City Council,
I am a resident of Pasadena and I urge you to approve this contract.
Speed is a major factor in Pasadena's poor safety record. The Greenways will be streets where cars and bikes and pedestrians will share the road (no bike lanes, except for the blocks that cross the freeway.) The Greenways are planned for the four lowest-volume streets that cross the 210 freeway.
This will create a network of safer, lower-stress streets especially for pedestrians and cyclists.
NO design decisions have been made regarding any specific tool to slow traffic on any specific street.
Indeed, the entire point of hiring a design firm is to come up with proposals that make sense both for the people who live on the street AND for the people who will use the street.
We have been waiting for years for street safety improvements in Pasadena, and for the Greenways in particular. The funds have already been identified. They are not General Fund dollars and could not just be switched to use for something else.
Thank you,
Jeff Hall
District 4 resident

Hi,
I live at the corner of Whitefield rd and Sierra Bonita and the speed that cards go down Sierra Bonita is terrifying. I see neighborhood kids bicycling and worry for them.
I won't let my child on her bike or scooter in the neighborhood mom also scared when she's on the sidewalk on Sierra Bonita because one of the sporting cars could easily go up the curb.
So just to be clear, I support the all ages and abilities safe greenways.
Thank you,

Hi there,
I'm Becky Hartung--a Pasadena resident and bike rider in District 2.1 fully support the implementation of Greenways along El Molino,Wilson, Sierra Bonita, and Craig Avenues. These Greenways will lower speeds, reduce cut-through traffic, and create safe, quiet neighborhood streets for everyone—including children, people with disabilities, and daily commuters navigating on foot or by bike.
As we discuss solutions for our growing climate crisis, one that is clear is promoting multimodal transportation to reduce our car use in our city. Allowing more neighbors to walk or bike can decrease emissions from cars. To get folks to bike and walk more, they need to feel safe hiking. The Greenways is a great project to allow some streets in our city to have safer places to ride/walk.
I urge your support for the Greenways in Pasadena.

Hello,
I'd like to submit a brief comment in advance of the Pasadena City Council meeting on Monday,August 25, 2025, which I will be unable to attend due to a prior commitment.
I strongly support the All-Ages & Abilities Greenways project. The proposed routes that the project plans to add will significantly improve the ability to access safe transportation for city residents like me. Many Caltech graduate students do not own cars; some such as myself do not drive at all. Frequently, graduate students in such a position will rent apartments to the north of campus and commute southward by foot or bike. However, the current state of city streets that run north-to-south makes commuting by either of these methods—walking or hiking—a scarier proposition than it ought to be.
The anxiety provoked by hiking down busy streets, trapped in the same lanes as cars that could squish you flat at any moment with little difficulty, pushes many cyclists to bike on sidewalks instead. This is understandable, but unfortunately, it has the consequence that the burden of unsafe commuting is placed instead on the shoulders of pedestrians, who must now fear cyclists (particularly motorized e- bikes and mopeds) runningthem down on narrow sidewalks.
From my experience as a pedestrian in Pasadena who Lives and works in this city, adding north-to-south routes down the roads proposed by the All-Ages & Abilities Greenways project will help tremendously in getting people like me to and from our jobs safely with more peace of mind everyday.
Thank you for your consideration,
Helen Evans
Graduate student in geochemistry

Hi there, I am a Pasadena resident, and my household has lived in Pasadena forthe past13years. I'm writing in support of the All Ages and Abilities greenways to be built to create safe, quiet, and mobility- friendly neighborhood streets.
I have been impressed by the progress that Pasadena has made over the past few years toward quieter, safer, and more mobitity-oriented streets; I hope to see continued progress on this front! Greenways make streets safer while allowing access for cars and emergency vehicles. Simple traffic calming, like speed bumps with emergency vehicle cut-throughs, reduce speeding while providing access for everyone.
The four streets planned as Greenways - El Molino, Wilson, Sierra Bonita, and Craig - are the four lowest-volume streets that cross the 210 freeway. That makes them a natural choice for walking and hiking, and essential for our city's biking network.
Speed cushions with emergency vehicle cut-throughs are a simple, low-cost traffic calming tool. They should be allowed on the Greenways. Please update the Pasadena speed hump policy to allow speed cushions on the Greenways.
The Greenways will provide safe routes to schools, and give students transportation options. That's why the PUSD school system, as well as PCC, Caltech, Polytechnic, and the Seqoyah school all support All Ages and Abilities Greenways. Kids thrive when they get the independence, fun, and exercise of getting themselves to school. -Teddy H

Dear Councilmembers, City Manager, and Mayor,
I am writing to you to oppose the Craig Ave Greenway project. With all the new constructions Pasadena has become over crowded and it has a lot of traffic. By making islands blocking intersections, and making road diets Pasadena's traffic will be worse than what it is now. On top of that all the signs that will be put up will be a distraction for the drivers. I know that those $12.6 million dollars can be used for something more urgent like the homeless crisis. You guys need to reconsider how you are spending our money.

