Subject Plan check and Permit Fees For Fire Victimes
Message After evacuating our kids, my wife, 2 neighbors and I, saved our and our neighbors' homes after fighting the Eaton fire until 6am. Unfortunately, all our detached structures and fences burned down, and we've been displaced due to the extensive remediation and debris clearance needed.
Much of our contents are totaled, adding to the costly and time consuming process.
Like many of our impacted neighbors, we look forward to rebuilding and returning, and have started that process. Even with partial burn downs, there are many more costs than just that of construction, which has outpaced insurance limits in this event. Before shovels hit the ground, there's additional costs associated in hiring a surveyor, notaries, architects, engineers, and plan check and permit fees.
We appreciate the consideration of discounts or waiving plan check and permit fees for those impacted and it be done retroactive for those who have started the process. We understand there is a cost for plan check staff and building inspectors, however believe this would be a worthy investment by the city in rebuilding the character and community of Pasadena by its own residents.
