I'm am so excited for the Cities Greenways plan, I am a bike commuter from District 2 who uses Craig now to get to work. The greenways will open up cycling to more people who want to and need to cycle.
And ensure students have safer routes to school (a need I've seen when I was a PUSD substitute teacher)
When I was in High school I didn't have a safe greenway to school, and almost lost my front teeth in a bike accident which discouraged me from using a mobility solution that was a nice part of my life. (My braces luckily saved my teeth from greater harm)
These four streets are not major throughways when I drive around Pasadena and are critical green infrastructure that we should invest in. I will always prefer to walk or bike on the greenways and the investments to make them even safer for everyone will be a great one.
If they save one life (or set of teeth) they'll be worth it. I want to see All ages and Abilities greenways for safer and better neighborhood streets.

Hi, my name is Jesus Molina and I live in District 6 (91105). I am writing in support of the Greenways and the all ages and abilities initiative to create safe neighborhood streets for my wife and I. We also plan to have kids and would love the opportunity to take my kids to school or park by bike via the greenways.
I understand there will be some concern about emergency vehicles, but at this stage in the project's course, city staff have already planned for emergency vehicle mitigation.
Lastly, I've always seen Pasadena as a city of innovation, this project would be another mark in that direction.
Thankyou foryourtime,

Dear Pasadena City Council,
I am a 8 year resident of Pasadena, who regularly uses all four forms of transpiration: car, bus/train, walk, bicycle, and I strong support the creation of Greenways on the the four streets under consideration. These adjustments to the four streets will make all of those who use the city's streets safer and more efficient, regardless of the age or ability of the user. I have biked, walked, and driven on all of these streets and know firsthand how their greenway designation will be a substantial improvement in the quality of life in Pasadena. I have complete confidence in the city's planners who have proposed these modifications for the four streets in question. I have lived for many years in both Vienna, Austria, and The Hague, the Netherlands, and I have seen firsthand how appropriately designed streets can work for all residents.
Thank you for listening to my comments; I urge support for this important project.

Dear Honorable Members of Pasadena City Council,
As residents of Highland Parkin Los Angeles, my family (2/3 of whom were born in Pasadena at Huntington Hospital) and I do much of our shopping and dining in Pasadena. When we are able to, we ride our bikes to do so. My toddler loves her bike seat and cries when she has to go in her car seat instead. We love whizzing past the long lines of traffic to events at the Rose Bowl or taking the beautiful protected bike lanes on Union to the Playhouse Village park and to shop at Vroman's. We also attend Quaker meeting at Orange Grove Monthly Meeting at Orange Grove and Oakland, and we sometimes ride to Quaker meeting on the one bike lane across the 210 on Marengo, although we haven't done it since ourtoddlerwas born because it doesn't feel very safe.
Unfortunately, once you cross from LA into Pasadena, it just doesn't feel as safe to ride a bike because there aren't many bike lanes. We would definitely come to Pasadena even more and spend even more money if we could get around more easily by bike. Two big obstacles are a lack of north-south connections to the bikeway on Union and a Lack of connections across the 210. The safe greenways plan provides a solution to both of these issues. Our family would love to be able to use El Molino to connect between places like OGMM and our favorite park. I encourage the city to adopt designs that slow traffic and protect cyclists of all ages such as removing excess lanes, installing traffic diverters and speed humps, and adding curb extensions and/or neighborhood traffic circles. I hope the city will move this greenway plan forward.
Thankyou,
Kyle Kramer

Dear Pasadena City Council members,

I am writing today in support of the four streets planned as Greenways (EL Molino, Wilson, Sierra Bonita, and Craig). These are the four lowest-volume streets that cross the 210 freeway, which makes them a natural choice for walking and hiking, and therefore, essential to our city's hiking network. Thousands of people ride bikes in Pasadena already and about 60% say they would like to ride a bike sometimes, but need safe spaces to do so. Pasadena's mostly flat and wide streets make it an ideal bike-friendly city. Pasadena has the potential to Lead the way in being one of the most accessible, safe, and bike-friendly cities in LA County.
Speed cushions with emergency vehicle cut-throughs are a simple, low-cost traffic calming tool. They should be allowed on the Greenways. Please update the Pasadena speed hump policy to allow speed cushions on the Greenways.
Everyone wants to live on a safe, quiet street. Residents always want people to drive slowly in front of their homes. Building safe greenways will slow down drivers on four neighborhood streets, and so will be very popular with residents who live along those streets.
The Greenways will provide safe routes to schools, and give students transportation options. That's why the PUSD school system, as well as PCC, Caltech, Polytechnic, and the Seqoyah school all support All Ages and Abilities Greenways. Kids thrive when they get the independence, fun, and exercise of getting themselves to school.

We are not fooled by misinformation from anti-safety advocates. City staff always plan for emergency vehicle access in any project. The greenways will allow residents to drive on them, so people can easily reach their homes. And, It is nonsense to think that slowing traffic on a few neighborhood streets will somehow cause traffic problems.
Thank you for your consideration and for helping make Pasadena a safe city for families and children.

Hi,
I work in Pasadena at Caltech and I am writing in favor of the much needed north south greenways in particularly El Molino and Wilson, which would help with bike commuting from South Pasadena, as well as further streets to the east, Bonita and Craig.
I am excited about finally having north-south options for Greenways in Pasadena.

Hello,
My name is Lai Sam, and I am a Pasadena resident. I want to see All Ages and Abilities greenways built to create safe neighborhood streets.
•The four streets planned as Greenways - El Molino, Wilson, Sierra Bonita, and Craig - are the four lowest-volume streets that cross the 210 freeway. That makes them a natural choice for walking and biking, and essential for our city's hiking network. •The Greenways have outstanding community support! Over 1000 people have signed petitions of support and written over 270 comments. Plus, 17 local organizations have endorsed All Ages & Abilities Greenways, including the PUSD school board, the League of Women Voters, the NAACP, the Accessibility and Disability Commission, the Environmental Advisory Commission, and the Transportation Advisory Commission. • Greenways make streets safer while allowing access for cars and emergency vehicles. Simple traffic calming, like speed bumps with emergency vehicle cut-throughs, reduce speeding while providing access for everyone.
• Thousands of people ride bikes in Pasadena already. But, most people - about 60% - say they would like to ride a bike sometimes, but need safe spaces to do so. More hiking trips frees up parking spaces for drivers, reduces traffic, and makes our city more accessible and vibrant.
This has worked in other cities, and it will work here too! • Speed cushions with emergency vehicle cut-throughs are a simple, low-cost traffic calming tool. They should be allowed on the Greenways. Please update the Pasadena speed hump policy to allow speed cushions on the Greenways.
• Everyone wants to live on a safe, quiet street. Residents always want people to drive slowly in front of their homes. Building safe greenways will slow down drivers on four neighborhood streets, and so will be very popular with residents who live along those streets. 108/25/2025

Kids thrive when they get the independence, fun, and exercise of getting themselves to school. • The Greenways can't cause traffic problems in the city, because they carry a tiny amount of traffic -just a few percent of north/south travel. Besides the greenways, Pasadena has 12 high-volume north/south streets that carry over 200,000 cars per day across the 210 freeway.
Building the greenways will not change any of these 12 high volume streets and so traffic will still flow freely.
• We are not fooled by misinformation from anti-safety advocates. City staff always plan for emergency vehicle access in any project. The greenways will allow residents to drive on them, so people can easily reach their homes. And, It is non-sense to think that stowing traffic on a few neighborhood streets will somehow cause traffic problems.

