Good morning, Mayor Gordo and City Councilmembers,
As we approach Revolution Day, I am reminded of the rich diversity in this region. Mere ceremonies do not offer the best Linkage to our heritage, and the Pasadena Sister Cities Committee has been faithful and diligent to the work to make an authentic connection by establishing a Mexico Sister City..
When I joined, the decisions seemed to be reserved for a small inner circle, Since President Lena Louis Kennedy has led PSCC, more voices have been invited into the dialogue, more people have joined and PSCC has grown in membership.
I share a respected relationship with her through our community and church work. I also knew her brother, the late Councilmember John J. Kennedy, and I recognize the dedication he gave toward securing an African Sister City. I deeply, including my work with the Pasadena library to capture the contribution of Black Paadeneans to this beautiful community..
I respectfully ask that you work with the current leadership under President Lena Louise Kennedy, rather than against the Pasadena Sister Cities Committee leadership. I trust the mutual goals of the City Council and PSCC can best be achieved in partnership and communication. Any conflicts rooted in untruths cannot produce positive outcomes. Let ourjourneytoward this goal be a collective community effort, grounded in unity and integrity.
I am available to discuss any concerns or amplify upon this note. Thank you for your thoughtful consideration.
Respectfully,
Jacquelyn Dupont-Walker, D Hum., MSW, LCSW
Member, Pasadena Sister Cities Committee

Good morning, Mayor Gordo and City Councilmembers,
As a board member of the Pasadena Sister Cities Committee, I am deeply concerned about the ongoing attacks on dedicated leaders such as Secretary Elizabeth Ellis and our President, Lena Louise Kennedy.
These unnecessary and divisive actions must stop. Pasadena Sister Cities is about peace and coming together in a friendly manner.
The Pasadena Sister Cities Committee is diligently working to establish a Mexico Sister City. What should be a cause for celebration has instead been clouded by baseless attacks. This is troubling and undermines the progress our committee has made under President Kennedy's leadership.
President Kennedy has worked tirelessly to restore and strengthen this organization, ensuring transparency, equity, and vision guide every step. The current attacks only serve to overshadow decades of dedication, diplomacy, and community service.
Our Committee is pursuing a historic milestone—our first Mexico Sister City relationship. The plan envisions two partnerships, one in Guanajuato and one in Zacatecas, with Guanajuato being the first, as affirmed by the Committee's membership. This thoughtful, deliberate approach reflects our commitment to building meaningful and lasting international relationships.
I am proud to serve under Lena Louise Kennedy, the first Black woman to lead the Pasadena Sister Cities Committee in its 75-year history. Her unwavering dedication to equity, community engagement, and cross-cultural understanding is inspiring. Attacks on her leadership are unjust and undermine the very progress our community seeks to achieve.
Our shared goal must be unity, collaboration, and healing. Pasadena and Altadena thrive when organizations like the Pasadena Sister Cities Committee are allowed to fulfill their mission without interference. At a time when our region faces so many pressing issues—from wildfire recovery to civic engagement—we must focus on solutions, not distractions.
Sincerely,
Tina Rios
Board Member, Pasadena Sister Cities Committee

Good evening, Mayor Gordo and Honorable CityCouncilmembers:
It is with deep respect and appreciation for your service to our community that I write to express my wholehearted support for the establishment of a Mexico Sister City partnership. The Pasadena Sister Cities Committee has demonstrated exemplary dedication and integrity in advancing this important initiative.
Having had the honor of working alongside Councilmember John J. Kennedy on the Africa Sister City partnership with Dakar-PLateau, Senegal, I have witnessed firsthand the transformative impact that international collaboration can have on our city.
A Sister City relationship with Mexico would offer Pasadena's business community invaluable opportunities for growth and innovation. Such partnerships facilitate access to new markets, encourage cross-border investment, and foster meaningful professional exchanges. These connections not only strengthen our local economy but also enhance Pasadena's reputation as a center for global engagement.
Of particular significance is the potential for workforce development, especially within the technology sector. Sister City partnerships can establish mentorship programs that connect Pasadena's students and professionals with experienced leaders in technology from our partner city. Through initiatives such as virtual workshops, collaborative projects, and structured mentorship, participants gain exposure to emerging technologies, global best practices, and industry trends. These experiences equip our local workforce with essential skills in areas such as software development, digital business, and cybersecurity, thereby enhancing employability and career advancement prospects.
Moreover, such mentorship initiatives have been shown to increase job placement rates, foster entrepreneurship, and expand professional networks. By investing in these opportunities, Pasadena can ensure that its workforce remains competitive in a rapidly evolving global economy and is well-prepared for the jobs of the future.
If it pleases the Council, I will respectfully encourage consideration of working collaboratively with President Lena Louise Kennedy and the Pasadena Sister Cities Committee to help realize this important partnership. Should there be any disagreements or concerns, I trust that they may be addressed through open, thoughtful, and constructive dialogue, always with the best interests of our community in mind.
Thank you very much for your kind attention and for your continued commitment to the prosperity and advancement of Pasadena.
Respectfully,
Dr. Rosaline Dauphin

To Whom it may concern,
I am sadden with the claims regarding Lenna Kennedy, President Pasadena Sister City, against establishing a Mexico Sister City which are not true. As a supporter of Lenna
Kennedy for years, this is unfair representation.
Thank you,

After the atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima in August 1945, killing over 1 40,000 Men, woman, children, babies and unborn children, one man named Tatsuo Yamamoto, ignited a flame from the still burning ambers that, he kept and maintained this flame as a symbol of peace, remembrance and to comfort the souls of those who died in the atomic bombing, trough prayer, in the hope of nuclear abolition and permanent world peace.
After many decades the flame of peace was presented to Pope Francis at the Vatican in 2019, who after a powerful united prayer blew it out in front of hundreds of thousands of people to symbolize hope for a future free from nuclear wars and permanent world peace.
The flame is now situated in the hliroshima Peace Memorial Park and has been shared with many locations in Japan and across the world as a powerful symbolof peace by over 675,000 people who have shared it among communities that have gone through disasters, injustice and war allowing the healing process to begin through a universal interfaith prayer, transforming past suffering into peace among all humanity.
The Flame of Peace ceremony consists of the Lighting of the Flame followed by an interfaith Prayer for hope and peace adding your personal wish to the prayer followed by blowing out the flame symbolizing the transformation of past suffering into future peace powered by pure human kindness taking full responsibility for the happiness of others
.The Flame of Hope continues on its global pilgrimage. It is being carried by those who believe the world can change and when the flame and peace message is lit in the hearts of children ...there is hope for permanent world peace.
Guanajuato being a UNESCO world heritage for humanity site has been the recipient of the Flame of peace and in a powerfulsolidarityceremonythey have scheduled a hand over of the Flame of Peace Ceremony at Plaza de La Paz during our Paasadena Delegation visit on November 4th. 2025.
We have planned a handover ceremony of the Flame of Peace here in our sister community of Altadena were after igniting the Flame of Peace , an interfaith prayer will bring comfort to the souls of all those affected by the Eaton Fire disaster.
May God bring peace to all humanity on these times of uncertainty here at home and around the world.
Amen.
