RECOMMENDATION
Motion to Approve Street Name Change from Baldwin Road to Jeremiah Way in Memory of Jeremiah Paul Schali.
BACKGROUND
The City of Patterson recently lost a valuable member of its community and employee and the Public Works Department lost a beloved employee. Jeremiah was hired by the City of Patterson on April 1, 2020 as a Maintenance Worker in the Parks Division. Jeremiah shared a passion for providing public service and he brought a work ethic that was second to none. He maintained three parks and all of the City’s landscaping on Sperry Avenue between Las Palmas Avenue and Baldwin Road. His performance was a clear example for others to follow, but it was his humble and friendly nature that endeared him to all who knew him. Even after extreme medical treatments and procedures left him physically challenged, Jeremiah fought hard and returned to work. His sense of duty brought him back daily until he was no longer physically able to do so.
His drive, character and spirit will always be remembered.
ANALYSIS
Jeremiah contributed greatly to this community and because of his contributions it was determined that the way for this community to honor his memory is by naming a new street after him. The section of street in front of the city’s corporation yard is currently Baldwin Road.
However, with the construction of Baldwin Ranch North subdivision that section of street was going to change to Marble Avenue. Rather than Marble Avenue, staff proposes, “Jeremiah Way” to honor the memory of Jeremiah Schali.
FISCAL IMPACT
There is no significant impact associated with this item. Only costs incurred are the costs for the plaque, street name sign and any labor will be completed by city staff.
