Dear Members of the Public Safety Committee,
Regarding fireworks in 2025. While the city may have stats on reports and citations, the amount of fireworks this year increased over previous years.
I have talked to many residents and they don't bother to report because nothing is done.
Where is the drone program that other cities have that works? Many cities much smaller than Pasadena have drones and use them for effectively capturing criminal activity.
Why is Shotspotter/Sound Thinking which the city pays for not being applied for the use of fireworks.
Of the ten citations issued, please break those down. how many are repeat offenders. Where did these citations occur? I saw less signage. How many signs had the city posted? Was there a trailer with the messaging parked in areas that have shown repeat use?
How about a reward program? Create an incentive for people to report the illegal use, because otherwise people really do believe that nothing is being done.
Pasadena needs to enforce the use of any fireworks in the city, this needs to include the use of pyro fireworks at the Rose Bowl. No fireworks means no fireworks.
The community needs action, not just post recaps.
Pasadena can do better when it comes to enforcing use of ANY fireworks.
Start today and let's be ready for when the fireworks start going off.
Regards,
Victor Caballero
