Paso Robles has had an evolving and engaging aesthetic and cultural presence that now is at a new point of consideration and future-focused planning. Having served as a member of the Public Art Committee in Claremont for several years, and having moved to Paso Robles two years ago, it is time to get involved with the community and help discover and support its creative and cultural aspects. Supporting and honoring history while exploring and promoting the creativity and diversity of the current and future population are critical to community development and quality. I have been a professional graphic designer, illustrator, college instructor, and participant in professional and civic committees and boards for decades. The artistic installations and activities in Paso Robles, the Studios on The Park, Libretto, membership in and weekly painting with the art association people have given me a good feel of the community. I am excited for the opportunity to collaborate with neighbors in the continued planning and implementation of cultural and artistic activities, presentations, and installations.

I am passionate about the role that art and culture play in shaping vibrant, connected communities. As an art educator and Visual & Performing Arts Assistant in a public elementary school, I have seen firsthand how access to the arts fosters creativity, critical thinking, and a sense of belonging among students and families. I have experience developing and leading arts programming, building partnerships with volunteers and community members, and advocating for equitable access to arts education.

In addition to my work in education, I bring a background in communication and community engagement through my previous career in marketing and public relations.

This experience has strengthened my ability to collaborate, organize initiatives, and communicate effectively with diverse groups.

I am especially interested in serving on the Art and Culture Board because I value the ways local arts initiatives can reflect and celebrate the unique identity of a community like Paso Robles. I would be honored to contribute my perspective as both an educator and community advocate to support programs, events, and opportunities that make the arts accessible and meaningful for all.

I am so proud of our town of Paso Robles - it is such a beautiful location, with so much wonderful potential for truly becoming a little world class gem. And part of that vision includes a vital local arts program of which we can all be proud. With my lifelong commitment to the arts, I am very well positioned to support that effort.

As a former art critic for major publications such as Art in America and Artforum, I am widely published in the fields of criticism, travel, digital media and fiction, with over 150 essays, reviews and chapters appearing in a wide variety of national and international publications. I have taught Art history at Cal State Northridge, lectured internationally in museums, galleries and art fairs, and was the managing editor of an art & fashion magazine in New York. I even had my own tiny art gallery in Soho.

I am also an artist, and so can see from both sides of the fence what it takes to both make and appreciate a truly good piece of art. I believe great art is possible everywhere.

I don’t think that it’s necessarily the case that it is only in the most rarified of places that masterpieces can be found; indeed there is a lot of excellent work available when we take the time to truly see it. While that is perhaps an unusual position for an art critic to take, it has guided my career for a long time. I genuinely believe in people‘s ability to discern what is beautiful.

Page 21 of 85 ends

Despite the fact that I’m originally from New York City, I also have had experience bringing art proposals to the Central Coast, where I have been living for over 20 years. I have made my home in Paso for the last four years. In 2005, I made an informal proposal in The Tribune for converting what was then the Duke power plant in Morro Bay into a multi arts and culture venue. The city was extremely interested in this idea and they invited me to speak with the city council and explain further my ideas and research on the positive impact of local arts programs on local economies. They published my report as an addendum to what became a much larger project. I also proposed a mural program in Cambria, and have applied for a few grants, and so I have that type of experience as well.

All this is to say that I know about the arts intimately - whether from the perspective of a maker, a promoter or a critic. And I have experience thinking about how the arts can very directly benefit our communities here on the Central Coast and working with a small city board in order to implement positive change through engagement with the arts. I hope you will consider my application with interest as I would really like to bring my expertise to assist what I see as an excellent idea, that is, forming an Arts and Culture Board for Paso Robles.

Tracy Dauterman:

I took elective courses in college in Art History and Performance Art which gave me a foundation for art appreciation and collection. I have worked in various communications based roles where I have been the in-house photographer (at JUSTIN Vineyards & Winery this was one of my primary responsibilities for 3 years), graphic design, and working closely with the brand manager on the Travel Paso account when I was at Solterra Strategies (1.5 years) to determine what imagery would best represent the region and be the most eye catching to consumers. My approach to membership on this board, if selected, would be informed by my experience and background in communications and storytelling.

Art is generous.

Art is a vehicle of connectivity that crosses and transcends bounderies, psychological, physical and emotional.

Art is an encounter with the familiar and a promise of an unfolding world of possibilites. A story that is rewarding at first encounter and a new reading at every turn.

I am excited to apply for a position on the inaugural Arts Advisory Committee for the City of Paso Robles. I bring a background in arts administration, programming, and community engagement, along with a strong interest in the role the arts play in civic identity, economic vitality, and quality of life.

Professionally, I spent nearly five years at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston as Film Operations Manager, where I managed daily programming and coordinated film festivals within a high-volume, mission-driven arts institution. I later served as Assistant Director at the San Luis Obispo Museum of Art, supporting daily operations, strategic initiatives, and public-facing programs.

I recently joined the team at Studios on the Park as Administrative Coordinator, where I engage directly with local artists and support a key cultural and educational hub in downtown Paso Robles. This role is deepening my understanding of the north county arts landscape.

I am particularly interested in supporting policies and initiatives that strengthen public access to the arts, introduce the arts to our children, foster collaboration across organizations, and position Paso Robles as a culturally vibrant destination. I would be honored to contribute to the thoughtful development of the City’s arts and culture strategy.

