Thank you for the opportunity to comment on the 2024 Fireworks Mitigation Efforts Report. The statistics presented came as no surprise as PPD is not known for credible, accurate reports. It would be fair to ask how the fireworks situation appears from behind the desk at City Hall compared to living in a Pasadena neighborhood where we experience them all hours of the day.
Having worked with syndicated research as a Market Research Analyst it is a known fact that you can make the numbers "dance". That means work them to tell the story you want them to tell. It's about incidents more than calls reported or citations issued. The question on the table remains were there fewer incidents or did people feel it does no good to report them to Pasadena Police or the CSC? Were there fewer incidents that warranted citations but for one reason or another citations just weren't issued?
The annoyances continued this year like they always have. However, the harmful presence and smell of sulfur and was stronger than ever, even indoors. I travel to different parts of the Southland for the Fourth and you can hear a pin drop. I ask family and friends if they had a noisy Fourth and it is always, "no fireworks are illegal." I have Lived here twenty-five years and if it has improved, it is slightly. It is embarrassing-especially the Rose Bowl incident. Perhaps you should swallow your pride, admit you don't know what to do and seek other methods. Perhaps start by seeing what other cities are doing as they seem to have fireworks under control.