Pasadena Greenway Project Support

Dear City Council Members,
I am writing in strong support of the Pasadena Greenways project, particularly the proposed Greenways on Wilson Avenue and CraigAvenue.
I am a Pasadena resident and a Caltech graduate student. I do not own a car, so my bicycle is my main way of getting around—for commuting to campus, grocery shopping, and visiting friends. Biking is not just transportation for me, it's part of how I experience the city: I stop at coffee shops along my route, take different paths to explore neighborhoods, and enjoy the greenery when I can find a safe street.
Right now, though, hiking in Pasadena often feels stressful. I use the bike lanes on Cordova and Union regularly because they are among the only places where I feel somewhat safe. But even there, I've had close calls with cars veering into the Lane or passing too closely. Those moments stay with me—I still remember a car door opening suddenly in front of me on Union, forcing me into traffic. Experiences Like that make me think twice about riding, even though hiking is my only option.
What Pasadena needs is a connected network of safe routes, especially North-South corridors like Wilson and Craig. Without them, I often find myself taking long detours or riding on unsafe roads just to reach basic destinations. Fully protected bike lanes would make a huge difference—not only for my daily rides, but for families, students, and older residents who would like to bike but currently feel it's too dangerous.
I also understand the driver's perspective. When I borrow a car, I've felt the tension of being stuck behind a cyclist or the nerves when trying to pass safely. These conflicts make driving stressful too. The real issue isn't cyclists or drivers—it's the Lack of infrastructure that forces us into conflict. With protected bike lanes across the city, both cyclists and motorists would have their own space. That means safer roads, less frustration, and ultimately less traffic as more people choose to bike instead of drive.
For me, the Greenways project isn't abstract policy—it's about whether I can get to work safely, whether I can visit a friend without fear, and whether Pasadena can be a city that supports all its residents, not just those with cars.
Thankyouforyour service and for considering the long-term vision of Pasadena. I hope you will prioritize the Wilson and Craig Avenue Greenways and commit to building fully protected bike lanes.
Sincerely,
Jeffrey1

To the city,
Yesterday my neighbor across the street and myself had our usual greeting, I yell and she yells back in excitement. We say "it's not my birthday not today!!!" without fail, and sometimes, as a THREE year old, she starts running across the street. We yell "stop!" and usually she responds by stopping. Usually. A car forced to go even 5mph slower makes a difference.

DO NOT AGREE!!!!!!!!!!!
Dear city of Pasadena
I must respectfully express my strong opposition to this proposal. In Glendale, we went through a similar bike lane initiative and had to work tirelessly to reverse it because it proved to be a highly impractical idea.
The reality is that these projects are a significant misuse of public funds, especially when there is minimal actual bike traffic to justify them. Additionally, the resulting congestion and disruption to our city's traffic flow would be excessive and unnecessary.
Our community already has an ideal and safe location for cycling - the Rose Bowl -which is well- known and widely used by bikers. There is no need to create bike lanes on busy streets that will negatively impact residents, commuters, and businesses.
I urge the City to reconsider this plan and allocate resources toward initiatives that will benefit a greater portion of our community.
Thank you