Dear Pasadena City Council Members and Department of Transportation Team, Re: Strong Support for All-Ages & Abilities Greenways—Please Prioritize Safety, Connectivity, and Equity
I am writing as a committed Pasadena resident—and a passionate advocate for safer, more accessible, and inclusive streets—to express my wholehearted support for the All-Ages& Abilities Greenways project and to urge you to prioritize expanded bike lanes, pedestrian safety enhancements, and accessibility measures for people of all ages and mobility levels.
I am thrilled that Pasadena is advancing the Greenways initiative on El Molino, Wilson, Sierra Bonita, and Craig Avenues, adapting a multimodal plan that emphasizes walking, hiking, and other modes of transportation for everyday trips—rather than continuing to only prioritize cars on residential streets.
These corridors are among the few north-south low-volume routes that cross the 210 Freeway, making them uniquely vital to the city's active transportation network.
What excites me most is the commitment to NACTO's "A//^ges&^M/t/es" design standards, which set benchmarks such as maintaining vehicle speeds under 20 MPH (or 25 MPH in very low-volume contexts) and keepingvehicle volumes under specified thresholds. These guidelines are recognized nationallyfor enabling safe and inclusive street design.
Moreover, the extensive community engaging and backing for this project — evidenced by the >1 ,000 petition signatures, more than 270 public comments, and endorsements from at least 17 respected local groups (including the PUSD Board of Education, Caltech, the League of Women Voters, the Accessibility & Disability Commission, and the Environmental Advisory Commission) — underscores the strong desire for safer streets.
Given that hundreds of residents from parents and their children, seniors, students, and people with disabilities stand to benefit, I respectfully urge the following:
1. Finalize and implement the contract for Greenways design immediately, using the full funding from Metro to build momentum and public trust.
108/25/2025
ITEM 6
2. Ensure the Greenways meet "All-Ages & Abilities" standards, including speed reductions, traffic calming features, quality crossings, and signaling enhancements to support people of diverse abilities.
3. Include dedicated bike lanes and pedestrian amenities—such as clear striping, green "conflict zone" paint, curb extensions, median islands, lighting, and safe crossings—to enhance safety and usability for non-car road users.
4. Incorporate quick-build treatments—like traffic circles, speed cushions (with emergency vehicle cut-throughs), diverters, and bike boxes—on El Molino and Craig first. These temporary installations will help gather feedback and optimize designs before permanent construction.
5. Ensure the network caters especially to vulnerable groups—children walking or hiking to school, older adults, people with disabilities, and residents without car access by integrating audible signals, Leading Pedestrian Intervals (LPIs), and Accessible Pedestrian Signals (APS) at crossings where warranted.
Adopting these measures will ensure Pasadena leads in safe, equitable mobility and supporting healthier, more vibrant neighborhoods where people of all ages and abilities can walk, bike, and connect with ease. Above all, it's a tangible win for climate action, public health, and community resilience.
I thank the Council for their consideration of this measure and hope they continue to demonstrate their leadership in shaping a future where streets that work for all. I Look forward to seeing these Greenways implemented swiftly, safely, and inclusively.
Sincerely,
Seneca Veiling
Pasadena Resident (N. Oak Knoll)

Hello,
I am a Pasadena resident and I am writing to support the implementation of the Pasadena Greenways project, including safe protected bike lanes and accessible walkways. I commute by walking or hiking, and I am often in dangerous situations where I am nearly hit by a car. This is especially true going north/ south, for example on streets Like Wilson, where the bike lanes are not protected, have many points of conflict with parked cars, and the intersections are very dangerous.
I believe the Pasadena Greenways project will Lead to a safer, Greener city in which active transportation is a viable option for more residents. I would like to see it implemented fully, and more projects like it carried out in the near future.
Thankyou,

Greetings,
I am a resident of Altadena and a frequent biker. My family and I love to go places on bike when we can. The bike ride from our house to Pasadena is mostly pleasant and the distance and elevation change is not too much for us. The hardest part is crossing the 210 right near old town Pasadena. That can feel harrowing.
North-South Greenways would be a huge improvement and would definitely increase the number of trips to Pasadena by bicycle I would make, including ones hiking with my 10 and 13 year old children.
Because we live in West Altadena, the El Molino greenway would be the closest to us and would provide a nice route that connects our area with the Union St bikeway and all the retail, restaurants, and community events in Pasadena. Especially of interest to me is the safe bike crossing of the 210-the buffered bike lanes and the bike turn boxes at both the Villa and Corson intersections. That will be a huge safety improvement.
Connecting neighborhoods with the city center so that all ages and abilities can walk or bike in Pasadena would really make the area shine.
In addition, it makes a lot of sense to add traffic calming on neighborhood North-South streets. I'd be in favor of speed humps with emergency vehicle cut throughs, which would calm any downhill traffic to the posted speeds and make all road users and residents feel more comfortable on their streets. Let's make this happen! Jennifer Whitehead

Hello City Council members,
My name is Rachel Tutak and I live at 582 N El Molino Ave with my husband and two dogs (and a baby on the way). I also work from home and spend 99% of my time at my house, on El Motino (and surrounding streets) walking my two dogs multiple times a day, or enjoying local pasadena favorites also located on El Molino (the Playhouse, Basecamp Fitness, the stand, Spaces co-working space). One of my favorite things about Pasadena and where we live is the walkability or bikeability to all the things Pasadena has to offer. It's one of the reasons we bought our house here in the first place. The easiest way (but not the safest way) for us to get to these Locations is by heading South on El Molino via walking or by bike. There is a reason cars speed up and down El Molino much over the speed limit, it's because it is convenient to get to major destinations on Colorado and south of the 210. This convenience also applies to people walking or hiking; however, using El Molino to get around as a pedestrian is incredibly unsafe, but people still have to get around - thus bikes and e-scooters are used almost exclusively on the narrow sidewalks.
When I walk my dogs I am always dodging people on the sidewalks as they bike or scooter to work or home. I understand why they use it (due to dangerous road conditions), but it is very unsafe for people walking on sidewalks. This could all be avoided if we just slowed down traffic on El Molino and made the roads more accessible for pedestrians who want to bike. scooter or walk vs driving. In fact, the one time I did try to bike to Basecamp Fitness down El Molino, I was hit by a driver who wasnt paying attention and turned quickly off El Molino without seeing me (luckily i was ok, but I went flying over my handlebars and broke my bike). I am now nervous to ride my bike, even as an experienced rider and someone who prefers to be outside to get around (we should be able to enjoy the year-round outdoor living that Pasadena offers!)
Lastly, El Molino and its adjacent streets are home to many service-based homes, including Elizabeth House and multiple homes for disabled adults. I see many of these residents walking with their children/babies and with their caregivers on El molino while cars whiz past. I myself am pregnant and I am worried about where I will walk with my future children, El Molino continues to get busier and faster with no end insight.
I hope you read this and consider supporting and passing All Ages and Abilities Greenways, making Pasadena safer for all residents for years to come.
Thankyou foryourtime and consideration.

