Honorable Members of the Pasadena City Council:
I am traveling out of town or would be at the meeting to offer my comments in person. I just learned today from an article in Pasadena Now that the members of the group went to Pasadena High School and that the group formed as they were students there. I would encourage you to consider a fifth option for a commemorative plaque: Pasadena High School. This would provide an inspiration to all current and future students passing through the high school as well as an appropriate means of celebration for the alumni classmates, teachers and high school staff of the period when the group was just forming.
I encourage you to consider this fifth option of providing an appropriate commemoration of the education, creativity and inspiration of Troop at Pasadena High School.
Respectfully submitted,
Dianne Philibosian, Ph.D.

Dear Members of the City Council of Pasadena,
Subject: Petition to Honor Troop without Renaming Historic Streets I am writing to submit a petition on behalf of Pasadena residents, recommending that the City of Pasadena honor the accomplishments of the group Troop by adding a ceremonial monument in a fitting location. It is important to note that in addition to the two other neighborhood constituencies that have already opposed street name changes, residents living along Dayton Street between Fair Oaks and Raymond also oppose the proposed renaming of this street. This section of Dayton Street is part of a nationally registered Historic Landmark and an integral part of the fabric of Old Pasadena.
The petition seeks to honor Troop by adding to the· city's cultural and historic recognition rather than removing or replacing an existing monument. The current MonumentPolicy does not contemplate the removal of any city street names or monuments but focuses on the addition ofnew ones that reflect our community. Why remove a cherished part of Pasadena's history when there are many more appropriate ways to honor Troop or any other distinguished group?
City staff has !l]ready determine) tllat renaming City of Pasadena streets is an incredibly rare occurrence and should be reserved for the highest community-wide standards. Without such high standards in place, the city risks facing subjective decisions that may not align with the broader desires of Pasadena residents and are opposed by local 1 constituencies. In the current informational staff report to the City's Legislative Policy committee, there is a comparison of other municipalities' policy on street renaming. What it does not include is the actual application of those policies. How those policies are just as important as the policy itself. Renaming of street names in those cities have been rare and are limited to the most significant cultural and historic contributions and associations.
We respectfully ask that the City continues to add cultural or historic honors through the existing Monument Policy, without diminishing or taking away other historically or culturally significant places. The renaming of a historic street is not contemplated in any current street renaming or monument policy, and it is our belief that it should not be.
Thank you for your consideration of this petition. We trust that you will uphold Pasadena's rich history and cultural integrity by adhering to the standards outlined in the Monument Policy.
Sincerely,
A~· ··

To the Recreation and Parks Commission and the City Council of Pasadena, We, the undersigned, respectfully submit this petition to express our support for honoring the musical band Troop in a meaningful way but to formally oppose the option of renaming Dayton Street. While recognizing the band's contributions, renaming Dayton Street between Fair Oaks and Raymond is not an appropriate option.
Dayton Street lies within the Old Pasadena Historic District, a key area representing our city's architectural and cultural heritage. Altering the name of a street within this historic district could undermine the preservation of Pasadena's historical integrity and diminish the character of this beloved neighborhood. Additionally, Dayton Street between Raymond and Fair Oaks is part of a nationally registered Historic Landmark that includes Castel Green, Green Hotel, and Central tark.
As City staff has already concluded, renaming City of Pasadena streets is an incredibly rare occurrence, and should be held to the highest community wide standard. Without a policy that includes high standards, the City will be faced with making frequent subjective decisions that are not necessarily supported by Pasadena residents but are opposed by local constituencies.
Neither the Monument Policy nor any other City policy contemplates deleting of removing any part of Pasadena that is culturally or historically significant. That policy is meant to ADD to the culture or history, not take away another ..
Dayton Street has long been an integral part of Pasadena's identity and history. Modifying its name could lead to logistical issues, such as the readdressing of properties, disruption to way:finding, and the costs associated with altering street signs, maps, and directories. We believe that such a change would have a greater negative impact than positive recognition.
We appreciate·the City Council's and Recreation and Parks Commission's efforts to find ways to celebrate Troop's contributions to Pasadena's musical heritage and respectfully request that the option to rename Dayton Street be withdrawn.
Thank you for your attention and for allowing public input on this matter.
Sincerely,

Hello,
With respect to Troop, my hope is that the City Council can find amother monument or road to honor them with instead of changing the name of Dayton street, which has the most recognizable and famous Pasadena landmark attached to it, the Castle Green.
Troop's history is admirable, but we shouldn't have to erase part of the history of Pasadena's famous Castle Green to honor Troop's.
Thanks so much for your time,
Corrie Coughlin