Re: Support for Consultant Contract for Greenways Design Consent Calendar, Item 6, August 25, 2025 Council meeting To the Members of the City Council:
We are writing to state our strong support for the Council to approve the proposed contract with TDG Engineering to proceed with design and engineering services for street improvements to the four streets which have been designated as Greenways.
The Pasadena Complete Streets Coalition (PasCSC) is an all-volunteer organization whose members have been advocating for more than ten years for safer streets for everyone who lives, works, or plays in Pasadena, and in particular for people walking, hiking, and using transit.
Moving forward with All Ages and Abilities design for the four Greenways has our strong endorsement. Slowing traffic on neighborhood streets, and adding key links to Pasadena's network of routes for biking and walking, will make the city safer, healthier, and more affordable.
Members of PasCSC are far from the only supporters of safer streets and well-designed Greenways. More than 1,000 people have signed petitions of support. Since the projects were first proposed, you have received more than 100 written comments in favor. Additionally, 17 local organizations have endorsed All Ages & Abilities Greenways, including the PUSD School Board, the PCC Board of Trustees, Caltech, Polytechnic School, the League of Women Voters, the Pasadena NAACP, and the city's Accessibility and Disability Commission, Environmental Advisory Commission, and Transportation Advisory Commission. The four streets planned as Greenways-EI Molino, Wilson, Sierra Bonita, and Craig-are the four lowest-volume streets that cross the 210 Freeway. That makes them a natural choice for walking and hiking, and essential for our city's hiking network.
Greenways make streets safer while allowing access for cars and emergency vehicles. Simple traffic calming features, like speed humps with emergency vehicle cut-throuahs, can reduce speeding while providing access for everyone.
Thousands of people ride their bikes in Pasadena already. But in surveys, most people-about 60%-say they would like to ride a bike sometimes, but they don't, because there aren't enough safe places to do so. When there are safer streets on which more people can use a bicycle for local trips, it frees up parking spaces for drivers, reduces traffic, and makes our city more accessible, equitable, and vibrant. This has worked in other cities, and it will work here too!
Everyone wants to live on a safe, quiet street. Residents always want people to drive more slowly in front of their homes. Building safe Greenways will slow down drivers on those four neighborhood streets, which we anticipate will be very popular with their many residents. We have met quite a few local residents who already agree.
The Greenways will provide safe routes to multiple PUSD and other schools, which will give students transportation options. That's why the PUSD School Board, as well as PCC's Board of Trustees, Caltech leadership, Polytechnic School, and the Sequoyah School all have publicly stated their support for All Ages and Abilities Greenways. Kids thrive when they can get a bit of exercise and enjoy the independence and fun of getting themselves to school.
Slower traffic on the Greenways won't cause traffic problems in the city. The four streets currently carry only a small amount of traffic: just a few percent of total north/south trips by car.
Traffic data are available documented here:
httDS://www.Dasadenacsc.ora/s/Greenwavs-Traffic-Studv-Results-7-19.Ddf Besides the Greenways, Pasadena has twelve high-volume north/south streets that carry more than 200,000 cars per day across the 210 Freeway. Building All Ages and Abilities Greenways will not change any of these twelve high-volume streets.
We are not fooled by misinformation from anti-safety advocates and we hope you are not, either. Opponents have raised concerns regarding emergency access. The truth is that City staff always plan for emergency vehicle access in any project and consult with emergency services providers. We're also aware that no separate bike lanes are likely to be proposed for the Greenways (except in some specific stretches, like over/under www.PasadenaCSC.orgRD @PasadenaCSC
freeway bridges), so impacts on parking will be minimal. We hope that you are clear about what is true and what is not true regarding the Greenways.
We encourage the City Council to approve this contract and make the choice that leads to a safer, healthier city.
Sincerely,
b<l^1

Hello,
I am a resident of Sierra Bonita Avenue just south of Washington Street. I have lived in Pasadena for 3 years. Before I moved to Pasadena, I was a daily bike commuter in Chicago, Boston, and Minneapolis. I had thought that I would enjoy hiking in better weather in Pasadena, but the cycling infrastructure in the form of safe streets is so far behind these other metro areas, that even as a committed cyclist, I have greatly reduced my cycling to only certain destinations with reliable routes, on early weekend mornings when traffic is low. It doesn't have to be this way! We just need to commit to building the infrastructure and culture of safer streets.
Pasadena has an opportunity to create major greenways on these north-south passages of El Molino, Wilson, Craig, and my street. Sierra Bonita. These routes will greatly increase the safety of our neighborhood streets for cyclists and others of all ages and abilities. There are so many young families in our neighborhood, and all of us have heard too many speeding cars racing through our streets. As a young parent, I am very hopeful that we will feel safe enough to teach our children to bike and walk along their own safe street. We notice how much speed cushions control traffic and make everyone safer. Please support these safe greenways to revive this seasoned cyclist to get out more on more trips, and to protect and encourage the next generation of green commuters.
Thank you.

Good evening,
My name is Stephanie Kindem and I am a Pasadena resident. My family lives on Sierra Bonita between Washington Avenue and Orange Grove. We have a beautiful three year old daughter and an energetic golden retriever. We spend hours every day outside walking the neighborhood, visiting neighbors up and down the block and playing in the front yard. We want to see All Ages and Abilities greenways built across the city, but most importantly on our street! Sierra Bonita currently has a handful of speed bumps, but when nonresidents cut through, the speeds at which they drive can be very concerning. We want the traffic in front of our house to slow down. We would love to see additional traffic calming strategies like speed bumps with emergency vehicle cut- throughs or additional stop signs to reduce speeding on our street. We want our daughter to have a childhood of walking to friends' houses, hiking to school, skateboarding to dance class, and greenways will make our streets safer for everyone while still allowing plenty of access for cars and emergency vehicles.
We strongly urge you to approve the contract for these greenway designs. Thank you very much for your consideration.
Sincerely,
Stephanie Kindem

Dear city council,
I'm the owner of Surplus EV, an all-electric car dealer located a few hundred feet from one of the proposed Greenways on CraigAve.
I love cars, but my real passion is hiking and I frequently commute by bike to the business. A Greenway on Craigwould make my commute feel so much safer and Ithinkwould greatly help improve the feel of the local community.
Right now there are lots of speeders on Craig and especially on Colorado Blvd (I've seen some wild, near accidents due to speeding). Anything the city can do to slow traffic down and encourage drivers to abide by traffic laws on Craig and Colorado will help businesses in the immediate area that need to bring in Local customers. If our community feels walkable and safe people will be more likely to shop Locally.
Outside of Greenways it would be great to see the city council explore an expansion of the street side parking shoppers currently enjoy in the Playhouse District. This not only improves the walkable feeling of the area but also makes it feel much safer to park on the street and get in and out of your car. I frankly don't feel like we need 2 Lanes going both directions on Colorado in most areas.
Thankyou!