My name is Josh Becker and I live and work on North El Molino between Villa and Orange Grove. El Molino is our street and it's full of families, people walking their dogs, and a handful of social sen/ices housing for disabled, retired, and mentally-challenged individuals.
This should be a pedestrian-friendly, walkable street. However. I feel like i'm putting my Life in jeopardy when I ride my bike to the Playhouse distric because of the speeding cars flying up and down El Molino. North EL Molino Ave is desperately in need of speed bumps, a bike lane, anything to reduce the speeding cars running the red lights at Villa or Orange Grove.
I saw 3 BAD accidents at the corner of Villa and North ElMolino in the last few months. This is the same intersection with 2 retirement communities and elderly folks walking and getting their exercise.
Please do something to make North El Molino safer for the families, dogs, and elderly folks that call it home.

Dear City Council,
I am a resident of Pasadena and a homeowner on N El Molino Ave. I am writing to voice my strong support for the greenways. I want to see All Ages and Abilities greenways built to create safe neighborhood streets.
All ages and abilities greenways will provide a huge benefit to residents by making these streets safer while still allowing access for cars and emergency vehicles. The four streets for greenways are already low traffic volume streets, so these greenways are also likely to help traffic flow by enabling more people to safely walk and bike. Personally, I bicycle rather than drive to Old Town whenever possible (typically down El Molino Ave.) but often feel unsafe doing so due to speeding cars and a lack of any dedicated bike lane. CrossingWashington Ave. on EL Molino feels like an especially dangerous intersection on a bicycle, as there is no bicycle lane to enable southbound travel so you are forced to either ride on the heavily trafficked Washington, or dismount and walk across the crosswalk as a pedestrian. I love the new Union Street bicycle path, but in order for it to be effectively used there needs to be safe North/South connections to it. ALL ages and abilities greenways would go a long way to making Old Town and other areas of Pasadena more accessible on foot/bicycle, be a huge improvement for residents, and at the same time help Pasadena with its Climate Action Plan.
Thankyou,
Casey Benkwitt

To the Pasadena City Council,
I am a Pasadena resident, parent, and business owner and I care deeply about the safety and livability of our neighborhoods. I am writing to urge you to move forward with building All Ages and Abilities Greenways.
These greenways will make our streets safer and more welcoming while still allowing access for cars and emergency vehicles. The four streets planned—EL Molino, Wilson, Sierra Bonita, and Craig—are the lowest-volume streets that cross the 210 freeway. They are natural choices for walking and hiking, and essential connections in Pasadena's bicycle network.
The support for this project is remarkable. Over 1,000 residents have signed petitions and more than 270 have submitted comments. Seventeen local organizations have endorsed the greenways, including the PUSD school board, PCC, Caltech, the League of Women Voters, the NAACP, the Accessibility and Disability Commission, the Environmental Advisory Commission, and the Transportation Advisory Commission. This level of broad community support is rare and speaks for itself.
Greenways calm traffic with simple, proven measures like speed cushions with emergency vehicle cut- throughs. These reduce dangerous speeding while keeping streets fully accessible. Every resident wants drivers to go slower in front of their home; greenways deliver exactly that.
Thousands of people already ride bikes in Pasadena, and surveys show about 60% of people would ride more often if they felt safer. Safe bike routes free up parking, ease congestion, and create a more vibrant city. This approach has worked in other cities, and it will work here.
The greenways also provide safe routes to schools. Students at PUSD, PCC, Caltech, Polytechnic, and Sequoyah will gain independence, exercise, and reliable options for getting to school. Families benefit when children can safelywalk or bike.
Importantly, these projects will not disrupt traffic. Greenways carry only a tiny fraction of north-south travel. Pasadena has 12 major north-south streets crossing the 210 freeway that carry over 200,000 cars each day. Those streets will remain unchanged and continue to carry the city's traffic flow. 108/25/2025

Opponents who suggest otherwise are spreading misinformation. City staff already plan for emergency access in every project, and residents will always be able to drive to and from their homes. Slowing traffic on a handful of low-volume neighborhood streets will not create citywide traffic problems.
I urge you to update Pasadena's speed hump policy to allow speed cushions on the greenways and to move forward with building them. These projects reflect Pasadena's values: safe, quiet streets, better routes for children and families, and a more connected and accessible city for all.
Thank you for your leadership and for prioritizing the safety and health of Pasadena residents.
Sincerely,
Hanah Leona Cota

Hello,
I am a homeowner on CraigAvenue and I support changes to calm traffic on the street and increase safety. The current amount of traffic is high on my residential street, and people speed often on Craig Avenue despite the 25 mph zone my house is in. The greenway proposal will help to address those issues, and I am in support. Please vote yes.
Thanks,

Dear Pasadena City Council Members,
As Pasadena residents and PUSD parents who care deeply about the safety of our streets, especially safe access to local schools, we are writing to share our support for neighborhood 'greenways' in Pasadena.
Walking and bicycling are healthy, affordable, and sustainable ways to get around town. Yet these modes of transportation are only truly viable if they are safe and accessible for people of all ages and abilities.
Neighborhood greenways have the potential to make our community healthier, safer, and more vibrant by providing safer routes for people to walk, bike, skate, scoot, and drive along.
Please support the implementation of Pasadena's first neighborhood greenways! The Reutimann Family

Hi Mayor Gordo and Councilmember Lyon,
As a long time Pasadena resident, father of a small child, friend and a good neighbor, I want to see All Ages and Abilities greenways built to create safe neighborhood streets for everybody. I want a city that functions and actually delivers on the promises it makes - in this case making our streets safer for everyone includingfamilies and children.
And fortunately I'm not alone! The Greenways have robust community support! Over 1,000 people have signed petitions of support and written over 270 comments. 17 local organizations have endorsed All Ages & Abilities Greenways, including; PUSD school board
League of Women Voters
NAACP
Accessibility and Disability Commission
Environmental Advisory Commission
Transportation Advisory Commission

