TO: Mayor McCord and Members of the City Council
FROM: Ken Irwin, City Manager
BY: Jeff Gregory, Fire Chief
MEETING DATE: January 18, 2022
ITEM NO: 5.5
SUBJECT: Approval of Surplus City Vehicles and/or Equipment/Items FY 2021/2022
RECOMMENDATION
Approve of surplus City vehicles FY 2021/2022.
BACKGROUND
The vehicle listed below is at the end of its service life and is ready for surplus. Pending Council approval, the following vehicle will be sent to Auction, sold, or disposed of, as it has been the City’s standard practice.
Vehicle Description VIN No. License # Mileage
1991 Type I Fire Engine 4S7BT9F02MC0034783008745 358672 17412
ANALYSIS
The 1991 Fire Engine was purchased new by the City of Patterson to become a first out engine for all emergency calls in the city. With this purchase, we were able to retire a 1942 fire engine which is referred to as “Olde #1” from being a third out engine and had the 1968 and 1970 Ford 9000 fire engines as second and third out for large incidents. With the expected arrival of two new Type I engines in September of 2022, the city no longer needs this engine. If the Fire Department keeps this Fire Engine, the city will incur maintenance costs, annual testing requirements and emergency equipment to keep it in service.
FISCAL IMPACT
The revenue received from the surplus will be returned back to its designated budget.