Dear Honorable Members of Pasadena City Council,
As residents of Highland Parkin Los Angeles, my family (2/3 of whom were born in Pasadena at Huntington Hospital) and I do much of our shopping and dining in Pasadena. When we are able to, we ride our bikes to do so. My toddler loves her bike seat and cries when she has to go in her car seat instead. We love whizzing past the long lines of traffic to events at the Rose Bowl or taking the beautiful protected bike Lanes on Union to the Playhouse Village park and to shop at Vroman's. We also attend Quaker meeting at Orange Grove Monthly Meeting at Orange Grove and Oakland, and we sometimes ride to Quaker meeting on the one bike lane across the 210 on Marengo, although we haven't done it since ourtoddlerwasborn because it doesn't feel very safe.
Unfortunately, once you cross from LA into Pasadena, it just doesn't feel as safe to ride a bike because there aren't many bike lanes. We would definitely come to Pasadena even more and spend even more money if we could get around more easily by bike. Two big obstacles are a lack of north-south connections to the bikewayon Union and a lackof connections across the 210. The safe greenways plan provides a solution to both of these issues. Our family would love to be able to use El Molino to connect between places like OGMM and our favorite park. I encourage the city to adopt designs that slow traffic and protect cyclists of all ages such as removing excess lanes, installing traffic diverters and speed humps, and adding curb extensions and/or neighborhood traffic circles. I hope the city will move this greenway plan forward.
Thankyou,

Dear Pasadena City Council,
I am a Pasadena resident, a small business owner, a biker, and a mom. We have three kids who have grown up in Pasadena and ALtadena. I am writing to express my support for Complete Steets and livable, walkable cities. I want my family to have a connection to our neighborhood and community. I want them to be able to explore safely and with joy. I want the ability to commute safely to restaurants, outings and work.
j
I want to see all ages and abilities greenways built throughout Pasadena. I want Pasadena to be flagship city in creating livable, healthy communities, safe neighborhood streets, and abundant parks and greenways.
We know Greenways make streets safer, that traffic calming measures work, and everyone wins.
Creating walkable, bikable cities stimulates community engagement and the economy. The safer it is to bike and walk, the more people bike and walk - and the healthier and happier our neighborhoods become.
Creating safe bike and walking paths and greenways is one of the MOST cost-effective ways a city can increase property values, lower temperatures, make healthy residents and raise up all communities.
We have the solutions, we just need the will and investment.
The four streets - El Molino, Wilson, Sierra Bonita, and Craig, are the four lowest-volume streets that cross the 210 freeway. That makes them a natural choice for walking and hiking, and essential for our city's hiking network. A bike pathway is only as good as its ability to get you somewhere safely.
Please support All Ages & Abilities Greenways!

Susan

Dear Pasadena city council,
I'm writing in support of the proposed changes to Craig Avenue. I live on Craig Avenue and commute everyday by bicycle, and regularly witness drivers driving recklessly in our neighborhood, endangering pedestrians, cyclists, other drivers, and themselves.
In particular, at the 4-way stop sign at the intersection of Walnut and Craig, I regularly see drivers absolutely blast through the stop sign with no regard for cross traffic. I've personally witnessed two cases of a reckless driver hitting a cyclist in our neighborhood. Thankfully, the collisions were at low speed, but it was a lucky thing the drivers did not kill someone.
Drivers regularly speed down Craig Avenue, at speeds exceeding 40 mph on a neighborhood street.
I see many families walking down Craig to Hamilton Elementary School - the proposed changes would go a long way to making their daily walk to school safer.
I personally look forward to the proposed changes.
Thank you for your service to the city.

Dear mayor Gordo and city council,
As a district 1 homeownerwho commutes to Colorado and Wilson forwork by bicycle every week, I support All Ages and Abilities greenways in our city.
I appreciate the protected bike lane on Union to help connect parts of east and west Pasadena.
However, north and south options are not so great. Many of the options, like Marengo or Lake, are designed with wide freeway ramps, which attracts high driver volumes, and aggressive driving.
Implementing accessible greenways on the lowest volume streets, such as El Molino, Witson, Sierra Bonita, and Craig, would create safer options for residents using bikes, scooters, or walking. These options still allow emergency vehicles to use them easily, and with slower drivers, it will make it safer for first responders to use these as welt.
I urge you so support the greenways in Pasadena!
Thanks foryourtime,
Bin Lee