My friends and neighbors have seen too many horrific incidents of traffic violence take place in the city, too many of our neighbors have been killed or been injured by reckless drivers and our outdated poorly designed streets. Lots of people walk and bike in Pasadena and more would but they don't feel safe. It's the responsibility of the city to use and adopt proven safety features/designs to make our streets safer. If other cities can do it, so can we!!!
My family only has one car (this allows us to afford to live in Pasadena w/ it's inflated housing costs). We use an e-cargo-bike to transport our small child around the city - it's out of necessity and my son really loves it! Wilson Ave and El Molino have been our main north south connections and oftentimes we don't feel safe especially when traveling with our child - largely due to aggressive driving behaviors. The proposed designs will make the streets safer for my family, my friends and my neighbors. I truly look forward to my son growing up in a city that cares about his ability to move freely, safety and independently and I believe the Greenways is a step towards that direction.
Sincerely,
TopherMathers

Good afternoon,
As a resident of Wilson Avenue and a previous resident of El Molino, I am not in support of Greenways on these streets.
I walk daily around my neighborhood and have not once felt in harms way of the cars or traffic. While I can't speak for bike riders, I don't find the vehicle traffic to be an issue for pedestrians. As a matter of fact, the addition of stoplights on Union has created slower traffic and a backup of cars going north on Wilson Ave. I regularly have to wait 2-3 light cycles to simply pull out of my driveway because of the multitude of cars at a complete stop waiting for the light to turn green.
The bike lanes on Union and Cordova have been great, however I don't believe reducing the ability for cars to pass through our already-narrow two lane North South roads would be beneficial to our community. I disagree with the supporters' point that the four designated streets carry "a tiny amount of traffic". Wilson Ave, El Molino Ave, Sierra Bonita Ave, and Craig Ave are veins utilized by local community members to commute from our homes to our markets, schools, work, parks, and get to our freeways. Reduction of usage of these streets will lead to greater traffic jams on Lake, Hill, and other main boulevards in our community.
As a directly affected community member, please join me in opposing this initiative. 1 08/25/2025

Hi there,
I'm Becky Hartung-a Pasadena resident and bike rider in District 2.1 fully support the implementation of Greenways along El Molino, Wilson, Sierra Bonita, and Craig Avenues. These Greenways will lower speeds, reduce cut-through traffic, and create safe, quiet neighborhood streets for everyone—including children, people with disabilities, and daily commuters navigating on foot or by bike.
As we discuss solutions for our growing climate crisis, one that is clear is promoting multimodal transportation to reduce our car use in our city. Allowing more neighbors to walk or bike can decrease emissions from cars. To get folks to bike and walk more, they need to feel safe hiking. The Greenways is a great project to allow some streets in our city to have safer places to ride/walk.
I urge your support for the Greenways in Pasadena.

Hello,
I just read that Pasadena is considering developing four N/S greenways and I wanted to voice my excitement and support! I have friends who are afraid to ride bikes because of cars and this would be an amazing way to get more people active and improve safe travel and infrastructure. To be quite honest I would Love to see more than four and east/west integration as well, in the future! Protective physical infrastructure can't happen soon enough.

Hello,
I am writing in support of the greenways. I live just north of Washington off Hill and like to make use of the Union Bike lane. However, it is dangerous to use Hill to get to Union, the Cara go far above the speed limit and there is not much room on the sides.
Instead, I use Sierra Bonita to bike north/south. The streets are less busy and the cars are slower. The intersection at Orange grove is a little tough to navigate, but it is overall a much better experience
Thanks

Hello,
I'm a Pasadena resident who lives on Washington Blvd next to EL Molino and I support All Ages and Abilities greenways. I walk my dog on El Molino everyday and it's a welcome respite from the volume of traffic on Washington Blvd.
Even though El Molino is a considerably quieter street than Washington, I still see people speeding on it every day. The most alarming thing I've seen cars do is completely blow the stop sign on El Molino/CLaremont St in order to make the light on Washington, which I've seen multiple times. I feel that the street would be much safer, especially for pedestrians and cyclists with the simple traffic calming measures proposed bygreenways.
A safe bike path on El Molino would also make me take up hiking! I would love to bike as an alternate form of transportation but currently I don't feel that there are safe enough routes next to my apartment.
I sincerely hope that the proposed greenways plan can move forward.
Thankyou,
Cala Murry

I am writing in support of the city approving the contract that is before the City Council to move forward with design of the four designated Greenways.
I live and work in Pasadena, and I walk, bike, and drive here. I've been waiting for a LONG time for a better bike network for getting around the city. I use the Union bike lane, and sometimes Cordova, but it can be challenging to figure out exactly how to get to where I want to go (other than to a destination on those streets) without risking my life by putting myself way too close to cars that are going 35 or 40 mph.
It was GREAT that Metro funded the Greenways (among other projects). Once they're designed and improvements are made to El Molino, Craig, Sierra Bonita and Wilson, I have no doubt that we'll see more people walking and hiking (and scootering and even roller skating) on those streets, and likewise fewer crashes. They're great choices for Greenways: most of them already have less traffic, there are a lot of residential stretches, and they all cross the 210 freeway.
I understand that the goal of the Greenways projects is to bring down the speed of traffic on those streets, reduce the number of cars, and make those streets safer and more comfortable for people of all ages and abilities. Slower cars make it safer for EVERYONE, including drivers.
Nay sayers who worry about emergency response times are clearly ignorant of existing City procedures. I understand that all street changes are reviewed by the Fire Department, and that any speed humps that will be installed in the future will have cutouts for emergency vehicles.
Rhetoric about costs is ridiculous. Street and highway construction and maintenance are a LOT more expensive than features like speed cushions and diverters. Street maintenance is cheaper when there are lower traffic volumes on a street - there's less wear and tear. And how about the incalculable cost of injuries and deaths on our streets? Not to mention the health expenses that people will avoid because they walk and bike more and there's less air pollution (and less asthma and lung cancer) because there are fewer cars on our roads.
108/25/2025

One more hard-to-count cost: the time spent by parents dropping off their kids by car that will be reclaimed if some of those kids can bike to school. No wonder PUSD is in favor of All Ages and Abilities Greenways.
Thanks in advance for doing the right thing and moving this project forward.
Sincerely,
Liz Schiller

Please add this comment to the record for the above-cited topic. Thanks very much.
It is my understanding that the City is considering awarding a nearly $1,100,000 contract for developing four greenways (Craig, EL Molino, Sierra Bonita, Wilson) on Monday, August 25. (The base contract for the initial phase is apparently around $590,000.)
Several years ago, the City considered a road diet that would have been disastrous for Orange Grove. It would've caused many problems in terms of EMS delays, sending traffic into neighboring streets, traffic delays on the road in question (i.e., Orange Grove), etc. Rational discussion occurred, and itwas decided that this was not the way forward, and that the negatives outweighed the positives.
From all the information that has been provided thus far, the negatives also outweigh the positives for the four greenways. I strongly encourage the City to shelve this topic, or at the very least take another Look at it before moving forward. The majority of city residents are unaware of it, and of the ones who are aware of it, the majority are against it. That tells us something.
At this point, it is more important to spend our taxpayer dollars on repairing streets, sidewalks, and other infrastructure projects.
As a side note, I am a bicyclist, but before we add more bike lanes, we need to see the data as to how many bikes are using Union and Cordova. This should be relatively easy data to provide. I think everyone can agree, before we expand a program we want to see conclusively that these bike lanes are carrying significant bike traffic and do not have unintended negative side effects. My personal experience with both of these streets so far is that they are essentially unused by bikes.
Thankyou.

