Frequently Asked Questions
Does the electric grid have capacity to support all-electric construction of new homes in CA? What is PG&E doing to improve grid reliability state-wide?  Grid Modernization – including Smart Grids (i.e., automated demand response and distributed energy resource (DER) management, distribution line upgrades, and battery storage.
 Flexible Load Management – Time-of-use pricing, vehicle -to-grid (V2G or PG&E’s V2X) which can turn EVs into storage assets, and heap pump water heaters and other appliances to act as flexible, schedulable loads.
 Distributed Energy Resources – Rooftop solar, microgrids, and community energy storage to provide resilience.
 Other PG&E initiatives
o Federal Loan – PG&E received a $15 billion loan from the federal government to support climate resilience projects and enhance the power grid in California. o Data Center Demand - PG&E is proactively working to serve 10 gigawatts of new electricity demand from data center projects over the next ten years.  Policy & Planning – Title 24, Title 20, SB 100 and the CPUC’s Phase 3B Decision, etc.