Dear Councilmembers,
My name is Melissa Lee and I am a native Pasadena resident. I am writing to express my strong support for the All Ages & Abilities Greenways and to encourage you to advance this important project.
The proposed Greenways—El Molino, Witson, Sierra Bonita, and Craig—are the four lowest-volume streets that cross the 21 0 freeway. They are a natural choice for safe walking and hiking connections and are essential to completing Pasadena's hiking network.
This initiative already has outstanding community support: more than 1 ,000 residents have signed petitions, over 270 comments have been submitted, and 17 local organizations have endorsed the Greenways, including the PUSD school board, the NAACP, the League of Women Voters, the Accessibility and Disability Commission, and both the Environmental and Transportation Advisory Commissions.
Greenways will make our neighborhood streets safer for everyone while still allowing access for cars and emergency vehicles. Simple, Low-cost measures such as speed cushions with emergency vehicle cut- throughscan reduce speeding and improve safety while maintaining access for all. I urge you to update Pasadena's speed hump policy to allow these proven traffic-calming tools on the Greenways.
Thousandsof people already bike in Pasadena, and many more—about 60%—say they would if safe spaces were available. More hiking means fewer cars competing for parking, reduced traffic, and a more vibrant, accessible city. The Greenways will also provide safe routes to schools, giving students independence, exercise, and sustainable transportation options. That is why PUSD, PCC, Caltech, Polytechnic, and Sequoyah all support this project.
Importantly, the Greenways will not cause traffic issues. They carry only a small fraction of north-south trips, while Pasadena's 12 high-votume streets across the 21 0 freeway will remain unchanged and continue to carry over 200,000 cars daily. Claims to the contrary are misinformation. City staff already account for emergency vehicle access in every project, and residents will still be able to reach their homes.
Everyone deserves safe, quiet neighborhood streets. Building these Greenways wilt deliver exactly that— slower traffic, safer walking and hiking, and stronger, healthier communities. I strongly urge you to support the Ati Ages & Abilities Greenways and update the speed hump policy so this vision can be realized.

Dear Councilmembers,
As a lifelong resident of Pasadena, I am writing to express support for All Ages & Abilities Greenways.
People walking and hiking in Pasadena deserve safe, comfortable spaces. We already have 50 north/south streets built to move cars. What we desperately need are a few streets that prioritize people.
Drivers can still use these streets too, but can easily keep speeds under 20 MPH on just four streets and can take other streets as needed. Most residents want to Live on safe, quiet streets.
Avoiding high traffic streets was a major factor when buying our home, yet we were reminded of the dangers of busy streets each time we passed the house with the smashed pillar at Parkwood and Del Mar (https://www.pasadenanow.com/main/no-injuries-but-close-call-as-car-strikes-house-early-saturday) and the memorialforYangYangLiu,whowas struckand killed at Alien and San Pasqual( https://www.pasadenanow.com/main/police-arrest-driver-of-car-that-struck-killed-pedestrian-in- crosswalk)
In addition, we need to consider our vision for the city as a whole. Pasadena needs a network of streets that are comfortable for people who don't drive cars, including people who are too young, too old, or too poor to drive. Achieving net zero emissions to keep Pasadena livable for its next hundred years demands that we support affordable, low-carbon transportation.
I am pleased to see that Craig is one of the planned Greenways. I ride my bike to the Victory Park Farmers Market on Saturdays, primarily along Craig and Paloma, and Look forward to seeing the improvements to this route. (I already see a new traffic light being constructed at Orange Grove, which is much appreciated.)
The National Association of City Transportation Officials recommends that ALL bicycle facilities follow the All Ages and Abilities guidelines. Ignoring this national best practice would be a disservice to our community.
Please take this step to keep Pasadena moving toward a more livable, more vibrant, more verdant, and more equitable future. Thank you for your work for our city.
Sincerely,
Shaun Lee

Hello,
I am writing to voice my support for the All Ages and Abilities Greenway plan. I have been a resident of District 3 for two years and have wished for more bike lanes. Adding more bike lanes, particularly running north to south would increase my ability to access around Pasadena, especially to meet up with friends and patronize local businesses. As someone who works from home, there have been countless times that I decide not to go to a local coffee shop or restaurant because it would take longer to get in my car and park than it would to ride to a local coffee shop or cafe. To be clear, these are dollars that I have chosen not to spend at all, or I spend outside of Pasadena in order to make the effort of getting in the car and driving "worth it." Another aspect of life that would be improved for me personally is the air quality. As someone with asthma that lives a fairly active lifestyle, I've realized since moving here in 2023 that I have more "bad" days, which has only gotten worse since the Eaton fire and has led me to consider whether I need to move. Adding bike lanes would drastically improve the quality of life for residents and I urge you all to vote YES on the All Ages and Abilities Greenway.
Thank you,

Dear Mayor Gordo and Council Members,
I am requesting your support for the Safe Greenways proposal. I am a resident of Sierra Madre, but my family and I frequently travel in Pasadena for shopping, volunteer work, cultural events, and medical appointments. My primary mode of transportation is my e-bike, and I appreciate the road safety improvements Pasadena has been making lately, and the Safe Greenway proposal is an important step in making the city safer to get around on a bike. I frequently use Craig, Sierra Bonita, and Wilson as north- south routes, and they are often less safe than they could be because of the fast traffic speeds.
The Safe Greenways proposal would address this speed problem on these residential neighborhood routes, and make it safer for everyone-d rivers included! Please support the Safe Greenways proposal.