City Council -
My apologies, I accidentally hit "send" before I meant to.
Please allow me to begin again.
I am a long time Pasadena resident. I'm also a product of PUSD and PCC, as well as a volunteer in the community.
I am in FAVOR of the GREENWAY initiative.
Having neighborhoods that are accessible to all people and that create safe streets where people can walk, bike and drive safely is imperative. The streets being considered (El Molino, Wilson, Sierra Bonita, and Craig) seem perfectly suitable for the project. Additionally, these are the only north-south bike routes in the City's bicycle plan. That means they must be safe and accessible for bikers, riders, and motorists.
Greenways can also be designed in such a way as to not cause traffic jams nor impede emergency vehicles.
I would also advocate that the Greenways be designed to add actual greenery - - trees, bushes, plants.
Let's make the Greenways not only safe routes but beautiful ones too.
Please vote YES on the GREENWAY initiative.
Thank you for Listening.

Hi City Council -
I'm a long time Pasadena resident and home owner.
I'm writing to you to express my support of the Greenway initiative that is being considered. I believe that Pasadena would benefit from being more of a walkable city, including making it safer for pedestrians, children, bikers, and motorists.
I wish we could go back in time to design the City of Pasadena similarly to that of many European cities that have open walking spaces. How lovelywould it have been had Colorado/Green St. been designed as large, open air walking areas with trees, benches, etc. While I understand that is not the plan for the Greenway project

Dear Mayor Gordo and City Councilmembers.
We strongly support the City's Greenway project, particularly enhancements that would make it safer for pedestrians, bicyclists, and motorists along Sierra Bonita Avenue. We have witnessed multiple accidents, from a pedestrian and a dog being hit by a car, a vehicular collision, to a vehicular crash into a family's home. We have also witnessed a few close calls between motorists and folks riding bikes. Personally, we have suffered property damage from vehicles driving too fast on Sierra Bonita Avenue.
Many pedestrians and bicyclists use Sierra Bonita Avenue daily. It connects neighborhoods to Jefferson Park, the Library, preschool and after-school programs, the Metro A Line, and Pasadena City College.
We want to live on a safe street. We would like people to drive slowly past Sierra Bonita Avenue. Building safe greenways will slow down drivers not only on Sierra Bonita Avenue but surrounding residential streets.
General greenway benefits:
• Greenways make streets safer while allowing access for cars and emergency vehicles. Simple traffic calming, like speed bumps with emeroency vehicle cut-throughs, reduce speeding while providing access for everyone.
• The Greenways will provide safe routes to schools, and give students transportation options. That's why the PUSD school system, as well as PCC, Caltech, Polytechnic, and the Seqoyah school all support All Ages and Abilities Greenways. Kids thrive when they get the independence, fun, and exercise of getting themselves to school. • The Greenways can't cause traffic problems in the city, because they carry a tiny amount of traffic -just a few percent of north/south travel. Besides the greenways, Pasadena has 12 high-volume north/south streets that carry over 200,000 cars per day across the 210 freeway. Building the greenways will not change any of these 12 high volume streets, and so traffic will still flow freely. For Sierra Bonita Avenue, it already has a "safety" traffic problem. Priority should be on safety, not on the extra few minutes spent getting from place to place. •
108/25/2025
ITEM 6
• We are not fooled by misinformation from anti-safety advocates. City staff always plan for emergency vehicle access in any project. The greenways will allow residents to drive on them, so people can easily reach their homes. And, It is non-sense to think that slowing traffic on a few neighborhood streets will somehow cause traffic problems.
Thank you,
Anita & Bobby Mendez

Dear City Council Members,
I am writing in strong support of the Pasadena Greenways project, especially for the proposed Greenways on Wilson Ave and Craig Ave.
I am a Pasadena resident. I ride my bike daily to work, to shop for groceries, and to visit friends across the city. I am very grateful for the CordovaStand Union St bike lanes. I bike on Cordova St daily for my commute, and I bike on Union St usually 1-2 times a week when I go shopping at Target or to head to Old Town Pasadena. I bike on these streets because they have decent bike infrastructure.
That said, Cordova St and Union St are not enough. Pasadena lacks any safe bike infrastructure (either protected, or at least buffered, bike lanes) in the North/South direction.
I urge the City Council to prioritize bike lanes on Wilson Ave. and Craig Ave. I bike on Wilson Ave. daily for my commute, and Wilson Ave. is pivotal for the large number of students who attend Caltech and Polytechnic. Cars regularly speed above the posted speed limit, and the existing meager bike lanes between California and Del Mar put cyclists directly in the door-zone of parked cars. I have experienced multiple near misses on Wilson Ave. due to both reckless drivers crossing into the bike Lane and inattentive passengers opening car doors into the bike lane.
Craig Ave also plays an outsized role for North/South connectivity. I bike on Craig Ave. several times each month to visit friends and as part of my route to activities Victory Park. As one of the lowest-volume streets that crosses the 21 0 Freeway, Craig is a natural choice for increasing safety for pedestrians and cyclists. I have never seen traffic jams on Craig Ave, but many speeding drivers have whizzed by me at high speeds (in excess of 40mph) on Craig Ave. The proposed traffic calming measures will not induce any traffic jams nor slow down emergency vehicles, but will instead encourage drivers to respect the speed limit.
Thank you for your service to the city. I look forward to the next phase of the Greenways project.
Sincerely,
Christopher Yeh

Dear Mayor and Council,
As a resident of District 2 and supporter of safer streets, I am writing to share my support for the City's efforts to develop a network of neighborhood 'greenways' in Pasadena.
I often walk and bike on Wilson when I am visiting businesses and friends in Pasadena or commuting to work. Crossing the 210 on Wilson is my least favorite part of that trip because of the speed of the cars on the road and the Lack of plants and trees. I sometimes drive instead of using active transportation to travel on Wilson because of that.

