challenges facing individuals and families overcoming homelessness, and believe that one of the most effective ways to meet the crisis is through preventing homelessness before it starts. Building more affordable housing will - in the long run - save the city/county hundreds of thousands.
I am writing in support of the Ramona Street Senior Housing project. Thank you, Supervisor Barger and the city council, for moving forward. Pasadena has done a lot to address the housing crisis, but we still have many unhoused people on our streets, and seniors are one of the most vulnerable groups of people at risk of losing their homes due to fixed incomes. The Ramona project is very crucial to ending homelessness in our city, so I urge you to move forward with the project.
Thankyouforyourtimeand consideration.
With gratitude,
Alii

Hello,
I am not able to attend tomorrow's meeting (3 pm, Wednesday July 24, 2024) due to work commitments but I to speak very strongly in favour of moving the Ramona Senior Supportive Housing to completion as soon as possible.
wish
It is no secret that incomes have not come anywhere close to keeping pace with the cost of housing and as a result more and more people are being forced into homelessness through no fault of their own. In particular, seniors on fixed incomes are particularly vulnerable to ending up on the streets in their remaining years. I had a very dear friend who would have been in that exact same predicament had he not been able to get a place in senior housing, which afforded him a wonderful community of friends for his last few years. He had worked hard ati his life, but was dreadfully underpaid for the valuable work he did (home health care) and he simply did not have the savings to afford market level rent.
The "housing first" option is vital as you cannot expect people to "get clean" when they are living on the streets and under tremendous stress and in constant danger. Only when they have a safe and permanent place to live can they begin to heal themselves.
We should not be "warehousing" vulnerable people in secluded areas poorly served by transit where they become isolated and unable to access goods and services and the functions of daily Life. The central location of this housing makes it ideal.
This valuable project has been held up in design reviewfora very Long time and it is high time to bring it to fruition. I commend Supervisor Barger and the City Council for continuing to move this forwards.
Sincerely,
Catherine Moroney

Support for Ramona Senior Permanent Supportive Housing

Good evening:
I am writing to support the City Council's request for Supervisor Barger to allocate $8 million and 48 vouchers for the Romans Street project. I am particularly pleased about the 99 units of affordable senior housing, half of it permanent supportive housing for unhoused seniors, that will be funded by this request, if approved.
As a resident of the San Gabriel Valley, I am acutely aware of the housing crisis that is gripping our community. We must not forget our seniors, many of whom are living on low incomes and unable to hold a job due to their advanced age. We should do everything possible to continue building more projects like Ramona Street with all possible speed. Doing so will ensure dignified and safe retirement for our senior citizens and allow them to age in place with access to services and stability. They deserve nothing less.
Thankyouforyour consideration,
Sincerely,
Thomas Tai

Dear Mayor, City Council, and Supervisor Barger,
The Ramona Street Senior Housing project is something that MhlChl has strongly supported for many years. In 2019 we were overjoyed when the city council committed to build affordable housing on the city owned property across from city hall. It was a powerful symbolic statement by the city council that Pasadena is an inclusive community by supporting senior affordable housing in the civic center.
The design is compatible with the prominent historic nature of the civic center. The developer, National CORE, has spent over $2 mitlion in pre-development costs, including patiently working over two years with the Design Commission, to make sure the building is a beautiful comptiment to the civic center.
Now it is time to move rapidly to secure the funding and get these units built.
Sincerely,
Rev. Bert Newton

To: Mayor Gordo, Members of the Pasadena City Council, and Supervisor Barger From: The Social Justice Committee, Pasadena Jewish Temple and Center Subject: Support for the expedited development of Ramona Street Senior Housing Date: July 24, 2024
Housing is an issue in the DNA of the Social Justice Committee of PJTC, thanks in no small measure to our first chairperson, Rabbi Marvin Gross (z'l). Our members are strong supporters of the Ramona Street project and hope that the multi-year process is finally coming to a fruitful conclusion.
We applaud what we understand to be the initiatives of Los Angeles County to expedite planning and permitting that encourages more developers to take on the challenge of planning and building housing that is less profitable than market-rate apartments or condos. Pasadena has work to do in matching the forward-looking policies of L.A. County.
Exemplary public-private partnership, the community-building work being done to take maximum advantage of the "710 stub," and the growing commitment to innovation in expanding the housing supply are welcome new directions that will reduce our unhoused and at-risk neighbors.
As a result of a series of our SJC meetings dedicated to thinking about housing as the solution to so many intertwined problems, we discussed the importance not only ofgovernment-supported projects but also of the private sector.
Increased supply at every level—affordable, middle income, and market rate—will create competition to drive rents down. Reducing the maze of planning, design review, etc is something that governments at the local, county, and state level can and should do.
Thank you all for your inspiring progress in making Pasadena a model of collaboration and foresight in rethinking carbon- free electricity, housing for all of our needs, and transportation.
Respectfully submitted,
Carl Selkin, co-Chair