Dear Mayor and Council,
As a local constituent and supporter of safer streets, I am writing to share my support for the City's efforts to develop a network of neighborhood 'greenways' in Pasadena.
Walking and bicycling are healthy, affordable, and sustainable ways to get around town. However these modes of transportation are only viable for the majority if they are also safe and accessible. The Greenways project would be a major step towards making that a reality, and as such has been embraced by a broad cross section of the community.
Over 1,000 people have signed petitions in support of All Ages & Abilities Greenways for Pasadena, and over a dozen local organizations have endorsed the project, including the League of Women Voters Pasadena Area, Caltech, Pasadena City College, the NAACP, the Pasadena Unified School District board, and the Pasadena Accessibility and Disability, Environmental Advisory, and Transportation Advisory Commissions.

I DO NOT AGREE!!!!!!!!!!!
Our community already has an ideal and safe location for cycling - the Rose Bowl -which is well-known and widely used by bikers. There is no need to create bike lanes on busy streets that will negatively impact residents, commuters, and businesses.
I urge the City to reconsider this plan and allocate resources toward initiatives that will benefit a greater portion of our community.
Thank you

I am writing to express my support for the proposed Craig Avenue Greenway project, which I learned about from a flyer distributed by an opposition group, KPM. Despite their objections, I believe the project will help make Pasadena more bicycle-friendly while also reducing traffic and air pollution. I often travel on Craig by car and by bicycle and would love to see it modified. I also frequently drive and ride on the Union St. bicycle corridor and hope to see more Pasadena streets like that. Hello,
I am a resident of Sierra Bonita Avenue just south of Washington Street.
Thank you.

Dear Mamager Marquez
I must voice my opposition to turn Craig Avenue into a "Bicycle Greenway". After seeing the money completely wasted on the empty Union Street bike lanes and the roundabout on Avenue 64 that looks out of place and does not help the flow of traffic, it is folly to invest more of the funds that the City could put to better use such as road maintenance, library seismic upgrade costs or parks among other vital needs.
What groundswell of residents want this? I can't think of anyone in the area who wants any street less drivable.
Whose idea is this? Just for the record, having traffic navigating reduced road capacity so that cars burn more gas because of unnecessary delays IS NOT GREEN! If anything, it contributes to climate change. Perhaps there are those who fantasize making Pasadena another Amsterdam where everyone rides bicycles. The only problem is that Amsterdam is only 3.5 miles across and Pasadena is 15 miles across - it's just not going to happen - not now, not ever, so give up the fantasy.
In summation, due to the impracticality, increased traffic congestion, empty bike lanes and being an abject waste of money sorely needed for other worthwhile projects, I urge you to vote against this boondoggle that nobody wants or any others that might be proposed in the future.

Hello City Council,
Hope you are all well. I just received word that the Greenways action item for tonight's meeting (8/25) has been postponed. While I look forward to attending the meeting whenever it gets rescheduled to support it in person, I wanted to take the opportunity to at least email my support in favor of the All Ages and Abilities Greenways.
As a member of the newly-formed Brenner Park Neighborhood Association, my neighbors and I want to see safe neighborhood streets, and I believe Greenways will help with this. I love Pasadena, and one of the aspects I enjoy most about our amazing city is how close of a community we are. One of the pieces of connective tissue that makes our community stronger is being out and about together, as friends and neighbors. Sometimes that's walking, sometimes it's biking. And as such, we need to allow more people the ability to do both safely.
I hope that you will vote in support of Greenways. Thank you for your time in reading my email.

Hi Mayor Gordo and CounciLmember Lyon,
As a long time Pasadena resident, father of a small child, friend and a good neighbor, I want to see All Ages and Abilities greenways built to create safe neighborhood streets for everybody. I want a city that functions and actually delivers on the promises it makes - in this case making our streets safer for everyone includingfamilies and children.

My friends and neighbors have seen too many horrific incidents of traffic violence take place in the city, too many of our neighbors have been killed or been injured by reckless drivers and our outdated poorly designed streets. Lots of people walk and bike in Pasadena and more would but they don't feet safe. It's the responsibility of the city to use and adopt proven safety features/designs to make our streets safer. If other cities can do it, so can we!!!
My family only has one car (this allows us to afford to live in Pasadena w/ it's inflated housing costs). We use an e-cargo-bike to transport our small child around the city - it's out of necessity and my son really loves it! Wilson Ave and El Molino have been our main north south connections and oftentimes we don't feel safe especially when traveling with our child - Largely due to aggressive driving behaviors. The proposed designs will make the streets safer for my family, my friends and my neighbors. I truly look forward to my son growing up in a city that cares about his ability to move freely, safely and independently and I believe the Greenways is a step towards that direction.
Sincerely,
TopherMathers