About a year and a half ago my husband and I uprooted our life, and moved from Los Angeles to Paso Robles. Having grown up in the Valley, I visited the Central Coast often throughout my childhood. We immediately fell in love with living here and wondered what we could offer to the local community that we felt passionate about. We created, Paso Picture Show, an outdoor movie viewing experience screening at different local wineries on the Central Coast. I have had a blast getting to know more people and being more involved in the community. If anything it's made me want to be even more involved.

I would love to be a member on the Arts & Culture Board and feel that I would be an excellent fit, and asset to the town. I'm a Creative through and through, and have a great appreciation for all things art and culture. I've worked in different facets of the Hollywood Entertainment Industry and Performing Arts for over twenty years. I've been a Writer, Actor, Director, Producer, Mentor, Sketch Comedy Performer and Acting Coach. I have produced and led high stakes film projects from start to finish. I'm an engaged team player and bring a lot of experience and fresh ideas to the table. Please consider me as a lead candidate for Board Member to the Arts & Culture Board! High School Attended:

I am applying for the Arts and Culture Advisory Board because arts and culture have been central to my service on the Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee over the past two years. When I first applied to Parks and Rec, arts and culture were housed within that committee, and that work was one of my main reasons for seeking appointment to the committee. Since then, I have had the privilege of serving as Vice Chair and participating in several meaningful projects in Paso Robles, including decisions related to public art installations.

As a member of the Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee, I also voted in support of creating this separate board. While that meant one of the areas I care most about would move elsewhere, I believed it was the right decision for the community. Good governance requires making decisions for the greater good, not for personal preference.

Once I understood that applying for this board was an option, I decided to pursue the opportunity. Since submitting my original application two years ago, I have also become a member of Paso Robles Youth Arts, which has further strengthened my connection to and investment in the arts community.

I remain deeply committed to the role that art plays in a community. Art brings joy, hope, identity, and culture to both residents and visitors. In the nearly five years I have lived in Paso Robles, I hope I have demonstrated my dedication to preserving what makes this community special while also helping it grow in thoughtful and meaningful ways. I would be honored to bring my experience, judgment, and commitment to service to the Arts and Culture Advisory Board for whatever term best serves the city.

Additional ACB Applicant Info – Submitted via Email
Diane Zannotti:

Thank you, Wyatt, for allowing me the opportunity to provide additional information regarding my application.

I have over three years of relevant experience supporting and advancing arts and culture initiatives through volunteer leadership and community engagement. As I mentioned in my application, I currently serve on the Board for the Paso Robles Youth Arts Center, where I contribute to discussions around policy oversight, organizational strategies and programming in support of youth arts education.

I have served for the past two years on the City of Paso Robles Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee. During these past two years, it is this advisory board that participated in the review and recommendation of public art projects, advocating for and supporting integration of visual arts into public spaces that foster and support our community identity.

In my current role with Congressman Panetta, I have supported community engagement efforts in North County that include arts and culture initiatives. This is done primarily over the past three years during the Congressional Art Competition. I have coordinated judges, organized submissions, and assisted with promotion and outreach to educators working with student artists in Paso Robles, Atascadero, San Miguel and Cambria.

Earlier in my career, I taught Kindergarten and 1st grade for two years in Los Angeles and later for a year in Athens, Georgia as a substitute. As part of the curriculum, I incorporated visual arts, storytelling, and creative expression into the classroom instruction.

Personally, through my daughter, I spent over 10 years involved with national level competitive dance providing sustained exposure and support to training and performance.

Additionally I maintain ongoing personal engagement with the arts through my travel. This includes recent trips to the Smithsonian, Louvre, Musee d'Orsay, Tate Modern, MOMA, London National Gallery and many other smaller galleries throughout the world including libraries like the Oodi in Helsinki, Finland learning how art and culture intersect in various ways.

All these experiences as well as future ones continue to shape my perspective on how art and culture intersect with community, education and public spaces in positive ways.

Anne Laddon
Anne has been a professional artist for 40
years, with a background in graphic design,
printmaking and painting. She has designed
and produced hundreds of limited edition
serigraphs, lithographs, and posters. Her
paintings have won numerous awards and
are in collections around the world.

In the mid seventies in Alexandria, Virginia she was one of the founding artists of The Torpedo Factory Art Center where she had a printmaking studio.

In 1984 she moved to California’s Central Coast opening a studio gallery in Cambria where she created limited editions, monotypes, and handmade paper. Laddon continued to show in New York each year at the International Art Expo, as well as in several galleries. In 1990 she began to study oil painting and by the mid nineties was hooked on “plein air painting” which she continues today.

Anne is active in several local arts organizations. In 2007 Laddon founded Studios on the Park, Inc. a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing a creative, educational, and transformational experience to enhance understanding and appreciation of the visual arts. Located at 1130 Pine Steet in downtown Paso Robles, Studios will engage and inspire the San Luis Obispo County community and its visitors with a unique open studio environment, artists working in a variety of media, educational programs for children and adults, as well as quality exhibitions by regional, national and international artists.

Please consider my contribution to the Paso Robles art community through founding Studios on the Park, a 501(c)3 non profit in 2007. We have provided art festivals, childrens art classes, exhibitions, and lectures, are open to the public 7 days a week. I have a BA degree in Art History, have been a professional artist, a graphic designer, and silkscreen printmaker for over 50 years. I was a founding member of the Torpedo Factory Art Center in Virginia in 1972 where I had a studio for over ten years. In 2018 Studios on the Park sponsored the large mural that is on Le Petite Canaille wall on Spring Street. I was instrumental in the design for that mural, working with a Colorado artist to paint it.

Thank you for your consideration.