Dear mayor Gordo and city council,
As a district 1 homeownerwho commutes to Colorado and Wilson forwork by bicycle every week, I support All Ages and Abilities greenways in our city.
I appreciate the protected bike lane on Union to help connect parts of east and west Pasadena.
However, north and south options are not so great. Many of the options, Like Marengo or Lake, are designed with wide freeway ramps, which attracts high driver volumes, and aggressive driving.
Implementing accessible greenways on the Lowest volume streets, such as El Molino, Wilson, Sierra Bonita, and Craig, would create safer options for residents using bikes, scooters, or walking. These options still allow emergency vehicles to use them easily, and with slower drivers, it will make it safer for first responders to use these as well.
I urge you so support the greenways in Pasadena!
Thanks for your time,
Bin Lee

They're great choices for Greenways: most of them already have less traffic, there are a lot of residential stretches, and they all cross the 21 0 freeway.
One more hard-to-count cost: the time spent by parents dropping off their kids by car that will be reclaimed if some of those kids can bike to school. No wonder PUSD is in favor of All Ages and Abilities Greenways.
Thanks in advance for doing the right thing and moving this project forward. 108/25/2025

Dear Mayor and Council,
As a local constituent and supporter of safer streets, I am writing to share my support for the City's efforts to develop a network of neighborhood 'greenways' in Pasadena.
Walking and bicycling are healthy, affordable, and sustainable ways to get around town. However these modes of transportation are only viable forthe majority if they are also safe and accessible. The Greenways project would be a major step towards making that a reality, and as such has been embraced by a broad cross section of the community.
Over 1,000 people have signed petitions in support of All Ages & Abilities Greenways for Pasadena, and over a dozen local organizations have endorsed the project, includingthe League of Women Voters Pasadena Area, Caltech, Pasadena City College, the NAACP, the Pasadena Unified School District board, and the Pasadena Accessibility and Disability, Environmental Advisory, and Transportation Advisory Commissions.
Please support a safer, greener, more accessible Pasadena! Sincerely,

Dear Mayor Gordo and Council Members,
I am requesting your support for the Safe Greenways proposal. I am a resident of Sierra Madre, but my family and I frequently travel in Pasadena for shopping, volunteer work, cultural events, and medical appointments. My primary mode of transportation is my e-bike, and I appreciate the road safety improvements Pasadena has been making lately, and the Safe Greenway proposal is an important step in making the city safer to get around on a bike. I frequently use Craig, Sierra Bonita, and Wilson as north- south routes, and they are often less safe than they could be because of the fast traffic speeds.
The Safe Greenways proposal would address this speed problem on these residential neighborhood routes, and make it safer for everyone-drivers included! Please support the Safe Greenways proposal.

Dear city council,
I am a graduate student at Caltech and have been a resident of Pasadena district 7 for 6 years.
I am writing to express my unqualified support for the Greenways project, and I want to see them built following the All Ages and Abilities guidelines.
Firstly, as a current resident of Pasadena, I think everyone would benefit from improved cycling and pedestrian infrastructure. The Greenways project is a great start for this infrastructure and opens numerous pathways for people to safely get around by hiking orwalkingwithout any significant interruptions to traffic and/or emergency services. Our current infrastructure is not designed for humans, it's designed for cars. This has to change. We all deserve to live on quiet and safe streets. And, let me add, if somehow the Greenways cause a huge traffic disaster, you can change it back. But, I think the data and happiness will speak for itself after a few years. We need to think creatively and be bold to improve our city, not just accept the status quo.
Secondly, as a young person who wants to have a family, I would love to live in a place where my kids can safely exist without the need for constant parental supervision. At this point in time, Pasadena is not that place. But, Pasadena can change for the better. Neighborhoods should be transformed into neighborhoods and highways and thoroughfares can stay as they are. While I am not a parent at the moment, I see our modern society writ Large as being a very hostile environment for children. There is not much you can do about social media or the internet, but there is somethingyou can do about our roads.
Let's fix them. Let's put children above cars.
Thankyouforyour consideration.
Best regards,
Scott Habermehl

Dear City Council,
I am a resident of South Pasadena and I work in Pasadena. I commute to work by bicycle every day, mostly along El Molino.
I want to see All Ages and Abilities greenways built to create safe neighborhood streets.
Greenways make streets safer for everyone, including bicycle commuters like myself, while allowing access for cars and emergency vehicles.
Simple traffic calming, like speed bumps with emergency vehicle cut-throughs, reduce speeding while providing access for everyone.
The Greenways will provide safe routes to schools, and give students transportation options. That's why the PUSD school system, as well as PCC, Caltech, Polytechnic, and the Sequoyah school all support ALL Ages and Abilities Greenways. Kids thrive when they get the independence, fun, and exercise of getting themselves to school.
Besides the greenways, Pasadena has 12 high-volume north/south streets that carry over 200,000 cars per day across the 21 0 freeway. Building the greenways will not change any of these 12 high volume streets and so traffic will still flow freely.
I support All Ages & Abilities Greenways in Pasadena. I am hoping that the Pasadena City Council will award a contract for the Greenways on Monday.
Best regards,
AtanWeinstein

Honorable Mayor and Council Members,
I work and visit Pasadena daily and am writing to express my strong support for the All Ages & Abilities Greenways project in Pasadena.
I commute daily to Caltech by bike and the greenways would help connect me to work and to city businesses on safe routes. Based on surveys, I know that I am one of the 10% of riders that feel comfortable enough to ride my routes today. By building All Ages & Abilities Greenways, you will unlock the routes to the as many as 60% of all residents and visitors.
The four streets selected for the Greenways-El Molino,Wilson, Sierra Bonita, and Craig-arethe ideal candidates for this project. These are the four lowest-volume streets that cross the 210 freeway, making them a natural choice for safe walking and hiking infrastructure. El Molino wilt connect me to my work and Wilson will connect my work to city destinations and businesses.
The Greenways will provide safe routes to schools and give students valuable transportation options.
This is why the PUSD school system, along with PCC, Caltech, Polytechnic, andtheSequoyah school, all support the project. When children can safely and independently travel to school, they gain confidence, exercise, and Life skills that serve them well beyond their school years.
The level of community backing for this project is remarkable. Over 1,000 residents have signed petitions of support and contributed more than 270 written comments. Additionally, 17 local organizations have formally endorsed the All Ages & Abilities Greenways, including respected institutions like the PUSD school board, the League of Women Voters, the NAACP, the Accessibility and Disability Commission, the Environmental Advisory Commission, and the Transportation Advisory Commission.
The Greenways will make our streets safer while maintaining full access for cars and emergency vehicles. Simple traffic calming measures, such as speed cushions with emergency vehicle cut- throughs, effectively reduce dangerous speeding while ensuring that all users can navigate these streets safely. The Greenways cannot cause traffic problems because they currently carry only a tiny percentage of north-south travel-just a few percent of the total volume.
It's important to address the misinformation circulating about this project. City staff consistently plan for emergency vehicle access in all transportation projects, and the Greenways will maintain full residential 1 08/25/2025

access for drivers reaching their homes. Claims that modest traffic calming on neighborhood streets wilt cause citywide congestion are simply not supported by evidence or traffic engineering principles.
Thankyou foryourtime and consideration.

