RECOMMENDATION
Motion to Approve Resolution No.2022-21 for National Public Works Week (NPWW) May 15th - May 21st, 2022.
BACKGROUND
National Public Works Week (NPWW) is a celebration of the many men and women in North America who provide and maintain the infrastructure and services collectively known as public works.
Instituted as a public education campaign by the American Public Works Association (APWA) in 1960, NPWW calls attention to the importance of public works in community life. The Week seeks to enhance the prestige of the often-unsung heroes of our society-the professionals who serve the public good every day with quiet dedication.
National Public Works Week is observed each year during May. This year’s week is May 15 - 21, 2022. Through NPWW and other efforts, APWA seeks to raise the public’s awareness of public works issues and to increase confidence in public works employees who are dedicated to improving the quality of life for present and future generations.
ANALYSIS
Staff will be holding a National Public Works Week celebration at Apricot Valley School this year. During this event, students are able to be learn about the role of public works in their community and providing them with educational materials that bring awareness about recycling, water conservation, stormwater pollution, and other environmental programs. Additionally, information about National Public Works week will be distributed through an electronic platform (for example, City website, Facebook, and other means that are available).
FISCAL IMPACT
Costs include purchasing promotional items for these various environmental programs (FOG, Water Conservation, Recycling, and Stormwater Pollution Prevention). The costs for this item have been budgeted and approved in FY 21/22. No budget impact associated with this item.
