Dear Councilmember Rivas:

Thank you for the opportunity to serve the City of Pasadena as your representative to the Commission on the Status of Women.

While we shouldn't have to choose between raising our families and raising our voices—yet all too often, we do. Until we normalize doing both, we'll continue losing valuable leadership from parents — especially mothers — right when we need it most.

As you know, the demands of public service are real— and so are the demands of parenting. This season of life is reminding me just how quickly the years with young children pass. I want to be fully present for the little moments — the ones that may not make headlines but matter profoundly.

After deep reflection, I've made the difficult decision to step down as President of the City of Pasadena's Commission on the Status of Women to dedicate more time to my most important role: being a parent.

I look forward to serving our city in unofficial ways and stand committed to helping you find a representative to serve in my place.

Sincerely,
Vanessa