Dear Members of the City Council,
I am writing on behalf of Pasadena Heritage to reaffirm our opposition to the proposed renaming of Dayton Street, located just south of the Castle Green. While we fully support recognizing Troop for their contributions to Pasadena's musical heritage, we believe renaming Dayton Street, a historically significant area in Old Pasadena, is not the best approach. We continue to support the Castle Green Homeowners Association in their call to preserve Dayton Street's name and protect the historical integrity of the District.
Pasadena h4eritage fully supports the alternative options under consideration, such as installing a plaque at Central Park or the Pasadena Civic Auditorium. Both locations have meaningful connections to Troop's history, as the group performed and practiced in Central Park and has ties to the Civic Auditorium. These options would appropriately honor Troop while preserving the historic significance of Old Pasadena.
We respectfully urge the Council to select an option that celebrates Troop's contributions in a way that aligns with both Pasadena's rich cultural history and the preservation of its historic sites.
Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,

Opposition to E. Dayton Street Renaming to Troop Way; for tonight's Council Meeting vote.

Dear Mayor and Council Members,
As a Pasadena resident who lives in the historic Castle Green, one of only two buildings on E.
Dayton Street — both buildings on E. Da^on Street being Nationally Registered Buildings in a Nationally Register Historic Neighborhood — my neighbors and I ask you not to change the historic name of E. Dayton Street to Troop Way.
E. Dayton Street was named by the pioneer, Mrs. J. H. Baker, and her husband, two of the original founders of Pasadena, for Mrs. Baker's home town. Her historic street has a long and illustrious history in Pasadena, giving this section of Old Pasadena the name "The Dayton Street District" in many historic references.
We do not wish for our historic street name to be changed to Troop Way to promote and publicize the 1980s music group Troop, with no historic context or significant association with our street.
Pasadena Heritage, the Castle Green Homeowners Association, and all major stake holders of this street are opposed to this name change, and in favor of preserving Mrs. Baker's historic name of E. Dayton Street.
Thanking for preserving our historic street name.
We also do not wish to have the historic streets to our west and east, Fair Oaks Avenue and Raymond Avenue, renamed, as has been recently proposed.
Both of these streets have a long historic presence in Pasadena and the Old Pasadena historic district, since its founding. Raymond Avenue once lead to the majestic Raymond Hotel on 10/21/2024
Item 15
1 Raymond Hill, first built by Walter Raymond in 1886 as the first major resort hotel in Pasadena and the San Gabriel Valley.
Walter Raymond and his Hotel Raymond — as well as Colonel Green and his Hotel Green, further up Raymond Avenue — were instrumental not only in the origins of our city, but were key contributors to the founding of the Pasadena Tournament of Roses.
All three streets — Fair Oaks Avenue, E. Dayton Street and Raymond Avenue — where part of the original Rose Parade route, which circled the Hotel Green and continued up Raymond, and gave the residence a front row seats to the Rose Parade that brought people from all across America, and helped put our city on the map. These three streets are a part of that long heritage, and should be preserved.
Sincerely,
David Woodbury

Dear City Council,
My name is Amy White and I am a Pasadena resident Living in Castle Green. Thankyou forthe opportunity to be heard on the matter of the proposed renaming of Dayton Street.
As a resident of Castle Green I am not a supporter of renaming Dayton for reasons historic and practical.
I voiced those concerns prior to the last City Council meeting that covered the topic.
I was able to listen to discussion online and now have a greater appreciation for the band Troop and why there is a desire to honor them. Now my lack of support for the name change also includes the feeling that it isn't enough, and that a more obvious/visible acknowledgement of Troop is a better option. I personally like the idea of the plaque placed at central park-a plaque carries with it the story of why Troop is being honored and why Central Park is an important location in their history. Changingthe name of the street doesn't offer the same level of honor and purpose as the plaque does.
So count me among those who do not support the Dayton change but whole heartedly support a plaque placed in Central Part that tells the story of Troop and gives them their due honor.
Thankyou,
Amy

E. Dayton Street name change is a publicity stunt to advertise a music group.
Dear Council Members,
The name change ofE. Dayton Street ^o Troop Way is being proposed by a music promoter for a living band, and has the appearance of being a publicity stunt to advertise the band, as Central Park is being pursued by the same promoter as a music venue.
It would be more appropriate to name a performance venue in their honor, than change an historic street into an advertisement for a living music band.
Please vote NO on changing E. Dayton Street to Troop Way.

Dear City Council Members,
I am writing to ask that you not rename Dayton Street. It has historical significance to the many residents of Castle Green. I lived there in the 1970s and looked out my window at Dayton street where in years gone by horse drawn carriages parked and used the water trough at the comer. Pasadena is known in Californian for it's historical character which includes not only the history but the names of the places that have existed for over 100 years.
I hope that you will continue to preserve the character of our beautiful city for years to come and that you maintain the name of Dayton Street.
Thank you,