Esteemed Officials,
I am writing to you as a resident of Pasadena. I also work in Pasadena, and use my bicycle to commute to work.
I am eager to see Greenways constructed on El Molino, Wilson, Sierra Bonita, and Craig to help protect cyclists and pedestrians. As someone who has twice been involved in collisions with automobiles on Sierra Bonita in the past three years while commuting to work (fortunately with no serious injuries), I know that had I been on a greenway, both accidents (the fault of the automobile drivers) would have been avoided.
This project has strong support from the Pasadena community. It will enable more Pasadena residents to ride their bikes safely and I believe it will save lives and prevent serious injuries from occurring. The proposed ALL Ages and Abilities Greenways will be located on north-south routes that carry a small amount of traffic relative to other Pasadena surface streets, so will not negatively impact traffic in any serious way.
I am strongly in support of the All Ages and Abilities Greenways project and hope the Pasadena City Council will vote to move forward with this important and life-saving project.
Thankyou foryour consideration.

I ride my bike a lot in Pasadena and tend to avoid the roads that are being considered because I don't feel safe. I do use the Marengo Greenway a lot and always feel safe using it. It makes perfect sense to me to take these four roads and make them into a greenways. I support this plan fully. Make Pasadena safe!

To whom it may concern,
I've resided in Pasadena since October 2021. I've a bicycle, which I've used it to commute to work frequently over the Last two and a half years. I noticed a big improvement in the quality of my commute when the bike path on Cordova was inaugurated. This allowed me to take Cordova and a short section of Wilsontogetto myjobatCaltech.
Unfortunately, my capacity to use my bike more broadly has been limited by the poor connectivity of the bike path network of our city. Crossing the 210 freeway never feels safe: bike markings disappear suddenly and motorists tend to go faster in that area.
The Greenwaysare really a perfect solution for this issue. They would greatly improve, in practice, the north-south connectivity of the bike path network, while having a minimal impact on car traffic and also benefiting enormously these mostly residential streets (in terms of noise reduction, cleaner air, and safety for children).
I hope this project gets approved soon and motivates similar changes elsewhere. Pasadena has a great opportunity to lead a positive change in the LA area.
Best,
Juan PabloVigneaux

I am a Pasadena resident, living on Catalina Ave. in Bungalow Heaven (District 2). I support All Ages and Abilities Greenways, because they will help create safe neighborhoods.
The four streets planned as Greenways - El Molino, Wilson, Sierra Bonita, and Craig - are the four lowest-volume streets that cross the 210 freeway. That makes them a natural choice for walking and biking, and essential for our city's hiking network.
The Greenways have outstanding community support!
Greenways make streets safer while allowing access for cars and emergency vehicles. Simple traffic calming, like speed bumps with emergency vehicle cut-throuohs, reduce speeding while providing access for everyone.
Thousands of people ride bikes in Pasadena already. But, most people - about 60% - say they would like to ride a bike sometimes, but need safe spaces to do so. More hiking trips frees up parking spaces for drivers, reduces traffic, and makes our city more accessible and vibrant. This has worked in other cities, and it will work here too!
That's why the PUSD school system, as well as PCC, Caltech, Polytechnic, and the Sequoyah school all support All Ages and Abilities Greenways. Kids thrive when they get the independence, fun, and exercise of getting themselves to school.
1 The Greenways can't cause traffic problems in the city, because they carry a tiny amount of traffic - just a few percent of north/south travel. Building the greenways will not change any of these 12 high volume streets and so traffic will still flow freely.
We should not be fooled by misinformation from anti-safety advocates. City staff always plan for emergency vehicle access in any project. The greenways will allow residents to drive on them, so people can easily reach their homes. And, it is nonsense to think that slowing traffic on a few neighborhood streets will somehow cause traffic problem.
Sincerely,
Kristin Roberts

Dear Mayor and Councilmembers,
I am writing in strong support of the All Ages and Abilities Greenways project, which will help create neighborhood streets where people can walk, bike, and drive safely.
As a District 2 resident and homeowner, I sold my car two years ago after the completion of the Union Street protected bike Lane and began hiking exclusively for all of my transportation needs in Pasadena.
This shift has not only transformed the way I interact with the City, but it has also deepened my awareness of the importance of safe infrastructure for cyclists and pedestrians.
My home is located directly between several of the proposed north-south streets slated for improvements, and I am eager to see this project realized. While I understand that some motorists may be concerned about potential impacts to commute times or traffic, the proposed measures—such as speed cushions with emergency vehicle cut-throughs—are proven, Low-cost tools for traffic calming and neighborhood safety.
I urge the City to allow these measures on the Greenways and to update Pasadena's speed hump policy to permit the use of speed cushions on these routes.

Dear Mayor Gordo and City Council Members,
I am a long-time Pasadena resident and I'm writing to express my strong support for All Ages and Abilities Greenways. I mostly walk and bike around town and I see there is a need for a safe network for hiking. I'm a confident bicyclist and even so I often have to ride blocks out of my way to get to my destination because the more direct routes are dangerous and scary.
It's worth noting that building the Greenways properly will not restrict personal car or emergency vehicle access. What it will do is:
Slow traffic on four neighborhood streets, making them safer and quieter (something residents already want as evidenced by the multitude of "slow down" signs all over town) Create slower streets that will be more comfortable for risk-averse potential bicyclists (about 60% of people say they would bike for some trips if they had a safe space to do so) Provide safe routes to schools, giving students an option to get to school on their own and avoid the dreaded car line
Please do not believe the misinformation that the Greenways will somehow cause traffic or make it so residents can't get to their homes. We cannot keep the status quo (Pasadena built for cars only) and expect traffic to somehow magically disappear. For congestion to be lessened, the true solution is to offer viable alternatives to driving.
Please support All Ages and Abilities Greenways!
Thank you,

Hello,
I'd Like to submit a brief comment in advance of the Pasadena City Council meeting on Monday, August 25, 2025, which I will be unable to attend due to a prior commitment.
I strongly support the All-Ages & Abilities Greenways project. The proposed routes that the project plans to add will significantly improve the ability to access safe transportation for city residents like me. Many Caltech graduate students do not own cars; some such as myself do not drive at all. Frequently, graduate students in such a position will rent apartments to the north of campus and commute southward by foot or bike. However, the current state of city streets that run north-to-south makes commuting by either of these methods — walking or hiking — a scarier proposition than it ought to be.
The anxiety provoked by hiking down busy streets, trapped in the same lanes as cars that could squish you flat at any moment with little difficulty, pushes many cyclists to bike on sidewalks instead. This is understandable, but unfortunately, it has the consequence that the burden of unsafe commuting is placed instead on the shoulders of pedestrians, who must now fear cyclists (particularly motorized e- bikes and mopeds) running them down on narrow sidewalks.
From my experience as a pedestrian in Pasadena who Lives and works in this city, adding north-to-south routes down the roads proposed by the ALl-Ages & Abilities Greenways project will help tremendously in getting people like me to and from our jobs safely with more peace of mind everyday.
Thankyouforyour consideration,
Helen Evans