I am a Pasadena resident who walks, rides, or uses public transport all throughout Pasadena. We NEED more infrastructure to make it safe for everyone. I am literally almost kilted on a daily basis because most roads are made only for car safety.
The four streets planned as Greenways - El Molino, Wilson, Sierra Bonita, and Craig- are the four lowest- volume streets that cross the 210 freeway. That makes them a natural choice for walking and hiking, and essential for our city's hiking network.
We are not fooled by misinformation from anti-safety advocates. City staff always plan for emergency vehicle access in any project. The greenways will allow residents to drive on them, so people can easily reach their homes. And, It is non-sense to think that slowing traffic on a few neighborhood streets will somehow cause traffic problems.
Thankyou,

Hello,
I'm a district 2 resident, JPL employee, PUSD parent, and father of 3 kids here in Pasadena, and want to provide a comment on my fervent support for the construction of greenways throughout the city of Pasadena, especially the four planned along selected 210 crossing streets. Pasadena is a unique community, but similar to the rest of LA, suffers from over reliance on motor vehicles to get around. I think we all yearn for a Pasadena that has fewer cars and more people walking and hiking around the city. These greenways are an excellent step toward contributing to better transportation options throughout the city.
I am in the process of purchasing a cargo bike to be able to cycle my kids around town. In order for this to be a viable option, I need safe routes to ride with the kids. Greenways offer safety to those who choose to not drive, thereby encouraging others to do the same and promoting a quieter, greener community.
I hope you agree that greenways are an excellent investment in ourselves and our children. I implore you to support the contract approval to begin construction of this valuable community asset.
Best regards,
Christopher Matthes

Dear Mayor Gordo and City Councilmembers.
We strongly support the City's Greenway project, particularly enhancements that would make it safer for pedestrians, bicyclists, and motorists along Sierra Bonita Avenue. We have witnessed multiple accidents, from a pedestrian and a dog being hit by a car, a vehicular collision, to a vehicular crash into a family's home. We have also witnessed a few close calls between motorists and folks riding bikes. Personally, we have suffered property damage from vehicles driving too fast on Sierra Bonita Avenue.
Many pedestrians and bicyclists use Sierra Bonita Avenue daily. It connects neighborhoods to Jefferson Park, the Library, preschool and after-school programs, the Metro A Line, and Pasadena City College.
We want to live on a safe street. We would like people to drive slowly past Sierra Bonita Avenue. Building safe greenways will slow down drivers not only on Sierra Bonita Avenue but surrounding residential streets.
General greenway benefits:
• Greenways make streets safer while allowing access for cars and emergency vehicles. Simple traffic calming, like speed bumps with emergency vehicle cut-th roughs, reduce speeding while providing access for everyone.
Thousands of people ride bikes in Pasadena already. But, most people - about 60% - say they would like to ride a bike sometimes, but need safe spaces to do so. More hiking trips frees up parking spaces for drivers, reduces traffic, and makes our city more accessible and vibrant. This has worked in other cities, and it will work here too! Speed cushions with emergency vehicle cut-throughs are a simple, low-cost traffic calming tool. They should be allowed on the Greenways. Please update the Pasadena speed hump policy to allow speed cushions on the Greenways.

The Greenways can't cause traffic problems in the city, because they carry a tiny amount of traffic -just a few percent of north/south travel. Besides the greenways, Pasadena has 12 high-volume north/south streets that carry over 200,000 cars per day across the 210 freeway. Building the greenways will not change any of these 12 high volume streets, and so traffic will still flow freely. For Sierra Bonita Avenue, it already has a "safety" traffic problem. Priority should be on safety, not on the extra few minutes spent getting from place to place. 108/25/2025
ITEM 6
• We are not fooled by misinformation from anti-safety advocates. City staff always plan for emergency vehicle access in any project. The greenways will allow residents to drive on them, so people can easily reach their homes. And, It is non-sense to think that slowing traffic on a few neighborhood streets will somehow cause traffic problems.

I live on Orange Grove east of Alien and I am thankful that Orange Grove was not narrowed to just two lanes.
I think the Craig Ave "Bicycle Greenway" idea is not needed, unnecessary and costly. I see and read that
bicycle ridership is down. I'd like to see a report on real bicycle usage in Pasadena before millions of dollars
are spent on existing streets, intersections changed and blocked, and turns prohibited. Take crazy Union St
going west from Hill. I drive it at least once a week and rarely see bikers. I do see cars trying to park in the
area down the middle of the street and thus stopping thru traffic. Correctly reading the left turn arrows at
Union and El Molino among the five lights is a real challenge. Again, where is a real report on bike usage?
The new stop light coming at Orange Grove and Craig should help slow speeding traffic on OG, but once that
is operable, don't fool around with other Craig unneeded and expensive monkey-business just to keep the
traffic department planners and construction workers busy. By the way, the Craig/OG stop light has taken over 8/25/2025

two years in planning, prep, and construction and is it within budget? So let's see some real reports on usage
of the current bike improved streets before you play games with neighborhoods and streets that are "just fine
and dandy"! Listen to your local residents desires and needs before tearing up their neighborhoods with
seldom used bike lanes that cost millions.

