Good morning,
If it is not too Late, I would like to submit the following public comment for today's meeting, specifically on Agenda Item #5 and our unhoused neighbors:
I understand there is some encouragement from the Supreme Court and from the State level to take action on displacing encampments. While I understand the discomfort or fear that some may feel when seeing unhoused people and encampments, I am very concerned over the much greater harm that we will do to our community's most vulnerable population by further criminalizing and displacing them from the little shelter and support that they may have. This criminalization and removal of encampments will not improve the situation. It will only constantly displace people, making it harder to provide them with actual support and far worsening their conditions, which is bad for our City and our society as a whole.
Rather than increasing spending on policing or diverting efforts to this criminalization and displacement, I strongly support Pasadena taking a housing first approach. While developing Legislative policy, I hope the City listens to any advice coming from the people who work hard to support and uplift our unhoused neighbors.
Thankyou foryourtime,
Charles Sargent