Dear Members of the City Council,
I am a Pasadena resident with two children, ages 8 and 5. I'm excited for the City to design and build the All Ages and Abilities Greenways so families like mine can enjoy safe neighborhood streets. I ask you to approve the contract with TDG Engineering to begin design and engineering for the four designated Greenways.
My family bikes around Pasadena, but too often it feels risky—especially with young children. Even on quieter streets slated for Greenways, drivers speed and behave recklessly. These streets should be safe. With Greenways, they can be.
Safer streets open doors. They encourage more families to bike and more people to walk. More people hiking and walking means fewer cars on the road. Fewer cars mean less pollution, cleaner air, and healthier neighborhoods. Safety isn't just about preventing crashes, it's also about creating new ways to move, and shifting everyday trips from cars to cleaner alternatives.
That shift matters. Each car trip replaced with a bike ride or walk reduces emissions and brings Pasadena closer to its climate goals. What begins with safety for families grows into broader mobility for all—and real progress on climate action.
Pasadena has already taken bold steps: Resolution 9977 commits us to 100% carbon-free power by 2030.The Climate Action Plan calls for reducing car dependence and building stronger walking, hiking, and transit networks. The Greenways are exactly how those commitments become reality on the ground.
Safe streets encourage more walking, hiking, and active travel. That reduces car dependence, lowers emissions, and strengthens community. This is how Pasadena fulfills its promise to families, communities, and the planet.
Please approve this contract and make the All Ages and Abilities Greenways a reality for Pasadena.
Sincerely,
MarkSanborn

Dear Mayor and Council,
As a local constituent and supporter of safer streets, I am writing to share my support for the City's efforts to develop a network of neighborhood 'greenways' in Pasadena.
Walking and bicycling are healthy, affordable, and sustainable ways to get around town. However these modes of transportation are only viable for the majority if they are also safe and accessible. The Greenways project would be a major step towards making that a reality, and as such has been embraced by a broad cross section of the community.
Over 1,000 people have signed petitions in support of All Ages & Abilities Greenways for Pasadena, and over a dozen local organizations have endorsed the project, including the League of Women Voters Pasadena Area, Caltech, Pasadena City College, the NAACP, the Pasadena Unified School District board, and the Pasadena Accessibility and Disability, Environmental Advisory, and Transportation Advisory Commissions.
Please support a safer, greener, more accessible Pasadena! 1 08/25/2025

City Council,
I am a resident of Pasadena and I believe we should be working together to create safer streets. Our dangerous roads affect everyone - drivers, passengers, and people who are not in cars.
Speed is a major factor in Pasadena's poor safety record. The Greenways will be streets where cars and bikes and pedestrians will share the road (no bike lanes, except for the blocks that cross the freeway.) The Greenways are planned for the four towest-volume streets that cross the 210 freeway.
This will create a network of safer, lower-stress streets especially for pedestrians and cyclists.
NO design decisions have been made regarding any specific tool to slow traffic on any specific street.
Indeed, the entire point of hiring a design firm is to come up with proposals that make sense both for the people who live on the street AND for the people who will use the street.
We have been waiting for years for street safety improvements in Pasadena, and for the Greenways in particular. The funds have already been identified. They are not General Fund dollars and could not just be switched to use for something else.
I urge you to approve this contract.
Thank you,
Blair Miller

To The Members of City Council,
I'm writing in support of All Ages and Abilities greenways in Pasadena. I have lived in Pasadena for nearly 15 years, and I often walk and bike around the city. Building the proposed greenways will be a step in the right direction for making Pasadena a safer city for pedestrians, cyclists and drivers. I use El Molino often to walk or bike from my home to places like Vromans, the Pasadena Playhouse, and the Landmark, so it will be wonderful to feel safer and less stressed when I use that street, since car speeds will be down. I also know that as a result of lower car speeds I will feel more comfortable using EL Molino as a way to connect with other streets like Cordova and Union.
The Safe Greenways proposal would make these routes safer for everyone, including drivers! Please vote yes!

Hi,
I live at the corner ofWhitefield rd and Sierra Bonita and the speed that cards go down Sierra Bonita is terrifying. I see neighborhood kids bicycling and worry for them.
I won't let my child on her bike or scooter in the neighborhood mom also scared when she's on the sidewalk on Sierra Bonita because one of the sporting cars could easily go up the curb.
So just to be clear, I support the all ages and abilities safe greenways.
Thank you,
Caroline Handel

Hello!
My name is Andrew Mitchell and my family and I are residents of this great city. My wife, Erin, and I have two kids, Jojo and Madison (ages 4 and 6) and live and work in Pasadena. Our family lives in a townhome just south of the playhouse district. Due to this we do not have access to safe roads or a bike friendly neighborhood for our kids. Instead we often ride in the area with constant fear and anxiety until we are able to find a side street to ride on. The proposed alt ages and abilities greenways would allow our family to safely access the incredible shopping, entertainment and leisure that Pasadena provides without using our car or risking disasterwhile hiking on the non greenway streets. These greenways would allow our kids to be more confident while riding bikes and not fearful of what could happen on a bad day on these streets. We hope you will approve this contract and make hiking and non automotive travel safer for the citizens of Pasadena. Thank you for your time and consideration of this contract.
All the best, The Mitchell Family

City Council Item 6:1 want to see All Ages and Abilities greenways built to create safe neighborhood streets.

My name is Deborah Spector and I have been a resident of Pasadena for the past seven years.
I am writing in support of the city approving the contract that is before the City Council to move forward with the design of the four designated Greenways so people can walk, bike, and drive safely.
I myself walk, bike, and drive in Pasadena. My preference is to walk and bike as my primary modes of transportation. I travel throughout the city for shopping, entertrainment, and to visit my friends. I am grateful for the Union Street bike path and Cordova bike lane which have made my east-west travel safer and less stressful. My experience cycling north-south in Pasadena alongside vehicles in Pasadena is not nearly as reassuring and I am always relieved when I get to a street which has slower traffic.
There are members of the community like myself who choose alternatives to driving when possible to reduce traffic on the roads, to benefit our health, and to enjoy the beauty and vibrancy that is Pasadena. Not all members of our community are able to drive or be driven to their destinations.
Many members of our community rely instead on cycling or walking to get around town. Many parents would like to be assured that their child could safely walk or bike to school and not have to spend time in the school drop off and pick up lines. Every member of our community, regardless of age or ability, should have the opportunity to travel to their destinations safely and calmly, using the mode of transportation that works the best for them.
The four streets proposed as Greenways, El Molino, Craig, Sierra Bonita and Wilson, are largely residential, have less traffic than other north-south routes, connect to a number ofA-line Metro stops, the Cordova Bike lanes and Union Street bike path, and all cross the 210 freeway. These streets are great choices to be built as All Ages and Abilities greenways so we all can have neighborhood streets where people can walk, bike, and drive safely.
Sincerely,
Deborah Spector
