supports a volume of programming that natural grass simply cannot sustain without significant closures, maintenance periods, and reductions in field availability.

Converting the field back to grass would create several challenges:
• Reduced access for youth sports programs due to field recovery and maintenance requirements.
• Increased cancellations and disruptions following heavy use or wet weather. • Greater water consumption at a time when Southern California continues to prioritize conservation.
• Fewer available playing hours for families, schools, community organizations, and recreational leagues.
• Additional strain on an already limited inventory of athletic fields throughout Pasadena.

The City's own analysis recognizes that demand for athletic fields already exceeds available capacity and that many organizations are turned away each year due to limited field availability. Reducing playable hours at Villa Parke would only worsen this challenge.

I also appreciate that the proposed replacement turf system incorporates significant advancements over earlier generations, including PFAS-free manufacturing, recyclable components, improved drainage, and organic infill materials designed to reduce environmental concerns while maintaining playability and durability.

Most importantly, I ask that the Committee consider the impact on local children and families. For many young athletes, Villa Parke is where they learn teamwork, discipline, confidence, and community. The field is used daily and remains one of Pasadena's most active recreational spaces.

I respectfully urge the Committee to support the replacement of the existing field with the proposed next-generation artificial turf system and preserve the year-round access that so many Pasadena families rely upon.

Thank you for your time, service, and consideration.

Respectfully,
Chris Medina