Dear City of Pasadena Leadership,
I'm a native of Pasadena and live near Craig/Paloma. I am OPPOSED to the Bicycle Greenways! Our money should be spent more wisely when improving our streets and sidewalks. Common sense needs to prevail when planning our existing/future streets and Greenways don't fit that description.
Thankyou,

The streets are meant for everyone. They should not be reserved as private roads for a select few. As a driver, I am required to share the road with cyclists who often disregard traffic laws, as well as runners, motorcyclists, scooter riders, skateboarders, vendors, and panhandlers. Yet, somehow, a handful of cyclists are being given priority? If the City truly aims to enhance safety, why not create car-only streets and restrict pedestrians from crossing wherever and whenever they wish? That is as unrealistic as what is being proposed.
There is absolutely no valid reason for the extensive takeover of Craig Ave. It is not a heavily trafficked bicycle route; I can attest to this as I use it for that very reason. Blocking off Craig in any manner discriminates against the majority of us who rely on cars for long-distance travel and family transppj-tatiorL It hinders emergency vehicles trying to navigate through the city, especially during peak hours, putting lives at risk. This route is a favorite among local residents, providing access to major streets, collector roads and shopping areas.
We all support the goal of safer streets. However, using safety as a justification to restrict motor vehicle access is not a genuine safety concern; it is a misguided transportation policy that disguises itself as a safety measure.
Thank you,
Danielle Elliott

Please, please, reject the proposed changes to Craig Avenue. We do not need bike lanes or roundabouts or "road diets". Just safe streets, good sidewalks and healthy street trees. That certainly wouldn't cost $12.5 million of our tax money. Take a look at Cordova and Union. Those streets are not utilized for the reason they were built. Very few bikes are seen and very few pedestrians. Mostly cars parked in odd ways and confusion for drivers.
Respectfully submitted,
Doris Christy

Hello MrMarquez
My name is Heather Lillard and I live at 1 989 East Mountain Street. I object to the Craig Street proposals for road diet and road "furniture." I drive on Union regularly and thankfully that street doesn't have much traffic because the medians/islands are awkward and obstructive and create confusion for parking. I see VERY FEW bikes on Union. I do not subscribe to the theory that "if you build it they will come."They have not come to the Union bikes lanes.
Thankyou,
Heather Lillard

Dear Councilmembers
I am stroncily opposed to the Craig Avenue Bicycle Path and Traffic Redesign.
As Pasadena continues to become more densely populated, we need to make it easier to move around not more difficult!! These dollars can be far better used to repave Pasadena's streets which are deteriorating on a daily basis.

Not everyone in town belongs to a bicycle club! Please listen to the restof the taxpaying citizens for a change!!!
There are many residents who need to drive to take kids to school, get to work, take aging parents to medical appointments, etc.
Let's think about their needs too!!
One only needs to look at the ridiculous chaos on Union to see an example of badly used taxpayer dollars.
Let's make life better not worse for Pasadena motorists.
Please oppose this latest boondoggle on Craig"
Thank you.

Dear Mr. Marquez,
My wife, Tania, and I completely support efforts to make Pasadena streets safer for all - bicyclists, pedestrians and drivers. However, we cannot support the ongoing proposal to make four streets, including Craig Avenue into a Greenway.
We live on Lambert Drive, 8 homes east of Craig. We have lived in this neighborhood for 49 years. We really don't understand why converting Craig into a Greenway to benefit bicyclists makes sense. We travel up and down Craig almost daily and don't see where it is such a problem that both motorists and bicyclists can't share the road.
We are particularly concerned about the proposed roundabouts for several reasons. Roundabouts serve their purpose well in Europe where drivers negotiate them from the time they learn to drive. However, my experience has been that American drivers are still confused when approaching a roundabout. I've seen drivers turn directly left at Glenarm and El Molino without circling around. Besides, Craig Avenue is not a wide or busy street. A roundabout is going to hamper emergency vehicles - especially the hook and ladder truck from Fire Station 32. It would probably have to use a different and perhaps longer route to meet an emergency.
The other thing that bothers us both, knowing that the Greenways have been part of the 2015 Mobility Plan and again studied in 2021, is that there has been very little, if any, public outreach. I've talked to my neighbors on Lambert Drive and Las Lunas and most have no idea that this is being proposed. 8/25/2025
1 Item 6
Finally, we are happy to see the stop light going in on Craig and Orange Grove. However, we are not happy that we won't be able to turn west onto Orange Grove from north Craig. This means that we still have to drive to Oak and turn west from there with a blind curve to the east. Turning at a stop light would be much safer.
We strongly urge you to use common sense when this proposal moves forward and oppose it as we do. In addition to this being completely unnecessary, the $12 million dollar cost can be put to better use.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.

City Council,
I am a resident of Pasadena and I believe we should be working together to create safer streets. Our dangerous roads affect everyone - drivers, passengers, and people who are not in cars.
I urge you to approve this contract.
Thank you,
Blair Miller
District 4 resident
