I am disappointed to see that Police Chief Harris has not provided a report on ICE activity within the last month in advance of the meeting as is typical for these types of reports. ICE raids and sightings have been a major concern for many community members for over a year, and ICE activity has also been increasing locally in the past month. Community members have expressed many times that they are concerned about direct and indirect collaboration with PPD, and the Chiefs failure to take the report seriously will further undermine police-community relations. This follows the CPOC meeting last week in which Chief Harris did not have his update (assigned in June) ready and asked for a one month extension.
If Chief Harris is unprepared again next month, I recommend that the Committee substitute A presentation from Grupo Auto Defensa on ICE activity in Pasadena. Volunteer immigrant defense groups like this are doing the most to keep our community safe from ICE A presentation from DeFlock Pasadena (a campaign from Pasadena Privacy) on the concentration of Flock cameras in the same neighborhoods that have been most frequently terrorized by ICE. It can include information on how DHS/ICE/CBP/HSI can use Flock to surveil, track and kidnap people.
