Dear Chairperson Jones and Council Members Cole, Hampton, and Lyons, I flag a matter for consideration as the Committee and the Council review the proposed budgets for public works and transportation.
The concern: There are a number of bus stop shelters or benches around District 6 (and maybe elsewhere) that remain in locations at what used to be active bus stops, but which are no longer active. .
In other words, no LA Metro or Pasadena Transit bus routes currently serve these former stops, due to route changes over the years. These shelters are "orphans," and some have been for a number of years.
Meanwhile, there are other current bus stops in Pasadena that lack a shelter or bench. Riders are left to stand, and/or wait in the sun (or rain).
I attach an inventory of a few of these "orphan shelters" and stops without shelters and/or benches across the city. There are no doubt more, in every district.
My understanding from LA Metro is that the City owns and/or controls these shelters. I do not see any budget line item related to bus shelters and/or benches. I am asking the City to adoptively reuse existing "orphan" shelters by moving them to new locations.
Can the Committee consider encouraging City Staff to survey locations of "orphan" shelters and determine how these shelters / benches can be moved expeditiously to stops that lack them, to better serve residents?
Thank you for your service.
Respectfully,
P.A. Brown
