Recommendation to provide additional sport field lighting at Sherwood Park Sports field maintenance concerns at Sherwood Park, Larry Moore Park, and Pioneer Park
Need for additional youth sports spaces

16 City owned and operated sports fields
We will be losing access to 1 lighted field,
Pioneer Park, after March 2027
11 of those are lighted (8 @ BSP)
According to the 2024 National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) standards for outdoor park and recreation facilities, the City would need to add approximately 4 additional fields to adequately meet the recreational needs of the existing population
9 of 11 offer yearround programming
100% indicated a
strong preference for
BSP which has lights
9 of 11 would reserve
an average of 6.25
more hours of play per
week
Last season, user
groups rented field
lights to accommodate
play at unlit Sherwood
